Hello technic-fans!

This is my first posting on eurobricks.

I hope my english is not to bad, because i am from germany and i don't often use english.

First i will tell something about me. My name is Markus, i'm 26 years old and i came back to lego technic a week ago with the amazing unimog u400.

Now here's my first question. To build up the unimog was so much fun and i consider to buy another technic set.

Since yesterday there's a special offer at "penny market" for the 8053. It only cost 49,99 € against 70 € @ amazon.

So i think it would be a good deal, but there are very different opinions about the 8053 in this forum.

I have the old 8460 pneumatic crane and i mean the 8053 would look nice beside this on the shelf.

So what do you think? Should i buy the 8053 for that low price, even for the parts?

Or should i save the money an invest in a bigger set like 8043 or 8258 next year?

Thank you and i hope you could understand my english. ;-)

Greets Markus

It doesn't have awhole lot of special parts but it's an interesting build. At 70-80 bucks in regular shops it's too expensive in my opinion, I purchased a second-hand with PF-M motor and batterybox for 60. In your case, 50 for a new one sounds decent.

If you're looking for a great crane model, get 8421, now THAT's a nice model ;)

- Sok.

ps. other than the name and the mention of penny market I wouldn't have been able to tell you were German

@ Xenion: Welcome to Eurobricks! :classic: To read various reviews of the Lego Technic sets you mentioned, recommend going to Brickset.com . If you type in the set numbers at the top-right corner of that website, you can read what others think about the set, see the Building Instructions, and more.

You should probably grab the 8053 Mobile Crane priced at 49,99 € . Later on (if you decide to build a "My Own Creation" (MOC)), the 8053 would offer a good variety of useful parts. The 8043 Motorized Excavator set is considered to be excellent, with a high "playability" factor. The 8258 Crane Truck is also excellent.

You should also consider that 8258 is getting old now, and they don't seem to be available at the LEGO site anymore. This means that the price for a new one will start increasing rapidly, so you shouldn't wait for too long.

50 euros for 8053 is indeed a bargain.

Hi!

Today i went to the market in my hometown after work, but the 8053 set was already sold. :cry_sad:

I think they hadn't got many of them in store.

The next market is about 30 km away, so i think it's not worth to go there for this set.

Considering about the 8258 is running out of production, i will buy one when my christmas money is on my bank account.

The 8258 looks more interesting to me, because i don't really like these fully RC things like the 8043.

Lego must be something to play with my hands on it for me. And i always liked wheel-based vehicles more than ones with tracks.

However, the 8043 with it's lots of motors and gearings is also a good choice... but my girlfriend will kill me if i spend so much money for Lego in a short time! :sceptic:

So the 8043 must wait a little bit.

Thank's for your help!

btw: this forum is great!

Be advised that the 8258 is scheduled to go out of production very, very soon. Maybe stores will have a limited supply, bu this set was released 2 years ago and so will be discontinued (or maybe already isn't in production anymore).

Yesterday my parents tried to get one for me, cause I'm in Copenhagen at the moment. That's far away from the next Penny Market it Germany :classic:

They live in a big town and tried to get it in several stores. Off course, they got one. But the worse thing is, that all Stores in my hometown got only two of this set for selling it.

Regards

Martin

Marcus, welcome to the forum!

8053 is a pretty good set. The build was interesting, and a bit different than some of the other sets. It was fun to build.

8258 is probably my favorite Technic set that I own, but I have yet to buy 8110. 8043 is also a great set.

Also, your english is very good. English is my first language, and I can't even get the hang of it.

Got the 8258 and 8043 and i love them both. looking stunning :)

Whick one of them first? the 8258. It's the "older" one
