Cypr-21 Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 Tribute to Paul Boratko : Fantastic model, I think I'll write a french review about it on SeTechnic. Quote
Kronos Posted January 26, 2012 Author Posted January 26, 2012 I am eagerly awaiting availability of the new parts. I called Lego direct earlier last week and the new parts will be available Jan. 31st. I'll be placing an order that day for sure. Quote
Blakbird Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 Tribute to Paul Boratko : Looks like you changed the chassis to black. Quote
Cypr-21 Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Looks like you changed the chassis to black. Yes, because I haven't all parts in light bluish grey. I'm curently missing some red parts, but I'll receive the parts in few time. I really appreciate the building instructions, they are very understandable, and much more interesting than instructions from TLG. Very good job Quote
Paul Boratko Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Cypr-21, Eric discovered a few slight errors when building last night including one with the rear hatch where the spoiler attaches to... The Instructions are calling for (four) 4L thin liftarms in the rear and they should be (four 3L) thin liftarms... With the 4L liftarms, the rear will not close, which looks like you may have done on your build... I had sent several early instructions out for people to test and report any errors to me, but unfortunately no one seemed to notice them... Eric is working on fixing these issues and will upload the fixed instructions... I am also getting a link to your website set up at my site, but I am having some strange problems getting pictures to upload... When you look at the side view of the car, the rear hatch should line up with rear back panel like this: Quote
Thelonious monk Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Since I have so many yellow parts lying around I think I might try a different color combination, like yellow panels on a black frame. I'm curious what that would look like. But first things first, am building the model in red now. thanks again Paul for designing such an awesome looking car! Quote
Paul Boratko Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 The new Instruction and part files are up for everyone who has previously downloaded them... Just use the same information as before to access them and replace your old ones... This should be the final update for them... Quote
DLuders Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Thanks Paul & Eric for refining this masterpiece! Your worldwide fans appreciate it! Quote
jorgeopesi Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 From my point of view this instructions will show people how to build much and better supercar MOCs. I hope we will see much more supercars this year, thank you crowkillers. Quote
Meatman Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 (edited) Thanks for the update Paul. I got the revised instructions this morning. I have to admit, I didn't even notice the errors. I didn't build the rear though. Edited January 27, 2012 by Meatman Quote
Blakbird Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 For those who want to know what it would look like in other colors, see below. No guarantee any of these parts exist though. Quote
Meatman Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 For those who want to know what it would look like in other colors, see below. No guarantee any of these parts exist though. I'd say that about 95 percent of those colored parts do not exist. Wish they did though. Agree, the blue one looks the best. I also think the Red version of the car looks much much better with the chassis in black. That is the color that I built it in. I am also building the car in Red and going to make the spoiler black. technicmad Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 I have updated the parts lists on Rebrickable. Quote
Meatman Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 (edited) Finished my copy of Paul's amazing Vampire GT! I changed a few colors in various places like having a black rear spoiler, the seat colors, the exhaust tips, obviously I do not have any custom chromed wheels, but I have decided to use Paul's supplier and send some away because they do look so much better than the standard Lego ones. I think that I'll write a small review on what I think of this new model from the one known as "crowkillers" This is my first review, so please don't be too critical. The build begins with everyone's favorite part, the chassis. This model has a very unique fresh chassis unlike any car that I have ever built before because of the new gearbox that Paul designed along with the flawless and very simple switch that alters the car to have all wheel drive or just rear wheel drive. This transmission works much much better than the old 5 speed+R gearboxes that we have come accustomed to in previous models from Lego and it only takes up 6 studs between the seats which is very compact and perfect for a model of this scale and the gearing is built into the bottom of the chassis. In my honest opinion, if Lego decides to bring out another Supercar in the future, they should borrow this design because it really does work extremely well. The power plant is a rear mounted V10 engine. The steering also works very smooth with both the H.O.G. and the wheel in the car. I did notice that due to how the suspension is setup that the hub arm doesn't steer quite as far to make as tight of a circle as it normally would without this type of suspension, but is hardy noticeable and like I said works very smoothly. The suspension is also a marvel the way that it is designed and is built into a very sturdy chassis. I think Paul mentioned somewhere that he used a similar setup before. This type of suspension also works well considering that there are over 1,900 parts in this model. It actually