Norro Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 Back in faithful service after a long absence, expect a little more regularity in the future... 6035 Castle Guard Year: 1987 Elements: 49 Figs: 2 list Price: $5.75 (USD) Lugnet score (out of 100): A solid 82 Review #: 9 Resources: -Comments left on Lugnet -Building instructions and Set inventory from Peeron The Thoughts of the boomeranging Norro: ...in under a word per brick... An interesting little set, with playability, rare pieces, accessories galore, and the mystery of two box sizes. It was the red octagon that made me buy this set (years after its release) but the mysterious black knight is also a cool inclusion and many time winner of the 'most deserved a black sword' from AFOLs the world over. A black saddle and a few more grey pieces would also be nice but this set maintains a charm of its own... Guest Minifig Comments: Yes, I am the guard. Trouble is: I don't know what I'm guarding, no chest, jewel, not even a cruddy barrel with a few 1x1 yellow dots in it... Nothing! Yet no sooner am I told to guard this place than a black knight shows up, sure he has a falcon shield, but what kid will notice that when he only has the two figures in this set, and who do you think will always win this little encounter?! I am shaking and I have no where to hide, not even a wall to crouch behind... "Take the rare roof, take it!" It's So Great I Must Have It Now: -On Bricklink -Or some non-lego specific site no one has ever heard of... Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 Nice review of a neat little set Norro. I like little sets like this. Just a few figs, something very easy to build -and a nice intro to a theme or supplement. Quote
Starwars4J Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 Fantastic review as always...and your personifications of the minifigs are always amusing :-D Quote
oo7 Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 Welcome back and thanks for the review Norro. This is a nice little set with some great accessories for its price, especially the black plume. Although I think the blue flag should be placed on top of the guard booth, but that can be very quickly and easily modded. But since both men (I can't say knights) have the same yin-yangish falcon heraldry aren't they on the same side? Quote
Brick Miner Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 I like little sets like this. Just a few figs, something very easy to build -and a nice intro to a theme or supplement.exactly... its like a minifig pack, but with somthing to actually build. love sets like this.Although I think the blue flag should be placed on top of the guard booth, but that can be very quickly and easily modded.i was thinking the same thing ;-) i do think it's interesting that LEGO included the horse "filler" brick and plates in the box cover art though... they usually didn't do this, as it doesn't represent anything except horse body parts in this set :-D - BrickMiner Quote

(which I probably should have made...) God Bless, Nathan Quote
Berry Syedow Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 If I were interested in LEGO Castle at that time (or even alive :-P) I probably would Quote
Athos Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 Yay! I missed the witty figure commentary. This is a fun little set. I think a bunch of them would make for a nice fair/market set. We need more sets like this... Steve Quote

Shakar Posted December 25, 2006 Posted December 25, 2006 I wish Lego still made sets like this. The black knight is unique, with the black feather and the white flag (I really want some of those). With a Black Falcon soldier (always cool) and a little building (probably for joust, like someone said), it's a perfect litlle set. Oh, and I love the minifigs' comments. :-D Shakar Quote
VintageLegoEra Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 Very Glad to Bricklink this set for ONLY $10 ( New VParts ) instead of insane prices for New In Box Set which is $150 + :) Quote
Hive Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 Dear lord, you ressurected a thread more than 9 years old to say that? But now that it has been ressurected, I'd like to say that this set is EXCELLENT. It brings so much playability for a set this size. To figs, a horse, plenty of weapons and... Black Falcons. Who doesn't love Black Falcons? Quote

ZCerberus Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 Bring old threads back is generally frowned upon unless you have something really good to contribute. We're a bit more liberal when it is a review, then instead of really good, your comment need only be pretty good. Your comment- maybe a little below pretty good, so be a bit more mindful in the future please. Some MODs will tell you reviews have no set shelf life, but in history I think we have a lot of more recent stuff to discuss and we should only stir up an old classic review if we have at least a "pretty good" comment to add.
