def Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Should have known I'd lose an argument with def It wasn't the argument! All I asked of you was one thing! No seed on me. There was a little self-preservation there, but ultimately, you were an "out-of-sight, out-of-mind" thing. When you targeted me, all of a sudden I had to put some time in to check out if you were on the up and up. You would have won if you'd stayed away. I can understand that the game wasn't as thrilling for you, just lurking about in the background though. Next time Seeing as everybody else could have done the same thing in private without me knowing about it, and you Agents all did it on the writeboard, I didn't think I should punish you because somebody posted your PM publicly. For all I know, everybody could have quoted their roles word-for-word to KDM when he was confirmed town, and I wouldn't have a clue. A lot of people did. Too many to count. I think it's in bad taste to quote the host, with time stamps and all, but writing it without quotes seems fine to me.
XimenaPaulina Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Hey guys! I thoroughly enjoyed this game. I can see where the scum were coming from, having played as scum myself. Thanks for the comments. I acted sheep, but I had contacted KDM day 1, and Def day 2. Looking back, that was the best thing I did. Honestly I think you did very well, and was very instrumental for the Town. You and Alopex are those special cases where flying under the radar and not getting too much attention, combined with proper coordination of night actions, proved to be a good thing and NOT to be construed as a sheepish behavior. A lot of people did. Too many to count. I think it's in bad taste to quote the host, with time stamps and all, but writing it without quotes seems fine to me. In fairness to all who shared their night actions with me, they didn't exactly quote the host word-for-word, so it was fine with me. With regards to me publicizing Brickdoctor's role claim to me and me asking in the game thread if it's worth penalizing him for that, I didn't actually see that as metagaming as Peanuts saw it. The way I interpreted it is it's one way of finding out if Brickdoctor's telling the truth, and I did so in the context of still playing my character within the bounds of the storyline. And in fairness to Doc he did make quite a convincing excuse, so convincing that it made me forget the fact that ADHO did not penalize him which would've meant he was lying and I would've been more convinced that he was indeed the last of the agents.
ADHO15 Posted December 11, 2011 Author Posted December 11, 2011 (edited) A lot of people did. Too many to count. I think it's in bad taste to quote the host, with time stamps and all, but writing it without quotes seems fine to me. Fair enough then. I know I'm not an experienced Mafia game player by any means and perhaps should have played more games before hosting, as the games I did play weren't all that different from each other for the majority, so let that be a lesson to future hosts. There were a lot of roles to coordinate and balance, and I wasn't 100% how the odd one worked, so playing and learning about more of these in practice would have been a better idea. Myself and other future hosts can now clearly see what worked in the game and what didn't, so we can all learn from it. Using existing character should probably be avoided as the temptation is there to connect roles with characters which, like I said, still made for a good game in my opinion. When we were planning the game, I remember there were a lot of people wanting an everybody-has-an-action game, which I liked because it meant nobody was left bored as a vanilla townie. Maybe 48 actions was too many, especially when I didn't know how to balance them properly. It seems the Scum were overpowered, but the Town won, so I guess it wasn't too unfair. I know I learned a great deal from the game, and will hopefully be a better player in future games for it. I really liked being in charge, though, and loved knowing what was going on when some of you were clueless. Now for the roles... Welcome to Gotham City Mafia! Your role is: Baby Doll – Criminal Marion Louise Dahl is a female actor who was born with a rare disease which kept her from ever aging, meaning that she spent all of her life looking like a young child. She became famous for a brief period when she played the title character in the TV sitcom "Love That Baby". After the show was closed Mary went through a rough, depressing period of her life where she realized that the only time when she had been truly happy was when she was in the show as Baby Doll. So she kept the alias and sought revenge on those who cancelled the show and thus ruined her life. For you to win, the Criminals must