Tesni and Hans, back to back, cut through their opponents, and Skrall, Dyric, and Haldor toss bombs, killing a number of the enemies, and scattering the rest. Waterbrick Down Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Skrall looks around in the cave for a spring to wash his wounds out. "Everyone in one piece? Haldor, will ya attend to Dyric and me when ya got a chance? I tend to yer own wounds first, you tooks some nasty blows back there. Hans, Felton, how do ya think we fared? I would of loved to stay longer, but I don't think it would have been a fair fight. Hopefully the rest of the troops and captains pulled through." Quote
Peppermint_M Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Tesni sighed and closed her eyes, the berserker rage was still throbbing through her. She sat in a medative pose and started the calming, nothing to deep as the war was still to be fought, but enough to stop her slicing through the first person to approach her. Her barbarian constitution made short work of the pains from recent wounds. As the fresher feeling came through she rose and approached her party mates. "Will we get the battle report soon?" Quote
Zepher Posted February 2, 2012 Author Posted February 2, 2012 "Pah. Don't worry yourself Ogre. We're learning 'bout war, we'll do even better next time, and we axed a few heads this time too." "Hans is right, learn from your mistakes. Those bombs in the first round would have thinned out the enemy, and we would not have taken nearly as many free hits if we had used them then. Using consumables before the battle wouldn't be bad either." "I could take some of the free hits off of you guys next round, Mr. Skrall!! I'm not afraid to lay own my life in the line of duty, the Phoenix Smoke will get me back at em' anyway! I am a warrior, even if only a frog!! " Quote
Peppermint_M Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 "This is my first fight in war." Tesni said, "it seems fraught, much more so than our skermishes." She drank down a mead and a nostrum "It would do to strengthen for battle." Quote
Waterbrick Down Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 "I do not worry my friends, we did our best as could be expected in such a situation and after weighing our options I felt retreat was the best course at the time. Should we prevail, do ya think the gaurds shall retreat back into the fortifications?" <I do not doubt yer courage my friend, but yer sacrifice would have only afforded us two more kills at best and a thrashing possibly at worst. No, it was best ya gain yer strength in order that we may confront the more powerful foes ahead, together.> Skrall also, removed his smelling salts and consumed them. Quote
The Legonater Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 I still think we need a better read on the enemy forces. Also, if Skrall could hang back and pick off forces somehow from afar, that would help a great deal. Perhaps even while we wait. But, frankly, I'm not sure if that's possible. Is it? Quote
Zepher Posted February 3, 2012 Author Posted February 3, 2012 (edited) <Remember, any Ko'd heroes still receive XP when a Phoenix Smoke is used to flee the battle. That's what it's designed for! So you do get the chance to fight to the very last man!> The heroes trek back to the Rebels base of operations. Vonnetate is listening, stoically, as Gregor gives a report. Gregor doesn't seem to protruded by the battle, and you realize he didn't see any combat. Vonnetate sits, tightlipped. "--we beat a hasty retreat, of course, and I'm sorry to say that I myself watched Samuel get cut down, right in front of my eyes." "I saw Haddock fall. Cut to shreds. He tried to flee. I have no pity for him." "It wasn't our strongest performance, I'll admit. Haha!" Vonnetate sees the heroes and turns on them. His face grows dark. "You lost. 22 of their troops survived, and only 18 of our's. I hope you will do better next time." "You'll be healed before the next battle! And I wouldn't screw up like that again. You've lost one battle, if we lose another one, we'll lose the war! Don't disappoint Vonnetate! You'll be healed before the next battle. I need to go speak with the men. The ones McColt captured he released, not a scratch on them! Fool! I'm going to see what intelligence I can gather from them! Tata!" Gregor also departs, leaving the heroes to prepare for their next battle. You have 55 Rebels to use, and 3 Rebel Captains to use. These are all the troops you have for ALL THREE BATTLES. Drops: Nothing RULES FOR WAR1) Assign a number of troops to the position. The City Guard will do the same. 2) You are given a Phoenix’s Smoke for each battle. You will fight the enemy troops, your number of enemies will depend on the amount of troops the guard have assigned to the battle. After you flee, if your remaining troops outnumber your enemies’ remaining troops, you have won the battle. The troops you used (not lost but used total) will be subtracted from your total number of troops. Remember the Guards will fight your troops (the number of your troops lost will be done fairly, trust your QM), so your troops will not be as numerous as when you began either. 