Sandy Posted February 21, 2012 Author Posted February 21, 2012 Results of Round One of the Succubus Battle: >Cinna vs. Will-o'-the-Wisp A - Special Damage Thormanil vs. Will-o'-the-Wisp D - Shield (Frenzy) >Thothwick (Shuriken) vs. Will-o'-the-Wisp B - Shield (Mug) >Bartholomew vs. Succubus - Aim >Hoptep vs. Will-o'-the-Wisp C - Critical Hit The battle against the demon that Baba summoned begins. Immediately the first Will-o'-the-Wisp self-explodes, dividing it's remaining 42 health by damaging all heroes by 5 points, except Cinna who is protected from fire altogether and Thormanil who is protected by his armor so that he only receives 2 damage, and restoring 5 health to the succubus and 4 health to the other wisps. Thormanil then goes into a frenzy, causing 22 damage to all enemies. Thothwick then uses his shuriken to mug the second Will-o'-the-Wisp, knocking it out and receiving 20 gold, equal to its remaining health. Bartholomew aims at the Succubus and deals 5 damage. Hoptet gets a critical hit on the third wisp, taking it out as well. Only two enemies remain after a successful round. Enemies: Will-o´-the-Wisp D Type: Fiery Level: 7 Health: 20/42 Special: Self-Explode – Depletes the remaining health to cause fire-elemental damage to all opponents and restore health to all other allies by dividing the value of the sacrificed health equally. Thothwick gets a good hit on the demon, dealing 27 damage. So does Bartholomew, whose arrow also causes 27 damage. Hoptet's strike depletes the Succubus' health by 21 more points. Thothwick then mugs the Succubus for 35 damage and an equal amount of gold. Bartholomew then ends the battle with a swift arrow. The Succubus bursts into flames and disappears howling back to where she was summoned from. THE BATTLE IS VICTORIOUS! All party members gain half of a level. Demonic Dust - Unholy ash left behind by a banished demon. Phoenix Essence – Revives a fallen ally with full health during a battle. The heroes were sweating heavily after the fiery battle in the dense bog, but now they had collected all the ingredients for the soul-restoring recipe - except the water from Danab's Fountain. Only one enemy was standing on their way anymore, but from what they had seen and heard, this wyvern was no walk in the park. The party had to be well-prepared in order to beat the drake. There was also the undecided situation with Bluto Ziegfried. The party had been presented with two choices: save the boy by making him undead, or let Baba cure him at the cost of leaving him behind to this swamp. If they would not choose, the boy would be dead within days. What is the party's next course of action?
Brickdoctor Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Hurrah! We are victorious! Before we face the Wyvern, I will drink one of my bottles of Mead.
Professor Flitwick Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 (edited) [Thothwick and I have said our piece. He should be left alive and well here; the Ziegfrieds magic, not to mention their vast resources and alliances (e.g the Almagesta and her private army), will be more than a match for this old hag. To make sure we're all going to be okay in the up-and-coming fight, I shall heal Bartholomew and Thothwick] "I'll also take some Nostrum, and put some venom on my Shuriken, for the upcoming battle." Edited February 21, 2012 by Professor Flitwick
Darkdragon Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Cinna stores the Demonic dust and hands the Pheonix Essense to Thormanil. She turns back to the bog witch. "We will entrust Bluto into your care. I don't think the life of a zombie is something I can force on the poor boy when you give us such a much more pleasant option. Do you happen to have any supplies to sell, such as to gain back ether? One last question, is there any more information you can give us about the Wyvern so that we may defeat him?"
Brickdoctor Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 I whisper to the party, make sure Bluto gets his weapons back, in case he needs to fight his way to escape.
Darkdragon Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 "If you'd be so kind, Hoptet, to leave Bluto's weapons with him please."

One last question, is there any more information you can give us about the Wyvern so that we may defeat him?" The party makes the decision to leave Bluto at Baba's care with heavy hearts. Hoptet carries the unconscious boy to the hut and lays all his old equipment next to him. A wide grin spreads on the witch's thin lips. "You have made the right decision. Now all you have to do is to destroy that pesky wyvern and purify the fountain so that I can use the water to remove the boy's fever. Remember, you have only a few days before the boy passes away." The party slowly picks up Baba's treachery. Their faces turn red with anger and shock. The means to heal the boy had been under their noses this whole time! "Why the long faces? I kept my end of the bargain, now I expect you to do yours. Do not worry, I will feed the boy some herbal infusions that will ease his symptoms until you finish your task." Thormanil lets out a roar, draws his axes and rushes towards the witch, but an invisible barrier sends him flailing on his back. "Now behave, or I will stop being cooperative. The boy will stay with me, but it is up to you if he lives or dies. You should not even try to turn your blades against me. I usually do not get involved in the matter of mortals, but if a mosquito stings me enough times I will swat it, make no doubt about it. You might all be mere mosquitos to me, but even my patience has limits." The heroes stare incredulously at the ruthless owl-eyed witch. Could the old hag really be as mighty as she claims? Even immortal?! "Now go, face that wyvern but beware its wings and its lethally poisonous breath. Oh, let me get you a map of this bog to ease your navigation. I believe we are currently situated on the north-eastern corner of Danab's Fountain. You can find the wyvern on the southern edge of the pond." Feeling helpless against the witch, the party must succumb to the consequences of their choice.
Darkdragon Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 "Well there's nothing we can do here. If everyone is ready, let's go take care of the beast."
swils Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Grumbling, Thormanil turns to the party "Seems we've not got a choice now... a-hunting we shall go? It's just an overglorified bird, can't be that bad, right?"
Darkdragon Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Cinna accepts the map and leads the party toward the area the Wyvern is suspected to be.
Sandy Posted February 25, 2012 Author Posted February 25, 2012 With a tingling sensation of excitement, the party made their way to the Danab's Fountain. The stagnant water in the pond stenched horribly. As the heroes came to the source of the fountain - the carved head of the goddess Mother Danab - they heard the same shriek above them that they had heard before. Bracing themselves for the hardest battle they had yet faced, the party drew their weapons, knowing all too well that if they faltered at this last threshold, all their hard work would be in vain. swils Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 His axes crackling and sparking, Thormanil steps to the front row. The awful stench makes him gag, and he briefly ponders the usefulness of a headwrap... "I wonder if this thing'll smell even worse when it's dead?!" Thormanil will attack the Wyvern from the front row.
