Jargo Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 Ah, right. I wasn't really paying much attention to the trailer. i just saw it had the same look as Cars and was set in the same world and assumed it was a tie-in from Pixar. It makes total sense that it would be a Disney movie. The masters of milking things for all they can get. Quote

How many different version of the Star Wars films did he release? Extended, remastered, etc, etc, etc :) Quote
Jargo Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 Not really, Disney have been milking things for an awful lot longer than Lucas. The house of mouse wrote the book on milking a property dry. And now they've bought Star Wars they're proving the point and are set to bludgeon the world to death with gazillions of movies and merchandise and lord knows what else. However, this is getting off topic. Quote
Christian Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Apparently LEGO is in negotiations with 20th Century Fox about a possible Simpsons license. The news is mentioned on several Danish news sites today and contain comments from LEGO marketing director Mads Nipper who confirms the ongoing negotiations. CMP Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 I'm almost sure this is some kind of joke and they'll announce the theme on April 1st. Still, who knows? Quote
RaincloudDustbin Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 I love the Simpsons but who would want sets based on it£? Quote
BrickG Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Interesting... Idunno, I haven't really bothered with the Simpsons since early 2000s. I've watched maybe 3 episodes since then. I have some fond memories I guess (even collected Simpsons trading cards at one point). I might buy Simpsons sets... not sure. Quote
lightningtiger Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 You know the funny thing.....a few hours ago I thought to myself.....how would I build a Kwik-E-Mart ? The show is still popular and applying the logic behind Star Wars and Indiana Jones....even old themes live on. Quote
Dane Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 (edited) I'm almost sure this is some kind of joke and they'll announce the theme on April 1st. Why do you write that? It is in a the Danish (home of LEGO) paper Børsen (a local Danish equivalent of the financial times) today and confirmed by Lego's marketingdirektor, Mads Nipper, that the company is negotiating with the people behind the Simpsons, but he can not say anything about when an agreement is made. I think he thinks that it is a joke, because Simpsons has some adult content which does not fit to TLG. But it would not be the first time TLG makes a licence that has both kids and adults audience (Star Wars? Avatar? etc). Quote
Dane Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 (edited) Yes that much I did understand But how he can think that when it is written in a serious paper and partly confirmed by Lego already, I don't understand. But exciting to see what the result of these confirmed negotiations is, and what type of product LEGO has in mind with this license if it goes through. Edited March 7, 2013 by Dane Quote
willybob Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 I really think that if this Simpson range is properly done, it could become a strong seller, even worldwide. Tons of characters to collect, many places to reproduce, etc... Quote
just2good Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 (edited) I was a huge Simpsons fan, so here are my thoughts. Personally, I really don't think it fits LEGO's "brand standard". There are some really risque stuff in some episodes. I will be really happy if this deal goes through, and I might just collect all the sets. The yellow faces definitely help. Additionally, I can see these sets appealing to more older fans, like Lord of the Rings, and with a few sets each year, like the Spongebob theme. I could see the initial wave covering the basics: the Simpson's House (with Homer's car, maybe around $130), Marge's car, the Comic Book store, maybe a little bit of Bart's School, and such, all with the most recognizable characters (and one Simpson's family member to each set). Then, if it proves to be successful, a second wave will include some more obscure places... Edited March 7, 2013 by just2good Quote
General Magma Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 LEGO The Simpsons? If I recall correctly, that show has several adult themes, so in my eyes that wouldn't be very likely to happen, but okay, we'll see about that... Quote

Must be some kind of joke... Quote

Clone OPatra Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 The Simpsons is not an 'adult' show entirely. Sure, it contains some mild rude humor, and adult themes, but it's still a show that kids today can enjoy and that isn't too risque or rude for children to watch. Family Guy and South Park are ACTUALLY adult cartoon shows that are normally seen as too adult for children to watch; compare The Simpsons to these shows, and you will find that Simpsons is very tame. I don't think The Simpsons is any more adult than Pirates of the Caribbean, (probably) Lone Ranger, or Lord of the Rings. Sure, it's different, since The Simpsons contains some adult-themed humor instead of just violence, partial nudity and some intimations about sex (things that can be found in the various films I just mentioned), but those sorts of subtle things probably go over kids heads and they enjoy the show for different reasons, since that humor on The Simpsons is mostly subtle enough. I would never expect LEGO to make sets based on The Simpsons, but since it has been widely popular for years (at least in the US, can't speak for the rest of the world) and is acceptable enough for children (and definitely for the upper edge of the age range, 11 or 12), I could see this license coming to fruition. Quote
DarkFader Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 (edited) I agree with Clone O'OPatra. The Simpsons is not that adult anymore when compared to most other animated sitcoms nowadays; yes, there's some more raunchy stuff and references but it is still a show young viewers can and does watch with their parents or otherwise. For example, LOTR are rather adult movies (lots of violence and scary & unsettling moments) but LEGO still made sets based off of them so I don't see why The Simpsons can't be LEGO-fied as well (but I admit that it is something I definitely didn't expect to see up on LEGO's table as a probable project). Kez Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 I can't wait to see lego Simpsons if TLG get the license (fingers crossed), the possibilities could be endless and I'd love to see the new moulds for the figures, marges hair piece would be awesome and homer could have a similar hairpiece to that of the series 10 old man. Infernum Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Hmm, Lego Simpsons . I can't even imagine that! Doesn't seem too likely to me, but who knows. I know I wouldn't buy the sets but I'm sure some people would. Quote
