Ralph_S Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Eurobricks can frustrating at times. Often I just can't figure out where to post something. Military models are obvious, but my car models? I generally post then in the Model Team/ Technic forum, but they don't get a lot of love there. Some people look at them and might get one or two comments, fortunately generally nice. Sometimes they get none and after a few days the thread sinks to page two, never to be seen again. My models do seem to gain attention if they're front-paged, which fortunately has happened a few times. I know EB is not supposed to be about views, but I wouldn't post them here if I didn't think people might be interested in seeing them. Do town builders even see things that are posted in the Technic/ Model Team forums? Aren't my models too big for the more minifig oriented Town scene and would people in the Town forum appreciate them? Some examples. UK Police Ford Focus (1) by Mad physicist, on Flickr VW Samba van (2) by Mad physicist, on Flickr Toyota Prius (1) by Mad physicist, on Flickr I can't figure out where to post them and I'm interested to find out your views on where to put them. Thanks in advance, Ralph Quote
Modulex Guy Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 In my opinion I think that the Technic forum should be split up. I do love to see model team and miniland scale mocs, but I do not go into the Technic forum that often. The Technic forum should be technic only and there should be another Forum section for Model Team/Miniland/Sculpture section. Quote
prateek Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Considering these are Miniland scale, I think they should go in Special Themes. I think Model Team MOCs should be moved to Special Themes too, given that they are made of system and not Technic. Quote

Darth Dino Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 Hi i think too that spliting the forum will nit help. But if it will be moved to special themes it would fit well. It is the same with architecture Mocs that do not have the minifig scale. Those of them that have been posted in the town subforum do not get a lot of feedback. Team model and architecture are the same, high detail and "free" scale. Anyway Ralphs Mocs are great and should get all the feedback :) Maybe spcial themes should be renamed to "hard to find" - compareable with the S@H section where all the treasures are ;) Then all od us easily recognise that it is worth to look there. happymark Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 Ralph_S, I love your MOCs although I do not post comments often. I do agree with you and more people building in minifigure (or SYSTEM) scale, I guess 70% - 80% ? (think about Town/City and Castle/Pirate/Trains) Technic is one of big group which is not in SYSTEM scale. Actually your MOCs are more like 'Advanced Creator' scale. (by the way, nowadays Creator houses sets are also built in minifigure scale) Maybe need a new Forum about No-Minifig scale Mark Eurobricks can frustrating at times. Often I just can't figure out where to post something. Military models are obvious, but my car models? ... Thanks in advance, Ralph Quote
Dakar A Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 If the rest of the Town people are like me, I hardley ever check technic. But your car models would be a breath of fresh air to some of us in town, plus, we can see the great building techniques you use, and "borrow" them... If you want veiws, you've got a good chance of getting them in Town. Dakar P.S.- I think all of the models you have pictures of in this thread are great!! Quote
brickmack Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 Looks like special forums to me. It would be nice though if there was a special forum just for miniland and similar scales. Also, those ones you posted look great, particularly the police car and the white car. Quote
Ralph_S Posted December 3, 2011 Author Posted December 3, 2011 Thanks everyone for the comments. Much of EB is arranged along themes that LEGO do. The theme that I think is closest to what I do is Model Team, but IMO that doesn't really fit with Technic. The scale of my models is wrong for Town (even though Town builders might like them). Creator didn't even exist when I started building cars many years ago, so I have a hard time thinking of my models as being Creator. What is Creator anyway? I see it more as the idea of a set with lots of good parts to build your own stuff with than as a design standard, as evidenced by the wide variety of sets that have been released in that theme. Minifig scale houses, microscale vehicles, walking Dinosaurs etc. All of this suggests that they might have to go in among the hodgepodge of 'special themes'. Next time I build a car, I'll post it there and see what happens. Cheers, Ralph Quote
mrklaw Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 Hi, Just wondering if there are many larger scale non-technic cars and vehicles made in Lego? A lot of the cars in the technics forum are amazing, but have a lot of engineering in - gearboxes etc. I'm looking for models more focused on the external appearance, but larger than minifig scale - so eg 16 studs wide. Would those mostly still be in the technics forum, or town, or somewhere else? Quote

