colinrichardson Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 Hi people. Sorry to be slightly off-topic but I am building the Unimog as I type. Ive run into an issue with the front suspension... When I apply the small arm on step 95 it makes the front suspension move to the right so it does not stay straight in a rested position. Any ideas where I have gone wrong? Thanks Paul Are you talking about this: http://www.technicbricks.com/2011/07/8110-unimog-u400-panhard-rod.html http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=58706 ? Quote
Edwin Korstanje Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 When i read this topic and hear that some people are so proud that they build it in record time, they don't understand there hobby. Take your time and when you building sets learn from TLG why they build in that way. Myselff i don't like building sets, but sometimes i build some one and only for learning from that. You must enyoy your 150 euro sets and not finnised it in 4 our Quote
Bzroom Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 (edited) I agree. I save my sets until a later day if I'm going to be rushed. The Unimog was my first set coming out of the dark ages. I must have taken 200 pictures of the chassis. I was blown away by the new Technic style. I starting building it during New Years Eve with my girlfriend. I built the chassis the first night. The cab the next day. And on the third day I found just enough time to build the crane. I love that set, but my only complaint is the weak gripper. Also, the pins that are intended to be pulled to lift the cab and remove the crane/winch are difficult to reach. So I guess that's two. :) This is the last weekend I have to work for a while. I can't wait to get back to building Technic! Edit: Fun facts: I bought the Unimog to try to bring me and my girlfriend closer together. We broke up and i went into another mini-dark-ages for another year. My new girlfriend liked LEGO, so i spent thousands of dollars on new sets. The 42000, 3 excavators, the super car, rc 4x4, millennium falcon, tons of creator, etc. My new girlfriend is now jealous of the time I try to spend with LEGO, but she's so sweet she'll still tidy up my LEGO room and stack my organizers. :) LEGO really is more fun to enjoy with other people. That's why I like this forum! I like to have lots of creator sets laying around so that when my friends come over they can build, even if they dont like to MOC, they can just follow the instructions. paul_delahaye Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 OCD seems to be getting worse, I keep aligning the pins when making the models, so the building time is becoming a longer process for me! I generally note when I rush a build, I have pieces left over at the end, I then have to go back through the steps, looking for the pieces I have failed to add, in general hoping it's only a cosmetic part and not buried within the gearbox! :-) Quote
dr_spock Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 It took me a couple of days to build the Mog. Building fast is good training for those speed build competitions at AFOL conventions. Lots of fun. Quote
JunkstyleGio Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 Don't get this fast building stuff.. Just take your time to enjoy it. And don't forget to eat, drink, sleep (and take the dog for a walk) and meet up with others... Quote
