10222 - Winter Village Post Office (pre-release)

Note: it's been quite some time since I posted an official set LDD file, so I'll have to go back and refresh myself on the guidelines. But since we are very close to Christmas, I figure someone out there might be looking for this set to go with the other two... It's not 100% complete (missing minifigs for one), but the meat and potatoes are here for your LEGOing pleasure.

Download the LXF

Enjoy!!!

p.s. updated version with missing items coming soon!

p.s.s. yeah... right after I update the previous twenty "updates coming soon!" posts from the past!

Crap... it's been so long that I posted a new topic rather than the intended reply in the correct place!!!

@admin - could you please delete this thread??? Thanks :)

Edited by PerryMakes

It is politics of this forum to not post the set until it is released, even if few days are missing.

Anyway, if you built it from original instructions (taken for example from LEGO site or from a box you bought), we can consider it released.

So, please, verify that, so I'll move your post in the right place.

PS: it seems the colour of the roofs is wrong. Did you check the colours?

PPS: the preview image is too big for the official topic: trhe maximum size allowed is 512x512 pixel.

EDIT: I see you added the set to the official topic too.

So I'll delete this topic when you can confirm you have read what I wrote here.

Thanks for taking the time to offer up the advice Calabar. As you can see, I realized this was incorrectly posted - I corrected what I could, but obviously an admin will have to remove this thread.

Responses to your comments:

- This set has been released for quite some time now. I used a hard-copy of the official build instructions sitting in front of me right now. Perhaps you see the word (pre-release) in the title - in this case I'm referring to the fact that my model is not complete - it requires minifigs, some color corrections, and a complete error-check before I consider it "released". I did, however, want to offer up what I had to those who would benefit due to the holiday we are quickly approaching. Hopefully this well-intended gesture is not also in violation of one of the guidelines.

- Please see read the thread that was posted in the correct place and your question re: roof color should be answered.

- Although I'm a bit surprised you have a problem with an image that is thirty-some pixels too wide x two hundred some odd pixels high (a total image size far less than a 512x512 image), I'm certainly one who follows guidelines to the letter. Again - if you read my post you will see that it's been a while and that my memory re: the guidelines has faded. In this case, I was thinking about the site guidelines - which allow for images up to 800 x 600. Regardless... the guidelines laid out for this thread are provided for those wishing to have their posts indexed. Honestly, it doesn't appear like that task is high on anyone's priorities right now - would you disagree?

I think that's it, but please realize I'm giving my time and resources for the benefit of the community. Following the guidelines is not a problem, but if people are going to unfairly nitpick without proper cause, I can certainly find other uses for my time.

Cheers ~ Perry

It is not necessary to disturb an Admin to remove the topic, I'll do that when this discussion will end. :classic:

About the "release" issue, I misunderstood your "pre-release" tag.

Here in Italy the set has not been released yet, so I thought your words referred to that.

Then there is not problem.

About colours, I saw the post in the Official Sets Thread after I wrote here, so I simply added the "EDIT" paragraph on the bottom, without modifying what I've written before.

About the rule related to image size, the rules for the forum (800x600) is different from the rule I used in the thread (512x512) because the aim is different. The first is aimed to don't load the forum with gargantuan images, the second to give a certain readability to the thread.

About the respect of this and other rules, my experience taught me that allow exceptions simply means to be involved in endless discussions. So as much simply, I ask to respect the rules as are.

Without the index, I think a topic as the Official Set Thread will be unuseful and confusing, so I think a not indexed set is simply like not posting a set. Then I hope that everyone who have interests in contribute to the thread will do everything is necessary to be indexed.

What I mean is that the rules are not intended for users who want to see their work indexed only, but for everyone who want to use the topic. The choice to don't index irregular post is due both to stimulate users to follow the guidelines and to avoid extra work to the indexer, as the great part of the rules are thought to make this work simple, otherwise it would be prohibitive.

And, obviously, indexing too is time and resources someone gives for the benefit of the community. :classic:

As you can surely notice, English is not my native language, so I hope what I wrote is intelligible.

It was perfectly intelligible - and although I was born in Reggio Calabria, I can't speak a word of Italian :(

The points you make are valid. From the beginning I had every intention on making the post meets the criteria set forth for the thread. Perhaps it just came down to laziness, but it being late and me being tired was more likely the reason for taking shortcuts first -> making fixes later... Most of my comments regarding the index are a result of spending countless hours to produce a handful of Technic models over 5 months ago - but never see them get indexed*. I don't even want to imagine how much work must be necessary to perform this task, but logic tells me that the longer it takes for this to happen - the more work/time it's going to take in order to complete. Would it help if you had more people involved with that task? I know that most of the time it's hard to trust others with something that's only ever been done by one certain person... but in some instances it's the only workable solution.

* I can't lie... there was also a time when I was super excited to hopefully one day have the cool "LDD Builder" trophy under my avatar... That excitement is mostly gone, but somewhere deep down inside... there is still a glimmer of hope of achieving the prestigious title ... of "LDD Builder"

Things slowed down a bit in the thread, so I wasn't rushing to send Calabar the updates. Naturally it suddenly kicked off again and I've had a million and one other things to do that probably count as "more important" (Quite why everyone else assumes "real life" should be more important the Lego I'll never know, but I digress...). I'll try and pass on updates stats to Calabar over the weekend so the index is a bit more up-to-date.

In the mean time, keep on building! :classic:

Oh, you are an almost-compatriot. :sweet:

About the passage I quoted, what do you means exactly? You made some sets but I didn't indexed that? That's because your posts was irregular or because the index has not been updated yet?

Note that, although I'm the only indexer of that thread, for the last updates I received a priceless help from AndyC (that made the great part of the work creating the stats in the right shape), because I'm very in trouble this period.

In order to provide a service anyway, I create in the first post a list of topics that has not been indexed yet, so that it is possible to every user to easily find that sets.

Another thing.

When a builder insert his/her creation in the Official Sets Thread and the post is irregular, my intervention is not aimed to scold him, but to help him to fix the problem, and that's why I list the irregularities and try to say what he need to do (so he/she have not to analyze the rules to discover what is wrong).

At the same time, I expect that a builder that I already warned about, for example, the size of the preview image, will not persist with the same error in the future.

I see the Official Sets Thread as a collaboration among users, indexers, staff to create a useful resource for everybody, and I think every one who want to participate should make his part.