3) Combat, in war, is slightly different. Bombs and shields that affect all enemies instead only affect six enemies. You should specify which six you wish to damage. 4) You will have to fight 3 battles, don’t use up all your troops in one go. 5) To win the War you must win 2 out of 3 battles. Before the battle you must complete the following: a) Assign the number of Rebels you'll use. b) Assign the number of Captains you'll use. c) Assign who in the party will carry the Phoenix Smoke. (Each battle will have a specific set-up, please read them all). Battle of the Mountains - Enemies will come at you in five waves, all equally divided. Captains will ride horses, and will be hastened until they are hit once. Edited February 3, 2012 by Zepher Quote
The Legonater Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 Mountains... that's usefull terrain. Can people like Skrall hide up top and snipe with a bow-and-arrow? Also, are there any nearby lodges with potentionally usefull equipment? Quote
Waterbrick Down Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 Turning to Vonettate before he leaves, Skrall chimes in, "We would have done better had we had more troops at our disposal, but someone had to weaken Gregor's forces, as well as kidnap the rest of my Party based upon some foolish speculation. I hope also that we shall prevail in our next assult, but do not lecture me on our losses when ya may bear as much blame as my Party and myself. Ya have my respect, Vonettate but not my confidence. See to it that yer warriors are ready, we will move out quickly." Skrall then scowls at the remarks of the remaining human captain. He calls after Gregor as he leaves, "Watch yer jokin' and judgemental tounge my good fellow, we may have lost a good number of troops back there, but at least they died supportin' a cause, which is more than you did sittin' on yer hands back here at camp. Now make sure the troops are all in order and ready, or I'll make sure Ms. Hightribe get's to vent some of her battle rage on yer hide after we're done here, captain or no captain." Skrall addresses the rest of his group, "My thoughts are the same as yer's, Rone. I don't think we're goin' to win this in a fair fight. Right now the scouts are sayin' the gaurds are split up into 5 groups. If they're anything like the last ones, then unless we take a considerablely larger escort the odds aren't lookin' good. Perhaps we could rig up some rock slides or such, either way I think we should take more troops with us this time, perhaps 30 and 1 captian, what do ya all think? In the mean time, Felton, Dyric go ahead and take my holy bomb and ice bomb, respectively for this upcoming battle. I can only use 2 at a time anyways." Skrall then hands his holy bomb to Felton and his ice bomb to Dyric. Quote
Peppermint_M Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 Tesni looked at the coward in disgusted. "Hearth rugs and milkmaids" she muttered under her breath as she ignored the so called leaders. "We only lost by four men, we can fight for longer next time. A horse is a beast yes? You have power against beasts Skrall?" Quote
Scorpiox Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 Haldor was angry at the bear-man, he seemed content to hide back at base but critisized Haldor's friends. He called everyone a coward, but the real coward was him. After all, it was his fault that Jess and Hoke were gone, his fault. "Skrall, next time we shall fight to the last man, since we will be healed afterward there is no point in using the smoke until the one possesing it is in danger. Let us prepare, it seems we are in the calm before the storm." Quote
Zepher Posted February 4, 2012 Author Posted February 4, 2012 (edited) <Please assign the Phoenix Smoke again! And remember it's properties (KO'd folks will still gain XP!)> The heroes, this time, feel more prepared for combat, and strike out. As they leave camp, they see the heads of guards being attached to spikes by Vonnetate's warriors. "I hope those weren't our prisoners... Gregor said McColt let our men go." Hans shoots a look back at camp and shakes his head. The heroes set themselves up at a small pass in the mountains, where only so many enemies may come at them at a time. Dyric, Felton, and Skrall lob their bombs, and bring 6 soldiers to the brink of death (-20). Skrall then slams an arrow into his weapon, but with little time to aim, the arrow nearly rips skin off it's target's shoulder (-9). Hans ignores Skrall's orders and realizes that, as Tesni did not take out the Captain's horse, he would be able to ride around and use his second turn as a free hit. Hans steps forward, whispers an apology to the horse, and plunges his sword through the horse's skull. Sir Poletad lets forth a mighty *ribbit* and heals all of his party mates minutely, though they are all at perfect health. Haldor swings at his target, but misses.
