AussieJimbo Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 (edited) The new City Harbour 4645 is a nice set but I was a bit disappointed that the sea and the roadway were at the same level. I knew I wanted to raise it up a bit and an impulse buy of 60 1x1x5 reddish-brown bricks in a recent bricklink order gave me the perfect raw materials. I also picked up quite a few 2x16 black plates which were useful in building the support structure for the baseplates that make up the basic wharf from the original set. There are still a few rough edges but I'm pretty pleased with the outcome so far. I'm looking forward to building a bigger port layout when I can get my hands on some more pieces. You can see some initial structures behind the wharf (a sea wall and a simple timber crib railway trestle). Here are a few quick photos. Larger Larger Larger Comments and suggestions appreciated. Section8 Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 Very nice work. You definitely made that set more realistic. Are you planning on integrating it into a larger city? I'd like to see how that looks. Quote
AussieJimbo Posted November 24, 2011 Author Posted November 24, 2011 Thanks Section8. Eventually I want to integrate it into a city but I don't really have the space for that at the moment. :classic: Quote
lightningtiger Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 Perfect 'AJ', personally I'll make a wooden mount to sit the base plates on and a plastic tray to fill with water. But I do like the pier posts....excellent modifying 'AJ' and Brick On ! Quote
AussieJimbo Posted November 24, 2011 Author Posted November 24, 2011 Cheers, mate. Glad you like it. I've been wondering about real water options. I've got enough height in the wharf for an inch or so of water. :classic: Quote
Kryne Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 I like it, looks quite realistic. But i also will be going a real water solution later on when i get all mine setup Quote
meyerc13 Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 I think it looks really good, much better than the original layout. My kids are getting this set, the marina, and the fireboat for Christmas, so I'm going to have to figure out how to integrate those sets into their existing City. This looks great, but might be hard to do on our current tables. Quote
Dr Rod Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 Cheers, mate. Glad you like it. I've been wondering about real water options. I've got enough height in the wharf for an inch or so of water. :classic: But you couldn't have a pure "Lego" MOC with water... unless you went to Billund and stole some from the factory tap Dr Rod Quote
AussieJimbo Posted November 24, 2011 Author Posted November 24, 2011 OK, I'll have a six pack of Heineken brick bottles full of genuine Lego water please. http://inhabitat.com/heineken-wobo-the-brick-that-holds-beer/ Cheers LegoSjaak, meyerc13 & Kryne. :classic: Quote
roamingstop Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 OK, I'll have a six pack of Heineken brick bottles full of genuine Lego water please. Last time I checked; the water flowed as hundreds of thousends small transparent 1x1 tiles and round bricks; a few cheese slopes where the calcium broke off inside. Quote
HighFlyer Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 (edited) This looks much better than the original set. Great work Edited November 24, 2011 by HighFlyer Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 Fantastic work! I like to see elevated docks at the same level of the ship's deck ...nice detail! Quote
Jay Sathe Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 Great job. This is how the set should have been released. Quote
dr_spock Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 Good work. Looks great with the wooden pillars. Quote
