  1. 1. How do you feel about the current direction of the SW minifigs?

    • The more details, the better!
    • I like detailing but only up to a certain point
    • Oldie -lovers: simple-looking but has that classic LEGO feel
    • I really don't care - as long as we keep getting new minifigs

What do you all think? Could 'Stephanie' hold any relevance to the future of Star Wars Minifigs?

I think you already no the answer to that question. :hmpf:

Comparing the new Friends minifigs to standard System scale minifigs is like comparing apples and oranges. And there have been a few lines in the past with these larger minifigs (I think Technic had large minifigs for a brief period and there was another girl line with large figs in the early or mid 90s I think?) and they never effected any other line that used the standard minifig. So unless something REALLY drastic happens or the market radically changes, we won't be seeing any Star Wars sets with this scale of minifig.

Also, if they did suddenly switch Star Wars to this larger size, all sets would have to be double in size and thus double the price tag and I think most of us are already feeling financially strained as it is.

So yeah, this new Friends scale figure won't have an effect on Star Wars, or any other System line for that matter.

EDIT: I just actually read the review of the set that picture is from and didn't realize how close in size this new scale is compared to the standard minifig (only one LEGO head taller). When I was just looking at the picture I made a guess that it would be double the size, but was wrong on that. Oops! Still, I don't think it'll ever effect lines that use the standard minifig.

To what extent, then.

I'll bite. I'd say the next development on figures would be her stub nose. I want to say the legs, but the holes on the back are just too crucial.

The minifig's design is iconic. I seriously doubt that we'd see any changes to the basic mold of head, torso, and legs in the near future. That hair and the print, quite possible, but not anything else.

But we already have unique heads, like Bossk and Ackbar. We have figures like Chewbacca and the Ewoks donning head-torso additions. While neither of these additions are new, they are becoming more common.

Unlike Bossk, Ackbar, Chewie, and the Ewoks, the Friends figure in question is clearly a human, just like the basic minifig.

Yoda: He is too big! He is meant to be knee height or something, but he is as big as a child.

Obi-Wan: He is too ginger, I really do not think he is that ginger.

I will add more(not too many hopefully), but I am quite tired now.

General grievous is out of proportion and all round bad, I haven't really seen the CW version but judging by the other CW figs, I am sure it's not that good.

Ewoks = yoda

I don't think little Ani should have the big hair piece.

The new Qui gon face looks less Qui gon than the old Qui gon face.

On the topic of Yoda, there's really nothing that can be done with making some kind of new mould overall for figures, which I for one hope LEGO doesn't do. Minifigures have standardized proportions, and that's fine by me. Of course Chewie should be considerably taller than Han, Luke, and Leia, Yoda should be really short, R2 shouldn't be so big… but that's how it is. I really don't see it as a problem.

On Obi-Wan, I completely agree (and have said as much in one, if not more, reviews). Obi-Wan in the films has brown hair, period. It may look lighter in some shots, but it's not at all LEGO's dark orange. For some reason, the SW people themselves think Obi's hair is orange, as evidenced in both CW shows. But still, I think regular reddish-brown is the right color for Obi-Wan.

Thinking of two complaints wore you out?

Minifigs come in two sizes, child and adult. Anything else would require a new mold and that would get expensive.

If you don't like the hair color, replace it with different hair.

Don't forget the "tall" legs they made for Woody - which I would actually dig seeing used more, especially for someone like Chewy.

Right, but Chewie is built out evenly, while the long legs make the figs look skinny.

It's not quite that easy when he has a bright orange beard printed on his face.

Is there no other line with a head that looks like Episode III Obi-Wan? Qui-Gon comes pretty close.

Why start a thread when you can't be bothered?

Lego has made around 300 SW minifigures so far. Out of all of them you managed to find 2?

Sorry to sound so harsh but please make an effort.

And that's not all! Artoo's proportions are all wrong! Vader needs a neckpiece! Luke and other pilots need headsets as well as chin straps! Biker scouts need more printing and a backpack! Super battle droids and droidekas are too big! Boba Fett needs a firing jetpack!

In all seriousness, I'm not sure whether we need a separate thread for griping about minifigure accuracy. The original post doesn't seem particularly inspiring.

About 285 more Star Wars minifigs to go.

Really? Accuracy in LEGO is never going to be 100% correct. Gotta learn to live with it. Minifigs in general aren't anywhere near real...but I won't get into that here.