take out all the Undercover Agents. Abilities: use one each Night Action: Will Power – You may inherit the Action of the previous Criminal to leave the game. Use once. Skill: “I didn’t mean to” – Your adorable looks mean, if you accept, your alignment will be revealed on the second day. Use on Night one only. Please read the rules and confirm your participation to this game in the Confirmation & Discussion topic. Please ask us any questions here if you are unsure about anything. ~ Joker and Penguin Welcome to Gotham City Mafia! Your role is: Bane – Criminal Dorrance spent his early years in the hellish prison of Pena Duro on the corrupt South American island nation of Santa Prisca. He developed superhuman strength through forced experimentation on him involving the drug Venom. Although his dependency on Venom is an immense weakness, Bane has been one of Batman's most intelligent and physically powerful foes. He became known as "The Man Who Broke The Bat" when he broke Batman's spinal cord, forcing Bruce Wayne to give up the Batman persona while he recuperated. For you to win, the Criminals must take out all the Undercover Agents. Abilities: use one each Night Action: “I will break you” – If your target would be killed, you will block the attacker. Skill: Expert Strategist – You may use your Action twice during the following Night. Please read the rules and confirm your participation to this game in the Confirmation & Discussion topic. Please ask us any questions here if you are unsure about anything. ~ Joker and Penguin Welcome to Gotham City Mafia! Your role is: Black Mask – Undercover Roman Sionis came from a rich family. His parents hated people like the Waynes, but put on almost social masks in public to seem like more charming people. Roman hated the masks his parents wore. After his parents died in a suspicious fire, Roman quickly drove the family company into the ground, leaving it open to a Wayne Industries buyout. Driven mad by losing his legacy, he turned his hatred on Bruce Wayne. In the ensuing battle with Batman, the wooden mask that Sionis used to conceal his identity became permanently burned into his face as a living death mask. For you to win, the Undercover Agents must outnumber the Criminals. Abilities: use one each Night Action: Crime Boss – By framing them, your subject will appear guilty to investigation. Skill: Mob Influence – You may choose the subject of your target’s Action or Skill. You can privately communicate with the other Undercover Agents on this writeboard. Your role is: Calendar Man – Criminal Julian Gregory Day suffers from schizotypal personality disorder, with ideas of reference focusing around the calendar. He believes the major dates of Gregorian calendar mark times when he is personally and uniquely freed from societal norms. On these dates, he exhibits mildly sociopathic and frequently criminal behaviour. Despite being notorious among both heroes and villains alike for being something of a joke, he has a very bright intellect which he uses to gain his goals without attracting much attention. For you to win, the Criminals must take out all the Undercover Agents. Abilities: use one each Night Action: Holiday Spirit – Every other day is a holiday for you so you are able to vote twice on alternate days (the second by PM). Skill: Loyalist – When using this ability, you can prevent your target from being converted. Please read the rules and confirm your participation to this game in the Confirmation & Discussion topic. Please ask us any questions here if you are unsure about anything. ~ Joker and Penguin Welcome to Gotham City Mafia! Your role is: Catwoman – Undercover At the age of thirteen, Selina Kyle discovered that the administrator of the orphanage where she lived was embezzling funds and so she confronted them. In an attempt to cover up the illegal activities, the administrator put Selina in a bag and dropped her in a river to drown (like a cat). Selina was able to escape and later returned to the orphanage. There she stole documents exposing the administrator's corruption and sent them to the authorities. She also took the opportunity to steal enough money to live on before going back to the streets. Later she became a morally-ambiguous professional thief. After encountering Batman she immediately became attracted to him. For you to win, the Undercover Agents must outnumber the Criminals. Abilities: use one each Night Action: Astonishing Beauty – Your good looks mean you can easily convert any fool who’ll follow you. If you should be killed, they would likely commit suicide. Your role is: Clayface – Criminal At one time, Matt Hagen was a famous actor, but he became facially disfigured after a car accident. He was visited by Roland Daggett who offered him an opportunity to test a Renuyu cream: a drug that could