doesn't feel heavy for containing that amount of pieces, but then again, most of the parts that make up the count are very small ones. Building the body on this car took me longer to do than building the chassis. There are A LOT of parts in it, but without all of those parts, the model wouldn't look this good. It is one thing to gawk at the pictures, but to actually see this model in front of you and gaze at it's beauty is another. There are numerous techniques used to make up the angles in this model that I would have never thought of and they all are done appropriately as nothing is forced or bent in odds ways to make parts fit. The doors of this car are AWESOME. Paul did an outstanding job creating the angles to perfectly fit and the simple mechanism that opens them is also done perfectly. You open up the rear bonnet and simply turn a small gear clockwise to open and counter clockwise to close and since he used worm gears to open and close each door, they stay exactly where you want them. Now for some Pro's and Con's Pro's Outstanding Drive train. Beautiful Appearance. Smooth Steering. Suspension Works Great. Doors Open and Close Magnificently. Instructions are well worth $12. Con's Black Version has parts that are Rare and near impossible to find. Some parts of the instructions are confusing especially if you are a novice to Lego Technic mostly due to the "Where in the heck does this part go?" factor. The rear end looks good, but not so good when comparing to how good the front looks. Build Time: 9 to 12 hours if you have the parts on hand The model is a Great display piece, especially with the doors open. Overall, I would give the model a healthy 9.25/10 Edited January 29, 2012 by Meatman Quote
Paul Boratko Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 (edited) Wow... Thanks for the review...! I certainly never expected anyone to review anything that I ever built... Your model looks very cool with the colors and everything looks correct.. Good Job... That is the beauty of having instructions where as everyone can create something similar, and yet still alter it to their own desires and incorporate their own ideas... I think I like the Black spoiler on the Red car better than the Red one... Edited January 28, 2012 by Paul Boratko Quote
Meatman Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 (edited) You're welcome Paul. I was more than happy to give it a review as I felt this model is your best outing to date and deserved to have an advanced form of critique in a full review. It is truly a fantastic model and I would encourage anyone to give this model a try especially if they love to build cars because you did some really awesome unique things with this new model that could inspire both advanced and new builders. bmollema Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 (edited) Finally had some time to build this creation, very nice and clear instructions. Could not finish the chairs (ordered specific parts but not in..) Thanks for creating this design Paul and hope to see more....... Edited April 18, 2012 by bmollema Quote
Meatman Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Looks like everyone is doing the red model with the Black spoiler. Quote
craigey Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 Looks like everyone is doing the red model with the Black spoiler. I'd prefer to do the black one, but the total cost for parts is a couple of hundred pounds (when I checked on bricklink), so it might have to wait for a bit. Quote
Paul Boratko Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 (edited) Well, I am going to offer the first modification to this model which is something that I didn't really consider because everything seemed to work so smoothly, but I did a simple redesign on the steering gear rack assembly, replaced a 7L liftarm with a 9L liftarm and flipped the Steering Hubs upside down which in turn resulted in a slightly tighter steering radius than before and also keeps the steering gear rack slightly more uniform resulting in the steering working a little more fluid... I also Finally got my Custom Blood Red Chromed Wheels for the model today... They actually do look much better when you see them in person than they do in the pictures... Blakbird can confirm this in a few days... Also tried out the New Gold Rims on the Red Model... Edited February 21, 2012 by Paul Boratko Quote
xikin Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 The changes would be Black in the instructions on page 26, step 12? Quote
Paul Boratko Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 (edited) The changes would be Black in the instructions on page 26, step 12? Yes, that would be where this modification would take place... It isn't really a "change" it is more of an upgrade... It works fine the way it is, but performing this simple alteration makes the steering work just a bit better... Just like any Lego set or Model, there are always ways to improve things as time progresses... Edited February 21, 2012 by Paul Boratko Quote
captainmib Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Red wheels are looking awesome! Such a shame you really need to order something like this yourself, they don't come standard from lego. Otherwise, not every vehicle could use red rims, so only if you own a few sets this is possible Nice addittion to your model though keep up the sweet work Quote
Meatman Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Wow, those Red wheels look really cool I'll have to try that Modification on the steering. Hope you didn't do this Mod because of my criticism of the steering in the mini review . Your steering does work very well already and it is a great design. By the way, what is that model in your avatar? Is that a new model? I don't see it at your website. The Gold wheels also look very nice with the Red! Would you happen to have any extra that you would be willing to part with? Quote
