Brickdoctor Posted February 12, 2012 Author Posted February 12, 2012 Seeing that quite some time had passed, Arthur uses his telescope to look for signs of the Elves or anyone--or anything--else in the forest. He notices that a new reply has appeared in the book, but decides to take time to contemplate before responding. You peer through your telescope at the nearby land. The dust continues to rise to the east, and you can faintly hear the sound of large wheels rumbling over rocks and of many feet (or hooves) marching in perfect synchronization. You can tell that this is clearly a display of force, uncharacteristic for elves, but nothing the late Lord Keveak wouldn't have done. You see no sign of movement in the forest, but, considering that the enemies are forest elves, you realize that that means little.
Dharkan Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 "I'm grabbing a spear, want to be in close combat and I think I can use it against horsemen." I put it on my back.
Fred Daniel Yam Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 "Sorry, spears and shields are for mounted heroes."
Capt.JohnPaul Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 Are we ready for the next battle? Alex loads his crossbow. I don't think there's much else to do this round.
Brickdoctor Posted February 12, 2012 Author Posted February 12, 2012 Are we ready for the next battle? Alex loads his crossbow. I don't think there's much else to do this round. QM Note:I'm still building Flipz's spinning...turret thingy.
Capt.JohnPaul Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 QM Note: I'm still building Flipz's spinning...turret thingy. I'm still confused on what that's supposed to be or how it actually works...
Flipz Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 QM Note: I'm still building Flipz's spinning...turret thingy. OOC: It's called a Slice N Dice Blockade. Arthur swipes a shield, intending to give it to Althior if he has a chance to before the Elves arrive. Realizing that his...less sanitary measures were not going to be very helpful (though he fully intended to use the ammunition, if for no other reason than to get them out of the fort!), he decides to head into the woods to deal with his...personal issues. "Alexandre, William, keep an eye out. If any wild creatures attack, cover me." OOC: OK, Doc, I know you read Darths & Droids. You know what to do.
K-Nut Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 "Alright, Shields for Me and Will, Xander and Will get spears, and I'm at a loss of what to do with the swords. They aren't really much use to anyone right now. For this round of battle, I want everyone at their posts of the last battle, but with Me at the East Wall outside of the fort and Xander and Will at the West Wall outside of the fort. That sound good?"
Brickdoctor Posted February 13, 2012 Author Posted February 13, 2012 QM Note: I'll get the map updated once I finish the Slice N Dice Blockade. Note: The Hiyaaaaaa Hwacha must take a Turn after each attack to reload - this need can be eliminated by assigning a second Operator to the weapon.
posades Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 OOC: Can I attack using my club on horseback, or do I have to use the spear? "The proposed positions sound reasonable, Althior; William and I will do our best to protect the west wall."
Brickdoctor Posted February 13, 2012 Author Posted February 13, 2012 OOC: Can I attack using my club on horseback, or do I have to use the spear? QM Note:You can still use the hammer, and I encourage you to. Like I said above, the spear is really only useful against other mounted enemies, similar to the Standard-issue Halberd you found at the beginning of the Quest.
Fred Daniel Yam Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 "Let's ride", William makes Storm go into a gallop as they ride towards the West Wall. "All this hate between the races, nothing but hate. There will be a day when the forces of Chaos will rise again and yet we fight on. We fight the impossible battle, because it is our duty." William though grimly as he rode to his assigned location. "Some days, I really feel like settling down, marrying a good woman and live the rest of my life away from my bow."
K-Nut Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 (edited) QM Note: If you're thinking what I think you're thinking, the towers all have narrow doorways and stairs. Though you might be able to use the crane to lift the horse to the top of all the strong guys helped. OOC: Oh! You couldn't tell me they were narrow before I acted like a smartass?!?! "I'm ready and mounted! Is everyone else ready?" Edited February 13, 2012 by K-nut

Flipz Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Arthur returns from the woods and rushes to his battle position. "Hey, Althior, where are we going to set up the Slice N Dice blockade? And, it'll likely require a Hero to operate...perhaps we can assign Arasmyth to both, he can use the Hiyaaaaaa Hwacha for one opening volley and then switch to the Slice N Dice for the rest of the battle?" OOC: Say, Doc, what are the stats like on this thing? You did read the link I posted about it, right? I'm very interested in how the stats turn out so I can sic it on Heroes later so we can strategize.

Slice N Dice Blockade Requires 1 Operator Level: 1/10 Health: 15/15 Note: The Slice N Dice Blockade starts at Level 1, and gains 1 Level for every Turn a hero operates it, with a maximum possible Level of 10. If possible, the Blockade loses a Level for every Turn no one operates it. The Slice N Dice Blockade cannot move, and can only melee attack.

Brickdoctor Posted February 14, 2012 Author Posted February 14, 2012 With preparations finalized, you await the enemy. As it turns out, you don't have to wait that long, as, Arthur, you spot elves who have reached the grassy plains just east of the fort. Along with the expected warriors charging towards the river, you see a pair of elves in unusually heavy armor setting up what looks like a torsion-powered catapult. "Sir! We've got a large elven force, including what appears to be an onager, set to cross the river to the east. In addition, a small elven force has penetrated the forest and threatens our western defenses." PREPARE FOR BATTLE! All of you, choose your targets and the row you want to fight in. Also mention if you want to try to flee, move, heal, or cast a magic spell, or if you want to use an item instead of attacking. Any enemy not targeted will get a Free Hit on the party after everyone have acted. QM Note: Yes, I realize that the onager is typically a torsion-powered Roman-era engine with a sling. However, there did exist onager's with buckets, and the medieval term, mangonel, could sometimes refer to a larger engine which I don't yet want to rule out as a possibility to be introduced in this quest. The concept of the engineer was shamelessly stolen from Jebediahs. Also, I added an Ammunition stat to the Slice N Dice, currently listed as armed with sharpened wood, since it occurs to me that a simple way to upgrade it would be to change the objects attached to the ropes.
Flipz Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 "Alright, gang, listen up: Again, do NOT target any Scouts until the siege engine is destroyed! Isabella, help me load small stones to use against the Elven Engineer A!" OOC: I'm thinking melee units should attack the Onager, while our ranged units take on the melee units. Of course, Spag should just start the Slice N Dice running and keep it going as long as possible.
