SilvaShado Posted December 18, 2011 Posted December 18, 2011 One fun thing I did this year was make little vignettes as gifts for people who were not fans of LEGO. I based the vignettes off things those people liked and they were a huge success. I wanted to share them here and maybe inspire others to spread the joy of LEGO, one small hand-crafted set at a time. For this one, my friends' biggest love is her family so I made a little scene of her, her husband and her two boys making a snowman. For this one, my friend had, at one point, wanted to be a pastry chef and currently is one of the best bakers I've ever met. So I created this little bakery scene with the counter, which has cupcakes in the bottom, cookies and a pie on top. I did the colorful back wall just for fun and to round out the look of it being inside. Another friend loves to go bike riding on the weekends so I made this peaceful outdoor scene. She loves it so much that she takes the bike off the vignette and scoots it across her desk. She's found a trick to make it roll very smoothly with a small flick. This one I gave as a gift earlier this year as a retirement present. My supervisor loved a lot of things - theatre, mountain climbing and her dog so I combined them all into one scene of her acting in a play about going mountain climbing with her dog. She has emailed me since and says that it's on her mantle and she sees it every day and smiles. Here's the full gallery in case anyone wants to see images of the backs. Quote
sok117 Posted December 18, 2011 Posted December 18, 2011 Thats a very cool idea! I think giving the gift of bricks is the greatest gift, not only for the lego-lover but for ones you care about as well because as you have shown it can be very personal. I'm sure all of your friends appreciate those very much! Quote
Vindicare Posted December 18, 2011 Posted December 18, 2011 That's a great and thoughtful idea. Gifts from the heart, no matter how small, are always the best. Quote
White Nun Posted December 18, 2011 Posted December 18, 2011 Oh those are amazing SilvaShado. What wonderful gifts to give to a friend. I particularly like the bicycling one Quote
SilvaShado Posted December 19, 2011 Author Posted December 19, 2011 Thanks for all the feedback! Yes, everyone loved their gifts and I felt really good giving them. Much better than buying something else. It was also so much fun, though a bit challenging at times to find the right pieces. lol. I am planning to do this more next year. Expand to birthdays and other celebrations. If I can plan it right, it'd be fun to make one for everyone for the holidays next year. I'd have to start in January with planning and starting to collect the right pieces. Quote
Grimmy Posted December 19, 2011 Posted December 19, 2011 Those are really cute. lol I can't help but wonder if your dropping of a little Lego virus bomb... hahaha Next time you come back to their house to gift one of those viginettes, you'll find a ton of Lego boxes and Lego's have taken over the peoples houses as everyone is now into Lego too. I can see it now... "It all started so innoccently.... we first got a few of these little displays called "vigenettes" and then we liked the figures so much we went out and bought some more... that led to buying bigger sets because you know the figures need homes right? And then well, BAMN, my husband bought the Death Star with his bonus this year and that was it." "I went to visit grand papa, I was worried I hadn't heard from him in weeks. We knocked on the door but their was only a muffled sound, "coooo, coome, iiiiin..." so we opened the door and their was grandpapa under a mountain of Legos! So I jumped right in like it was a pile of leaves! Mommy says she is going to buy me my own sleeping bag so I can sleep their on the weekends and we can play Legos!" Quote

Yeah, that sounds like a plan. I'll take over my friends' lives with LEGO, one piece at a time. Quote
brickmack Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 Cool gifts, the bike one is my favorite. I wonder if anyone will end up getting more sets after getting these. Quote
