Capt.JohnPaul Posted March 25, 2012 Posted March 25, 2012 Helm's hand comes to rest on his sword hilt. "I think I would be more use with a sword than a catapult. I've been fighting with my body and blade for all of my life, I see no reason to change that now. The elves will learn to fear the fortress of Bric'Bay!" Helm walks off into a corner of the courtyard and practices some sword strokes. That gave me an idea. What if we could train the pikemen better or something? They could then hold off more elves.
K-Nut Posted March 25, 2012 Posted March 25, 2012 "Actually, Mr. Delvergrow, you'd be more useful up in the Min Merlin, where you have less of a chance to get KO'd. So to change things up (hopefully for the better) Helm will take the Mini Merlin and Isabella will take the crossbow from Alex and take the Wooden Lookout Tower. And Alex, give me your bedroll already! " Althior, in his deep sleep, somehow nods in approval.
Sloop Posted March 25, 2012 Posted March 25, 2012 While Helm didn't like the insinuation that he was weak, he had to concede that the siege engines had to be manned. Grumbling slightly he approaches the Mini Merlin and tries to deduce its functions.

Capt.JohnPaul Posted March 25, 2012 Posted March 25, 2012 "Allright Althior, I'll be on lookout tower with crossbow. Anything else for me?" "Here you go, Isabella." Alex says as he hands over the crossbow. "Now what side of the elves should we spy on?"
Fred Daniel Yam Posted March 25, 2012 Posted March 25, 2012 I think we pose as mercenaries, then join their forces for the attack, and attack them from behind. "A good plan. But can you wait? My chu-ko-nu is taking forever."
Capt.JohnPaul Posted March 25, 2012 Posted March 25, 2012 "A good plan. But can you wait? My chu-ko-nu is taking forever." "Sure." Alexandre helps building if he can. "We just have to act really well. Ask for lots of gold, up front, and they won't be suspicious."
Brickdoctor Posted March 25, 2012 Author Posted March 25, 2012 QM Note: I'm working on it, I'm working on it! Did you get K-nut's approval for the spy mission?
Capt.JohnPaul Posted March 25, 2012 Posted March 25, 2012 Did you get K-nut's approval for the spy mission?[/i] We ask him now.
Flipz Posted March 25, 2012 Posted March 25, 2012 We ask him now. "Ah, you mean we ask Luke now. Master Althior isn't in a position to be asked questions of."
Fred Daniel Yam Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 "Ah, you mean we ask Xander as he is 2nd in command. But Alas, he is otherwise engaged so I veto it out."
K-Nut Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 We ask him now. "I know I'd rather have more enhancements made to the fort, and that the ones of us that stay there will be about half of them sleeping, so I vote no."
Capt.JohnPaul Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 Alexandre seeks Sir Lawrence. And asks if he could train the infantry and ponders what advantage that will give them over the elves.
Brickdoctor Posted March 26, 2012 Author Posted March 26, 2012 Alexandre seeks Sir Lawrence. And asks if he could train the infantry and ponders what advantage that will give them over the elves. "Sure, be my guest! I can't tell you what kind of advantage that would give until I see them in action, though. "Also, I hear the Voice in the Sky finally got off his lazy MegaBloks and finished the builds, so, sunlight permitting, we should see the repeating crossbow and polybolos finished tomorrow or the day after."

Alexandre calls for a training demonstration. "Shall we start with form and swords?" Alexandre trains the infantry for 2-3 hours (assuming I have that time today) drilling them in "Shields up, weapon at the ready." He also uses those few hours teaching using the pommel to attack with a sword instead of the blade to cause concussions, which will even go through armor. He also teaches holding the blade and using the crossguard to hook the opponent's weapon. "Sir, do you think we have tomorrow, or how many days until all the elven oste perform the big attack?

Sloop Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 (edited) Helm licks his blade thoughtfully. He was surprised at the pommel trick, usually bashing the enemy with the blade enough times in the crotch their weak points was enough to take them down. He was anxious to try out the technique in battle. He gained a new respect for knight in the flashy cape. Edited March 27, 2012 by Sloop
Flipz Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 "Master Harkenshire, perhaps you could train with our archers, seeing as you share similar weapons? And Master Delvergrow, have you any devious plans that might help us get the jump on the Elves? We've already pretty much limited their approach to be from one direction, though knowing them they will likely find some small-scale method of bypassing it, but nonetheless I feel we've done everything we can think of. Perhaps a new prespective--that is to say, your perspective--will help us to find even more way to defend ourselves against the Elves." While he wait's for Helm's reply, he picks up Arthur's Telescope and looks through it to see if he could gain any more information on the Elves' numbers and approach.
Capt.JohnPaul Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 He was surprised at the pommel trick, It's pretty much the only way to kill a fully armored warrior with just a sword, the heavy brass pommel will stop them in their tracks. Now, what kind of army training would be without unarmed combat? Or up against an armed opponent? Alexandre shows the infantry the following techniques against a blade: Stabs (underhand): .Step/turn to the left side, use left arm to lock enemy elbow, and throw them to ground. .Grab wrist when enemy is stabbing, then just pull the arm down, and the enemy body will follow. . Push knife arm to the side, then use other hand to hit the side of the elf's head. Overhand stabs: .Grab knife arm, sidestep, and pull knife arm behind the elf's back, and pull; instantly the elf is on the ground. . Step slightly to the side, use arm to push against knife arm's shoulder, the knife will stop swinging, and will overshoot the Lion knight's shoulder. . Push knife arm to the side, then use other hand to hit the side of the elf's head. Side stabs: Use left arm, (if enemy is right handed) and raise it up; your arm will hit the elf's forearm and stop the knife. "Now if these techniques fail, and you are in a desperate situation, no fear, I have more!" If elf is behind you; holding you jaw, and about to slit your neck. . Use left arm and raise it between your neck and enemy's wrist, the knife can't cut any more; and use other arm to lock the elf's elbow, and flip them over. Back into the wall: Grab knife wrist when in motion, then pivot and slam the elf into the wall. Grab the wrist in one hand, the use your spare hand to grab the elf's thumb, then pull the thumb inward. Since the thumb is the controlling point in the hand, the hand will follow. The knife hand will turn inward, and the knife will be pointed at them, then just push, and the elf gets stabbed. OOC: I probably went over the top on this, but I train in this for defense... but who knows how strong our enemies are.
Sloop Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 Now, what kind of army training would be without unarmed combat? Or up against an armed opponent? Helm watches the knight drill the soldiers for a while and is clearly impressed, however he steps forward to show them some moves that an honorable knight will most definitely not show them. As he is beginning to tire after the long ride to the fortress, the setting up of the scare traps, and the drill with the other soldiers, he only shows them two particularly useful martial manuvers. The first is a brutal stamp designed to dislocate the enemies knee, and the second is the good old fashioned grit to the eyes.

He slightly winces when the new hero shows unhonorable moves, but nevertheless, he thought, if the enemy didn't say mercy or yield, Chivalry didn't apply. And, grappling and wrestling was a major part of fighting. The front ranks were so cramped on each side, the couldn't use their weapons.
