Bob De Quatre Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 Okay that's enough! That "discussion" ends now...
Herky Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 (edited) Thanks Bob, it was getting tiring since everything stated was "offensive" since it wasn't in complete agreement with the other poster that the rest of us then get called disrespectful, works both ways, discussion over, but I am sure Itaria will have something to say. Off the wall Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 I would really like to see Lego offer a Tiger II tank. Just think, 3000 - 4000 pieces. What a great build.
Itaria No Shintaku Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 (edited) Okay that's enough! That "discussion" ends now... Content was removed because editing one's post is indeed continuing the debate. It is a sneaky way of keeping on continuing the debate even though the mods asked to stop. So every content from my previous message has now been erased. Edited August 6, 2014 by Itaria No Shintaku
DPrime Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 I would really like to see Lego offer a Tiger II tank. Just think, 3000 - 4000 pieces. What a great build. I suppose there is probably a much greater chance of a military set appearing under the guise of UCS...
Herky Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 honestly they could do a UCS tank the size of the Batman tumbler, it really wouldn't be hard to change it up all that much, or a jeep that size
Off the wall Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 A jeep is a great idea. It's an icon transcending any military theme and could be designed/decorated to reflect any of it's many uses.
Lyichir Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 honestly they could do a UCS tank the size of the Batman tumbler, it really wouldn't be hard to change it up all that much, or a jeep that size I think a Jeep (or even Humvee) is far better than a tank. The thing about the warplanes Lego has made is that while they originated as war machines they didn't necessarily stay that way. Sopwith Camels and Red Baron lookalikes were staples of air shows for long after they stopped being used in war. Jeeps are even more common, commonly having mainstream civilian use. Tanks, on the other hand, are rarely more than weapons. They aren't used by civilians nor are they typically featured in shows or parades. If a tank is crawling through your neighborhood, you likely either live on or near a military base or are in a part of the world where war is a grim reality.
dr_spock Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 Tanks can be adapted to fire fighting. Which can be good in a riot fire. Tanks with NBC protection can be used for those industrial or nuclear plant fires. I like how the Brickshelf user Einon edited the sticker from the VW T1 Camper set. He makes his own military MOCs since LEGO doesn't.
WhiteFang Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 This is a moderators' warning to EB members who are participating in this discussion. Failure to adhere to stay on topic in a civilised manner and persistent to strangle any members' comments to attack on each other views to determine whoever is right or whatsoever. I will personally chamber any member from this point onward who demonstrate such behaviour and I will lock this discussion, which I am not very fond of. This is not a marketplace especially to create and display such undesired behaviour in Eurobricks especially when this is the Eurobricks Special LEGO Theme Forum. Consider yourself warned. CrazyDalton777 Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 An idea on how to approach this (if LEGO did) would be to have 2 sides as a war has but have them simply Green versus Red (like toy soldiers don't represent any one country or group) with military styled vehicles in those colours. This way, it wouldn't offend any country or group as its not based on one.
Off the wall Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 They should make a war theme. Okay, call it a military theme if you like. There are 'people' getting blown away in so many fantasy themes made by so many toy manufacturers, lego included. I wouldn't buy a military theme as I don't like war, real or pretend. But, my preferences shouldn't impact what others want. Besides, not like lego is going to make a minifig with a suicide vest. I'm sure a military theme would be done tastefully. Or, at least as tastefully as pretend killing can be. Remember, when all said and done, the end purpose of a military is to break things and kill people.
Hive Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 When I was a kid, all my favourite toys involved war and conflict in some form - and LEGO was no exception, whether it being Castle, Pirates, Space or City. That said, I think LEGO's stance on real life warfare is a healthy one and that LEGO would lose part of its' innocence should they begin doing tanks and soldiers and the like. I fully support their edict, their abstracted conflicts are enough.
___ Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 oh no please, not army stuff, in the world of so much freaking war conflicts it would look to me as a bad joke the more considering LEGO is primarily for our kids,,right?
dgherko Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 I love the models that people build so I think the best compromise would be a line of an iconic machines with no figures that could be along the line of the architecture models. With no figures, no insignia I think there would be less controversy. Having served in the military, and collected Lego both for over 20 years, I don't turn to Lego for 20th century on even more modern items. I do hope for US Civil War mini-figures in the CMF line
legofanatic12 Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 I do hope for US Civil War mini-figures in the CMF line They made an American Revolutionary Soldier in Series 10. Those kind of soldiers like British Redcoat, Civil War Cavalry, and French Revolutionary Soldiers are fine with LEGO. And also an Army Men minifig from the Toy Story theme is actually based on a real-life plastic army men.
Spud The Viking Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 I only ever played battles with my Lego collection/creations. (I think) We'll only see historical famous stuff on shelves like the Sopwith Camel with no minifigs. My fantasy is one day Lego will release jets and tanks, but that is just a fantasy I guess
legofanatic12 Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 (edited) Creator has already made a jet that looks like a fighter jet without any armaments. http://lego.wikia.co..._Blue_Power_Jet Edited March 14, 2015 by legofanatic12
Gremer Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 I do hope for US Civil War mini-figures in the CMF line They had a couple of Union soldiers in the Lone Ranger theme.
D3K Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Interesting! While I do think TLG could have made a lot of money by introducing a military theme (with kids (and adults) these days being in to Call of Duty and the likes, as well as the increase in other modern military media (films, TV-shows etc), I would rather see that they don't introduce such a theme! War is indeed a fascinating topic, but it is an adult topic IMO. I'm ex-military, did two tours to Afghanistan, enjoyed it, and would have continued to do it, hadn't it been for certain civilian complications (girlfriend). But having experienced war in its raw form, I would never want my future children to do it. And the way I see it, kids these days are exposed to a glorified, exciting, action packed, good-guys-vs-bad-guys picture of what war is, through video games, TV, toys etc etc, and I think it's absolutely great that LEGO takes a clear stand against this "trend", by saying they never will produce these kind of toys!
legofanatic12 Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 (edited) How about military aerobatic teams like US Air Force Thunderbirds and the US Navy Blue Angels? They are just performing stunts in the sky rather than war on air. Edited March 23, 2015 by legofanatic12
rx79gez8gundam Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 (edited) Both the Thunderbirds and Blue Angels fly fully combat-capable aircraft, although the modifications made for performances take between 6-12 hours to remove/convert. Also, every maneuver they perform is taught to all fighter pilots, it's just the "prettying up" of all these actions into one show that makes them seem special. Being that the aircraft they fly are frontline combat aircraft (Lockheed Martin F-16C Block 50 for the Thunderbirds and McDonnell Douglas/Boeing F/A-18C Hornet for the Blue Angels) I think the "no military" clause would kick in yet again, paint schemes notwithstanding. Perhaps one of the other air teams that fly non-combat trainers, like the Snowbirds or the Italian air team, or a private team like Red Bull or the Starfighters (flying retired combat aircraft) might be acceptable. That being said, I will point out that the new Creator set "Blue Power Jet" is a VERY thinly veiled Lockheed Martin F-35B Lightning II JSF. The lack of visible weapons is moot as the JSF is designed to primarily carry its warload internally to remain stealthy. It even features the lift fan of the F-35B. DPrime Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 ^ as a Canadian, I would buy a LEGO Snowbird, no matter the cost!
jluck Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 Not again... ^apparently... This conversation just won't die.
