  1. 1. How do you feel about the current direction of the SW minifigs?

    • The more details, the better!
    • I like detailing but only up to a certain point
    • Oldie -lovers: simple-looking but has that classic LEGO feel
    • I really don't care - as long as we keep getting new minifigs

I wish they would build the turntable base

into Artoo's body so his head could swivel. :classic:

I don't know why they haven't done that yet!

Probably because with that piece, it would look stupid and make him have a square neck. They porbably could, but as I saw on some Lego video, each new mold cost over $1,000,000 dollars.

They could make it round.

Well, obviously it wouldn't be square.

I'm talking about modifying Artoo's body so the top piece

3679.gif can snap into it.

When you look at some of the obscure molds they've made for minifigs, I would think something like this for astromech droids would be money well spent, considering they come out with tons of them.

Considering how widely used that particular piece is, I would prefer that they leave it. (After all, it is far too large...) A swiveling dome can be achieved quite easily.

I have seen this before, the result is nice swivel but to hack the head like that with the not so perfect finish on the edge doesn't appeal to me

Minifigs will continue to evolve. However I think the 2012 models represent the maximum amount of detailing I would like. The new sandtroopers and Death Star troopers are frikkin awesome, but I think more detaling would be crazy - unless they make the standard minifig mold more detailed - and that I wouldn't like! :)

This is a interesting topic, and I have not yet made up my mind about this completely. But I know this. I've been really looking forward to the new 2012 wave, those Sandtroopers for example. After finally building the Escape Pod 9490 today, I looked at those awesome troopers, yet I was not pleased. I put them next to my older army of stormies and realized I like them a lot better. The detailing was just a bit too much on the Sandtroopers.

I agree with all you saying that the best minifigs came from the period about 2006-2009. Minifigs was the first that really got me into Lego Star Wars. The detailing on the newest wave of figs is a bit too much (especially the faces, they’re just not Lego anymore), as if the figs was going away from Lego and becoming detailed action-figures. The best thing about the minifigs is the combination of Lego and Star Wars, and I do think I prefer when the best of two worlds is equally combined and obvious.

And yes, the minifigs will continue to evolve - but in what direction?
