That was the one thing that upset me the most with Alastor's death in the movie: why didn't they bricking show it!?! He is one of my favourite characters ever, and they were all just like "Oh ya, Mad-Eye. Hmmm... He died." "Uh... That's too bad" Like, what the brick!

To be fair, that is how it is in the book.

Is there any new news about the the promo sets "The Trolley" and "The Lab" or those were fake?

I doubt these sets are fake. The building instructions are available now and you can check it here and here.

Oh gosh, I had completely forgotten about these

Probably only going to get the Forbidden Forest and Knight Bus, The forest because of the Figures and the Bus because I always thought it looked cool.

For some reason I just can't get into these sets, I love Harry Potter but, I just don't find these sets "fun" and their very expensive :sadnew:

I'm not a MOCer so the parts dont' concern me.. But I can see that is a big draw :classic:

makes sense that is released before the DH sets, but weird LEGO says nothing about it. with the Cars 2 sets they posted them and then they took them down the next day, so i wonder if they will do the same thing with this.

Anyway, that was off topic...

they didn't show him die because in the book they just said 'yeah, mad-eye's dead.' Kinda lame, i know. anyway, i'm going to check my local TRU to see if the KB is actually there!!! Of course, it'll be 5 more dollars at TRU. the Lego store didn't have any, though....

I actually thought it was more powerfully written to have him die without any fanfare. Nobody expected him to die, and no one had a chance to say goodbye (Totally didn't intend that sentence to sound like it was in iambic pentameter, but it works). He had no fanfare, no chance for people to even give him a parting glance... you just found out abruptly and without any chance to prepare for the news that he didn't make it. It, along with Hedwig's death, really set the tone for the rest of the movie and established that anyone, no matter how important or undeserving of that fate, could die.

Anyway, I'm kind of surprised that the Knight Bus has shown up on the TRU website, even though it's the most logical one to make the first appearance among these sets. Personally, I'm kind of indifferent about these sets, and am willing to wait patiently for them-- I'm much more enthusiastic about the upcoming books like the visual dictionary.

I don't want to turn this into a huge discussion about the Potter books, but I feel that this should be defended. J. K. Rowling's writing style is much more real and stylized than many writers, this, along with giving the story the immersive feel it has, can make certain points feel less dramatic than other writers would have made them. She also has a very distinct writing style in that (with the exception of the first chapter or two) the book is always from Harry's point of view, without being first person, and the readers aren't allowed to know anything he doesn't. The schematics of the battle, with the chaos and nobody being able to really see what's happening would have made it impossible to have made Moody's death any more dramatic without totally ruining the scene.

Now, after that elongated display of my opinions on this matter, a word about lego. I was at TRU yesterday and there was no trace of any Knight Busses, or any othe Potter sets (even the old ones were sold out). That hardly justifies the paragraph above, but sometimes I just have t get my opinions out there. Sorry.

Not sure if anyone's mentioned it, but all the new Harry Potter sets are in the latest catalog. Unfortunately, they're not available yet from LEGOshop.com in the United States, and probably not in other countries either. It says pre-orders start on the 16th, and then June 1st is when shipping begins.

The catalog does suggest combining the new Hogwarts with last year's. So I may end up getting that just for that sole purpose, since last year's Hogwarts Castle set is the only one of last year's sets I've gotten so far. It's nice that they're physically compatible, although I hope they're also visually compatible.

Hmm, interesting. I now understand what it means by "rebuilds into London bus or regular bus" about the Knight Bus: it just means the layers are stackable, two layers for London bus, one layer for regular bus.

What I find more intriguing is that they now call Battle of Hogwarts just Hogwarts. Yes, it is a mashup of different Hogwarts rooms, but seeing the minifigures included and the artwork it would still make more sense to leave it as Battle of Hogwarts. The problem with the name 'Hogwarts' to me is that when I think Hogwarts I think a whole castle, not just two towers. And I really don't think that these towers will go very well with last fall's Hogwarts, but we shall see.

Maybe 'the going very well together' thing is only this: there are technic bricks

that function as connector bricks. They allow easy connection with the last Hogwarts Castle.

I do think the towers and bridge can make a nice addition to the bigger castle,

especially when all the three parts (two towers and the bridge) can be connected seperated:

it's a kind of modularity that could enhance the playability of the combined sets.

I think the comment about the Knight Bus refers to the fact that it can rebuilt from the triple decker bus into a double decker bus (i.e. London bus) or a single decker bus (i.e. regular bus)

Does anyone know if any of these 3 new HP sets contain new parts (including new patterns/stickers) and if so, does anyone have pictures?

Well, the most obvious new patterns are the ones on the new minifigures, as well as the shrunken head in 4866 Knight Bus and the globe in 4867 Hogwarts. There is also what looks to be a printed tile in the Knight Bus set, but it's hard to identify what it's supposed to represent. As for stickers, I imagine the words reading "Knight Bus" and "KB" on the Knight Bus are stickers. The Hogwarts set also probably has stickers for its wall panels, but they don't really look any different than the ones in last year's 4842 Hogwarts Castle. There are other stickers on the interior for paintings, and the Mirror of Erised inside is almost certainly made with a reflective sticker.

Meanwhile, perhaps the reason it's just called "Hogwarts" rather than "Battle for Hogwarts" is because they don't want its title to be too movie-specific (especially since it has elements from various movies). Alternatively, since the Harry Potter theme is currently one of the most successful among girls, they want to emphasize creative role play rather than combative role play in the set's name. Note that the set description in the catalog makes no mention of the exploding floor of that central walkway, seen in Toy Fair photographs as a key action feature.

I seem to remember reading that the Hogwarts set included some sort of map or globe or something, is this true and if so where can I see a picture? (it is my mission in life to collect every single map and globe ever produced by TLG)

From FBTB's Toy Fair coverage:

It may end up looking a little different in the final version, but it will be in the set in one form or another. From the picture in the catalog that Aanchir posted earlier, the final printing on the globe seems to be brown.