refigure a person's face. Addicted to the formula, Hagen broke into Daggett Labs in an attempt to steal the drug. Unfortunately, two of Daggett's thugs surprised him and hyper-saturated the actor in the formula by drowning him in a canister of Renuyu. Instead of killing him, the cream bonded to Hagen's cellular structure and turned his entire body into the cream. The transformation gave him the ability to manipulate his body into any shape or form he desired. For you to win, the Criminals must take out all the Undercover Agents. Abilities: use one each Night Action: Shape Shifter – After morphing into your target for the night, you will be able to use your new action on a second target of your choice. You won’t be aware of what action you gain, however. His crimes would usually have an egg-motif to them and he would often include egg puns in his speech where appropriate, such as "egg-zactly“. Additionally, he would use a wide assortment of egg-shaped weapons, such as laughing gas eggs and tear gas eggs (laid by chickens on a diet of onions). It is yet unknown why he had formed such an attraction to eggs. For you to win, the Criminals must take out all the Undercover Agents. Abilities: use one each Night Action: Brainiac – Allows you to permanently learn and gain the Action of your target. Use once. While researching the lunatics at Arkham, she became fascinated with the Joker, nearly instantly falling in love with him during their sessions. After helping him escape from the asylum more than once, Harleen was suspected by the authorities, who revoked her license and placed her in her own cell. Later she fled and became Harley Quinn, the sidekick to The Joker himself. For you to win, the Criminals must take out all the Undercover Agents. Your role is: Hush – Criminal Tommy Elliot, born a child of wealth and privilege, became close friends with Bruce Wayne. However behind his good looks was a cunning and merciless creature. Tommy crafted a scheme to earn his own fortune. He severed the brake lines of his parents' car, sending the vehicle careening off the side of the road. Only Bruce’s father managed to save them. Twisted by his own avarice, he inwardly blamed Bruce Wayne for his perceived "good fortune" – a mentality that would one day fuel an elaborate plot to destroy Bruce Wayne altogether. For you to win, the Criminals must take out all the Undercover Agents. Abilities: use one each Night Action: Neurologist – Being an expert of the brain, you find it easy to work out whether or not your subject can kill. Skill: Talented Surgeon – Your brilliance in all fields of brain surgery give you five different surgical abilities to use on your target, although you’re not certain of the effects. Choose from: - Infection - Kills the target two days later - Concussion - Blocks the target from all actions - Amnesia - Protects the target from all actions - Brain Damage - Confuses the target (randomises their own target) - Lobotomy - Learns the target's allegiance Use each one once only. His mother died in childbirth, and his father abandoned him. Waylon was raised by his aunt, but her persistent drinking prevented him from growing up in an ideal household. Later, thanks to his great strength (and low intellect) he became a crocodile wrestler, killing them with his bare hands. Croc realized that there was more money to be made in crime, so he set out to become Gotham's most powerful underground figure. For you to win, the Criminals must take out all the Undercover Agents. While he was attempting to commit suicide by jumping from Gotham Bridge, a homeless man tried to assault him with a knife. Instinctively grabbing the knife, Victor Zsasz saw in the man's eyes that all life is meaningless and that nothing nor anyone matters. He then proceeded to stab the man to death. From then on, he dedicated himself to "liberating" others from their "pointless" existence. For you to win, the Undercover Agents must outnumber the Criminals. Abilities: use one each Night Action: Knife-Wielding Maniac – Allows you to take someone out of the game. One in three chance of success. He always starts a sentence with the phrase “Simon says…..” For you to win, the Undercover Agents must outnumber the Criminals. Abilities: use one each Night Action: Exploding Pies – You have an unlimited number of pies that knock the target out, stopping them using an ability. Your role is: Two-Face – Criminal Harvey Dent, Gotham City’s district-attorney, was dedicated to his job of upholding law and order, and became one of the first supporters, allies, and even friends of Batman and Bruce Wayne. Please read the rules and confirm your participation to this game in the Confirmation & Discussion topic. Please ask us any questions here if you are unsure about anything. ~ Joker and Penguin And as a bonus (if