I just started the process of *attempting* to upgrade mine from the original gray to the newer bley color by first upgrading the light-gray plates. I could sell mine and try to hunt down a bley version, but for some reason I don't think that'll work out very well. The display sticker is awful, so I bet that'll hurt resale value. Once I get mine to bley I'll probably start adding something back there.

Just saw this thread had returned to the first page :) Again thanks for the great feedback guys!

I will use this opportunity to show off an alternate version of the engine mod I have just created:

The picture is bit dark - my lamp broke :cry_sad: but I hope you can see what is going on.

In this version I have tried to at least "insinuate" the existence of the emergency engine housings and bring the emergency engines slightly forward - more in line with the real Star Destroyer.

What do you guys think? Is it an improvement/same/worse?

Happy New year - keep moc'ing and modding!

Morten

Wow, untill I saw your MOD, i never realised how lacking that section of the model was. I'm definitely keeping those pics for reference when I come back to mine (right now it's sitting in my bedroom halfway across the world and I don't know yet when I'll see it again :cry_sad:)

The first thing I MODed on mine was the shield generator dome on the bottom. (I see you haven't added one, so I decided I would point you somewhere ^^)

Great work on the greeble. It looks fantastic.

Thanks for the pointer:)

I have though about it, but I'm eager to see you solution - please post pics :)

I imagine getting around the "legs" were a challenge :)

Cheers

Morten

I think it's an improvement mortesv it allows the emergency engines to stand out a bit more.

The improvement is subtle, but I like it. It’s a good approximation of where the housings should be, and the crucial shapes are definitely there. I also see that you’ve added even more greeble, which is nice as well.

Have you considered alternatives to the 10-wide tires for the primary engines? Perhaps something that flares a bit more…

I'm glad you like the change - it was, after all, your comments that made me reconsider the engines housings  - Although I must point out that the greebling is almost completely the same as before - it just looks more complex now with the engines boxes :)

Regarding the main engines, the only real alternative I can come up with is to rebuild them from the ground up. What I would like to add to them in terms of detail are the three "fins" they each have. I have been thinking of ways to add these fins to the existing "wheel engines", but so far my attempts has been wobbly at best :hmpf:

I'm thinking this brick could look as such a fin if applied correctly - however with the current engine that is not readily feasible :)

If you have any suggestions I'm all ears :)

If the thrust nozzles were built as rings of plates, one could attach these to these. That's the best solution I can think of at the moment. Brickdoctor's usually much better with these kinds of things...

Yes those would work nice as well  Actually, Cavegod just send me some pictures of a space shuttle MOC with some nice engines (built of plates). If I get the time, I'll try to replicate those and attach the fins :sweet:
