snefroe Posted January 15, 2006 Posted January 15, 2006 thanks! i'll post more of this stuff during the week... Quote
Kikuichimonji Posted January 15, 2006 Posted January 15, 2006 Wow snefroe, those are awfully nice! Now I just have to try and create an "X-pod spaceship" myself :P But first I have to pick up the new X-pods since all the old ones are used for part storage (they're really useful for that too, you know...) hewkii9 Posted January 15, 2006 Posted January 15, 2006 Hi, I'm new here, but I also like x-Pods a lot. My collection is: Auto Pod original Aero Pod original Wild Pod Robo Pod original Aqua Pod. What's your collection? Quote
sam89 Posted January 15, 2006 Posted January 15, 2006 I've got all the X-Pods released so far, including the black one :-D Quote
snefroe Posted January 15, 2006 Posted January 15, 2006 i'm sort of obsessed with these pods... whenever i see them in the shops, i just got to buy one or more... it's even worse for the moment, because they're selling the old ones for 2 Quote
KimT Posted January 15, 2006 Author Posted January 15, 2006 Hi, I'm new here, but I also like x-Pods a lot. My collection is:Auto Pod original Aero Pod original Wild Pod Robo Pod original Aqua Pod. What's your collection? Erhh - let me see. I've got doubles of the blue/red/yellow/black/green 1st year pods Then one of each from 2nd year and finally one of each from 2006 (3rd year) and still more to come.... that makes a total of 18 - wow that many :oD and also I've got the X-Pod Play Off gameboard and rules... BTW You can download Play Off! and xtras on lego.com KimT Pod On!! ;) Quote
Kikuichimonji Posted January 15, 2006 Posted January 15, 2006 All 4 first wave X-pods (got them pretty cheap, less then 2 euros), and that's all. For some weird reason, wave 2 never made it to Europe. I'll definitely get the new ones though. Quote
hewkii9 Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 Wow, some people here have lots. :P BTW, I think it was intentional that wave 2 wasn't sent to Europe. I can't think why though... Quote
snefroe Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 i took this photo a while back just before the start of a "open day" at a Pod Base of star Command. it shows a typical flight of four, yes, four! the one to the left has an active camouflage device and the untrained ground crews couldn't find it to switch it off... however, it gives me the opportunity to show you all types of undercarriages pods use. the platform that carries the camouflaged pod is an anti-gravitational platform that allows groundgrews to transport pods without the fuss of having to use cars, trucks, pod engines,... you can move them the way you move a cart in a supermarket, except, there are no wheels, only four anti-gravity poles (lego part http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=2654) ; once it's moved to its position, you can shut them down... These platforms were designed to use in huge space ships. it's always a very difficult thing to move heavy object from one place to another, but mostly to get them exactly where they're supposed to be. thry moving a wardrobe from a wall of the room to any other wall of the room. you'll find getting it exactly against the wall to be far more difficult than to move it across the room. that's why platforms have been awarded "Maintenance tool of the year 2492". i already mentioned the other two: one is the wheeled undercarriage. this one is heavier than the second, classic undercarriage; pods usually don't drive around like a car. they don't have a steering wheel, a pilot is never really a driver. he uses the engines like many pilots do when they're taxiing on a tarmac: they increase or decrease power of either one of the engines, causing it to turn. it's not a ferrari either, even tho they have the same color... KimT Posted January 19, 2006 Author Posted January 19, 2006 Great work - Sne. I really like the platforms :oD KimT Quote
snefroe Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 a typical flight of four has two medium attack pods, like the one on this photo. on the left side there's a radar control giudance system and several hardpoint for laser granates. They're air to ground missiles, but instead of carrying conventional ammo, it has an energy capsule that explodes when it his the target. it's an explosion of pure energy. the radar control system directs the thing to its target. Usually a pod has about four of them and it's mainly used to destroy armored vehicles, bunkers,... the pod carries medium laser cannons on the right side. they're easy to use and don't require too much energy, even tho rather primitive... Still, it provides the pod with enough fire power, and it doesn't compromise the ship's stability... Quote
snefroe Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 the other two ships have different jobs to do, depending on the payload they're carrying. One usually carries heavy weaponry, the other serves as a "wild weasel-wizzard" platform. this pod has a bit of both, but usually carries two guns, like the one he has on his right arm. it's a heavy laser cannon, the one you use against very well protected structures or vehicles. However, you can replace these by the brown missile launcher or the small dark gray rocket launcher. both aren't ideal weapons tho. the rocket launcher has a very limited capability and the large missile launcher is waaay too heavy for a small pod. i think they only tested the weapon once, but i don't think it's in service. Besides, the laser cannons are attached to mobile arms, they allow you to hit targets where ever you see them. needless to say, these arms follow the pilot's irises, so they're pretty fast... oh yes... there are two other types of guns, but you can only see them in the first photo. they're all the way to the left. the four-barrelled gun is pretty good against (light) infantry troops, the other is some kind electronic weapon. it's crap, really. the pilots even think the company payed the generals to get it into service... the other devices are part of the wild weasel-wizzard warfare. In other words, this equipement is used to search and detect all sorts of electronic, magnetic,... devices the enemy uses to search and destroy the pods. Once the systems have detected a radar, for instance, it will download its location into the radar control guidance systems of the other pods. they will then destroy the radar. that's what this pod is carrying on his left arm. sure it's heavy, but it's a vital part of the pod's defences. the other containers you see on the ground are part of the "wizzard-job": their only job is to jam all sensors, frequencies, transmittors,... of the ennemy. they're basically for shutting down the ennemy's communication... oh the cylindrical thing is a device that allows the pod to see things thru myst, clouds,... stuff like that. this particular pod (88-488805; 88-805) has four engines instead of two. it's a bit like a train having two locomotives, they combine their power in order to increase capability. they could have chosen a bigger engine as well, i suppose... KimT Posted January 19, 2006 Author Posted January 19, 2006 [stunned] :o Erhm.... You've got a vivid imagination dear Sne. I can't wait for pics of the black pod *wub* One question though - where does the fuel go? And all your writing got me dizzy - so this might have been answered, but what is the engine on these sweethearts? KimT Quote
snefroe Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 oh yes... well i still have to write that down in an eb post... but you haven't been paying attention, have you? :P the engines run on electricity, feeded by internal batteries... the batteries will be recharged when the pod isn't active... the engines are on the outside (those sections with the white rotors). the idea is that they operate like a rotor on a small sub. the next photo shows the batteries. they are these grey-yellow tanks underneath the cockpit... there are two versions of the cockpit, the left one is the early version, the middle one is the modern version. i'll explain later when i found the chapter of the cockpit, my favourite... for some reason :$ Quote
KimT Posted January 19, 2006 Author Posted January 19, 2006 Thanks for clearing that question :) Is that a fire extinguisher? :oD Nice pics of the inside of the pods KimT Quote
snefroe Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 Thanks for clearing that question :) Is that a fire extinguisher? :oD Nice pics of the inside of the podsKimT not on the early version. on the early version it's the emergency handle to blow up the side door mechanism ... you remember the sory on the third prototype? it crashed, and the pilot died. it happened because the emergency procedures were far from good. one of the problems was a lack of a fire extinguisher, to cut a long story short, they added one and they changed the interior at the same time... hewkii9 Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 Wow, you must put a lot of work into those, those are really cool. KUTGW! Quote
hewkii9 Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 Lol, right. ~~~REVIEW~~~ Dino Pod 55 pcs Thw Dino Pod is the new green X-Pod, and one of the best in my opinion. The main model, a Tyrannosaur by the looks of it, is a fun build, but a little bit too stringy. The other model, a monoceratops, is better looking, but less fun to play with. I give it a 8/10. Quote
TheBlackDog Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 My Collection: -Arachno Pod -Robo Pod Two sets. How pathetic. Quote
KimT Posted February 13, 2006 Author Posted February 13, 2006 Not pathetic - it's a start and we all started at some point  KimT Quote
snefroe Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 Not pathetic - it's a start and we all started at some point  KimT my plan to buy a couple every week has failed, i'm afraid to say. they're all gone! can't find a shop with pods anymore... it seems to me that lego really has a problem with their production capacity... Jipay Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 Considering the extreme seasonality on the toy market, I wouldn't be at the seat of the production planner of TLC right now. Headaches must be consequent... Quote
hewkii9 Posted February 18, 2006 Posted February 18, 2006 Well, at least the Christmas season is over, although now there's probably a bit of bulk extra. And TBD, I got an Aero pod and only had it for two months until I got another. Everyone had to start somewhere. Quote
snefroe Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 just a few green pods at the repair shop... brickshelf Quote