you didn't see it already on the writeboard) I even made Maxie Zeus from the Prologue a role. He was never designed to be a playable character in the game, but I gave him the missing Godfather role later on. Most of those are probably already known to the majority of you, but maybe they'll answer some questions. There were also several abilities with hidden extra parts to them: - Bane - "I will break you" - Bane had a 1 in 6 chance of being killed instead of the person he was protecting and a 1 in 6 chance of killing the attacker. This obviously didn't reveal itself in-game. - Hush - Talented Surgeon - Each of your unknown abilities had a 50% chance of success. I think only your first one, the investigation, was unlucky and the rest succeeded. Black Mask would have been a dead man after a couple of days if he wasn't lynched. - Poison Ivy - Flower Power - Blocking or protecting could not prevent you getting revenge during the Day if you were lynched, but this didn't happen in the game. - Ra's Al Ghul - Resurrection - As Killer Croc found out, you could not be killed by the same person twice. I hope you all liked the names of your abilities and the way they were presented to you each Night. Edited December 11, 2011 by ADHO15
XimenaPaulina Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 ADHO, I think you got my abilities wrongly. Those are my "inherited" abilities: Bright Intellect from sok and Fear Gas from Scarecrow. My starting abilities are (not the exact words): Action: Will Power - which allowed me to inherit the action of the last Criminal to leave the game. Use once. Skill: "I didn't mean to..." - gives me the ability to reveal my true allegiance on the next day if I choose to use it. Use only in the first night.
ADHO15 Posted December 11, 2011 Author Posted December 11, 2011 ADHO, I think you got my abilities wrongly. Those are my "inherited" abilities: Bright Intellect from sok and Fear Gas from Scarecrow. Oh, of course. I forgot about that when I copied your role PMs just now. I've updated yours and Egghead's to how they were originally. Sorry about that.
TheBoyWonder Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Thanks for a Brilliant Game. To tell the truth, I had never read a Batman Comic before playing in this game. I picked Killer Croc just because no one else had. A very good Choice! I enjoyed the Comic Format! It made the Game fun to read. Peanuts and K-nut I apologise for killing you. I liked the game format, Everyone having Night Actions. It made you think harder, and have to co-operate to kill the overpowered Scum.
Nightshroud99 Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Thanks for a Brilliant Game. Yeah me too, I have not read a single Batman comic. But this game and Arkham City have inspired me to begin reading them, which may blossom into another hobby that my wallet may not be fond of. Also upon seeing everyone's abilities and the thought processes behind ADHO15 and the Penguin, I can understand what went on and thus I retract my criticism about the abilites being too similar. I would have never guessed Harley Quinn would have been a protector Also, an apology to those I called sheep in game and on the whiteboard, because I can see that you were playing a stellar pm game. (Also Penguin, amazing set-up for the game, one year of planning and work. It's made me appreciate the game even more now that I know it was a labor of love. )
Tamamono Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Tammo - You've really come a long ways since our student days in Isla Paradisa, and I'm proud to see of your vast improvement in this game. Even if we've not really communicated in this game like in previous games, I'm glad to see you somehow shedding off your "Belville ghost". Too bad you were converted as I would've wanted you to win with the town. Thanks, Kiel! And a couple of apologies, first to sok for the "Stupid joke", and to Peanuts for my wrong suspicion on you (the same goes to Masked Builder, which I was also utterly wrong about). I guess my scum-reading skills still need a lot of "refining". I actually think Masked's death was mainly my fault. Sorry Masked! Seeing as everybody else could have done the same thing in private without me knowing about it, and you Agents all did it on the writeboard, I didn't think I should punish you because somebody posted your PM publicly. For all I know, everybody could have quoted their roles word-for-word to KDM when he was confirmed town, and I wouldn't have a clue. Well, for the record, I paraphrased mine to def.

Tamamono Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 ADHO, I think you have the nights messed up. I investigated Doc on Night 4, not Night 3.
K-Nut Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Yeah, on Night 3 I redirected Man-bats ability to himself.
