swils Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 Well, I parted out the X-wing. First shop I tried on Bricklink had 60 of 67 unique parts. But the price came to well over $50. Shocked. Tried a few more stores. Eventually I found 66 of 67 parts across two stores. Before shipping, looks like it'll cost just shy of $25 for the X-wing. Would be a lot cheaper if I had my collection up here, as I know I have a lot of the more common parts, but I won't be seeing that until.. well.. not quite sure when. So purely BL it is! Unfortunately, the store with 50/67 has a policy where the average cost per lot must be $0.65, and right now, it comes to about half that. I'll see what I can do about that. Also, order wouldn't be processed til 28th, so I'd be awhile getting it together, but hey, patience, eh? Quick question, though. This part: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=4274 came up on the XML from LDD Manager. I've looked through the model in LDD and I, at least, can't find it in there (especially not in that unique color). Am I missing something, or did it just weasel itself in? Quote

By the way, the front half should be stable, but I'm not sure about the back half, so I'm not sure how swooshable or easily buildable it'll be. Quote

And I'm going over the model in a bit more detail now, seems, at least, like it'll be just fine for sitting on a shelf. Might have to push the screwdrivers in a bit on the back. It'll be a fairly fragile model, for sure, but should do fine once I get past the "Urghghh why won't these parts just stay together" phase of building Quote

LDD's LE Mode applies red as the default color for parts, so I could have missed coloring one. It's probably safe to say that any half-pins in that model should be Grey (BL's Light Grey) or Medium Stone Grey (Light Bluish Grey). Stabilize your rear deflectors. Watch for Day 20. It's coming in! Midi-scale TIE/ln fighter at two-ten. I'm not sure about the the tubing and bars used for the edges, but it was the only thing thin enough. I think it'll look better if it were a physical build. (those 4L bars, for example, could be bent inwards, illegally stressing the clip holding them to obtain a better transition between them and the flex tubing pieces) I also tried to find a solution to that 3-wide-core Lowell sphere, but everything else looks too gappy. The TIE/ln starfighter or TIE/line, simply known as the TIE Fighter, was the standard Imperial starfighter seen in massive numbers throughout most of the Galactic Civil War and onward. Fallenangel Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 (edited) Having examined this MIDI TIE/ln for a good fifteen now twenty-five minutes or so, I will say that it's... pure win! Seriously, I love this. Proportions, technique, the Technic drive ring – all of it just oozes LEGO TIE awesomeness. Everything just clicks together really well at this size (no pun intended ). Easily one of the best to be produced in this groundbreaking project. The only tiny thing I would change is the Technic bush used in the pylons – it needs fins. Unfortunately, the only other piece I can think of that would work is this with most of the teeth shaved off – though I wouldn't bat an eye going through with that modification if it meant making this sweet model look even better. Having read what I just wrote, I'm getting the feeling I'm not quite there right now – but what the heck. This MIDI TIE rocks and I'd die for a fleet of it. I don't think the tubing is that bad and I agree it would look even better in real life. Seeing how cool your model is, It makes me want to build a TIE fighter myself - perhaps in USC scale :) Quote

Sorry, again, for the delay. The only thing I'm really not happy with in this model is the bottom and the gappiness. I lost track of time, one thing led to another, and I realized that I had build an 800-piece top half and I didn't have time to upload the pictures or finish a proper bottom in the time limits I'd set for myself. On the other hand, I love the way the mandibles turned out. I'm sure that with some more time and real bricks, you could even make it much better. Especially filling those gaps is hard in LDD... Yet using flex tube is a pretty smart idea. Extra brownie points for asymmetrical greebling and nice use of cheese slopes on the jaws and deflector shield projectors. I was certain that you’d SNOT the mandibles and use those arch pieces to represent the maintenance access bays, and the result looks even better than I had expected. Judging by the tiles on the sides and the space between the innermost access bays and the wedge plates, though, it looks as if you had intended to attach the mandibles about two studs farther in but didn’t. (The jaws also look a tad bit short.) But I can excuse the excess length because you’ve achieved one thing I have yet to see on any other LEGO Falcon – the tow-in on the mandibles! Once this is finished, it will trounce even ototoko's! Quote

The Millennium Falcon is notoriously tough to recreate in LEGO really well, even with a lot more time and flexibility in scale, as most or all LEGO Star Wars fans (and LEGO employees) surely know all too well, and this is a very good rendition already, particularly given the constraints under which it was made.