In terms of LEGO sets, the CREATOR range often produces vehicles in various scales. But these aren't necessarily designed for accuracy. If you're looking for MOCs, larger scaled vehicles can be found in Special Themes and sometimes in Town (though these are usually minifig-scaled). You could also check out the Model Team MOC index in the Technic Forum. Hope that helps! Quote

Javert Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 That police car is fantastic! I'd love to see you do a London bus or a Delorean DMC12 in that scale! Quote
mrklaw Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 Thanks for the merge. It's an interesting discussion. Doe the town forum only allow sets/MOCs that would fit in a minifig scale, or does it allow anything (like cars) that thematically fit in a town setting? Quote
gotoAndLego Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 As I've started building at this scale, which is smaller than Miniland scale, I too would like to see them moved out of Technic. I suppose Special is the most appropriate as well. The funny thing is that the Modular buildings aren't really minifig scale. The interiors are, but the height is all wrong. Heck, even the lego doors are too tall. Quote
-zenn Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 (edited) I'd say Town; doesn't really look 'Technic' enough to me. But when starting a new topic, I'd mention in the 'topic description' that it isn't minifig scale. Edited May 7, 2012 by -zenn Quote

Sorry that it took me so long to reply. I hadn't noticed that this thread had been resurrected and haven't been very active on EB lately and have rarely posted new MOCs, even though I have built plenty. My latest model is a Fire Engine that I posted in the Model Team/ Technic Forum. The Delorean has been done to death, so I'm not sure I'm keen on doing one. A London bus is definitely an option. There are some really nice ones out there already, but that doesn't stop me from wanting one of my own :-) Cheers, Ralph Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 Hello again . It's quite hard to say as you bridge the cap between the town and the model-team/technic section. I do not know what scale your model's are but model team is normally around 1:12 scale,I always think of you model's as 'model-team' more than something in the town section which normally is 4/6 studs wide and uses the lego minifigs. Hi. Good to see you made it back home safely. The scale of my models is 1/22. I don't think that LEGO were too concerned about the exact scale of their Model Team sets, basically adapting the scale to the wheels they used, but there are plenty of Model Team sets that are considerably smaller than 1/12. It's been a few months since I started this thread and I have slowly formed my opinion. I understand that with something as versatile as LEGO, organising forums logically isn't easy. However, I don't really care about in what subforum my models fit the guidelines best. What is the more important question is where should I post them that people who are likely to appreciate them are most likely to actually see them. A related question is why a model that gets literally thousands of views and dozens of comments on flickr only gets a handful when I post it on EB? The Technic Forum is not the place for my models. The majority of builders there are into the Technic aesthetic and functionality is more important than looks. I don't know who looks at the 'Special' Forums, but I myself rarely do! In terms of people's interests, the Town Forum is definitely the place. However, my models are out of place there among all the minifig scale stuff. The result: I haven't posted most of the MOCs I've built in the last few months on EB at all. Cheers, Ralph Edited May 12, 2012 by Ralph_S Quote
Darth Dino Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 Hi Ralph, it is a pitty not posting your excelent MOCs here. It is more than that, it a crime! Dino Quote

Indeed, the Town forum on EB is for minifig scale creations. Scale-wise, I'd say your creations fit in best with the Creator line, which is hosted in the Special Themes forum. Therefore, I'd say for most of your vehicles Special Themes should be the appropriate forum. The result: I haven't posted most of the MOCs I've built in the last few months on EB at all. That's a shame, because we definitely don't want a to discourage a talented builder like you from posting your MOCs on EB. As you say, organising a LEGO forum isn't always straightforward and not every creation will 'naturally' fit in a particular forum. Quote