Brickdoctor Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 With regards to me publicizing Brickdoctor's role claim to me and me asking in the game thread if it's worth penalizing him for that, I didn't actually see that as metagaming as Peanuts saw it. I don't think it's true metagaming, as it's information from within the game, but if you're the kind of player that likes to play with only the information your character is supposed to know in-universe, then it could be considered akin to metagaming in that if this were real life, there wouldn't be a god or Joker assigning penalty votes. I actually think Masked's death was mainly my fault. Sorry Masked! I think it was just as much my fault as it was yours. But I'm not sorry.
Alopex Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Thanks for the Brilliant game! Sorry I was inactive, I'm lucky def confirmed me night one... As somebody asked in the day thread, I got penalty votes for sending my Night action in to late. I love you Mr J!!!!!!!!
Brickdoctor Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Sorry I was inactive, Don't be. Remember, the inactive survivors are always the ones whom both sides deemed unimportant, which is a perfect position for a protector to be in.
sok117 Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Finally, an ending to this ordeal! What a great game to be a part of and watch. I wish I had played a bit more passively rather then spark up questions here and there, definitely could have kept myself alive longer. I had the idea of using my questionable character ability on night one, then telling everyone in day 2 that I lied about being investigator, to hopefully either get the scum off my case, or if I was voted out, to still be able to be part of the game. OH well, I decided to stay true to the town. Awesome job to the town, Def definitely brought his A -game for this one, and Kiel did an awesome job too (when he wasn't calling me stupid ) I would be really disappointed if they didn't win. I guess the death of some villains means no sequel eh? But with the new DC license, maybe JLA mafia?
K-Nut Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 I guess the death of some villains means no sequel eh? But with the new DC license, maybe JLA mafia? Please! Croc just put me in a coma!
Peanuts Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 So I've been killed both on Nights Three and Four? I think you messed something up, ADHO. Oh, and there was a bit of talk about my fear gas on the last day, I had told Baby Doll everything I had done on every day, so I suppose rereading my PMs would have cleared that matter. I used it on hush on Night One, Ventriloquist on Night Three, and gave it to KDM on Night Two, and was blocked on Night Four. But I guess you had an awful lot of PMs and other stuff to remember, organizing the town must be a tough task.
Tamamono Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 I guess the death of some villains means no sequel eh? But with the new DC license, maybe JLA mafia? Yes, please!
Professor Flitwick Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Yes, please! Shall we start auditioning now?
Brickdoctor Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 I guess the death of some villains means no sequel eh? But with the new DC license, maybe JLA mafia? Nah.Next mafia in which we get to audition needs to be Pirates of the Caribbean Mafia. Which character do you want to be? Barbossa Why? Because Barbossa's name starts with a 'B', and because Barbossa loves apples. Now, if Barbossa has a rotten apple and a soft, bruised apple...

Brickdoctor Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 You already said that on my profile! Oh yeah. Well, it was worth repeating publicly.
ADHO15 Posted December 11, 2011 Author Posted December 11, 2011 ADHO, I think you have the nights messed up. I investigated Doc on Night 4, not Night 3. Turns out I saved one file over the other by accident. I'll go back and edit it soon. I guess the death of some villains means no sequel eh? But with the new DC license, maybe JLA mafia? We have considered a sequel, but thought that there wouldn't be enough major villains left to use, so there wouldn't be much call for it. That's an interesting thought though and we might discuss it further. @ Brickdoctor:
CMP Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 We have considered a sequel, but thought that there wouldn't be enough major villains left to use, so there wouldn't be much call for it. Count all of the Penguin's custom figures and tell me you don't have enough villains. I can kind of see what you mean, though. Perhaps the opposite end of the spectrum? (Good guys?)
Capt. Redblade Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Why? Because Barbossa's name starts with a 'B', and because Barbossa loves apples. Now, if Barbossa has a rotten apple and a soft, bruised apple... Please, no more freaking apples! (Damn it, I still can't stop posting in this colour.)
