Reidnex Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 I would rather buy a cheap official LEGO impulse set, than a large set from a cheap knockoff brand. Enlighten is downright awful - and - The only knockoff that comes somewhat close to approaching quality, is the Hasbro stuff, and even that is just not enough for my taste (but not for want of trying). It's your money though. But I just wish no-one would support these awful clones. Plus, the shipping will probably get expensive anyway. Well, there would be no shipping. It is in my local toy shop Well,by the way,do you think Bounty Boat is a good set to start with? Quote
Capn Frank Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 Hi everyone. I recently got into Lego Pirate collecting. I live in Belarus,so shipping costs are really high. When i wanted to bricklink BSB,i was very unpleasently surprised. Shipping with all the fees would cost me around 80$! Yesterday i found a chinese bootleg, that looks nearly exactly as BSB. The company is named Enlighten and quality is good. I have a copy of an Armada Flagship from the same company and everything is pretty good. Back to bootleg BSB. It costs around 40$ and has around 850 pieces. Enlighten makes high quality sails from material similiar to old lego ones. In this set sails have an ugly, childish skull on them, but i guess finding original BSB sails is pretty easy. So what do you thinks? Should i buy it? Reidnex, please stop creating topics every time you'd like advice on purchasing Pirate Lego. Thanks. Quote
Reidnex Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 Hi. Probably everyone is annoyed of me,but i will still ask a question about buying. So i can pay up to 58 euro. Which set(sets) i can get for this money? Quote
azog Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 So I fell in love with the imperial flagship. I noticed I dont own a pirate ship to fight it. I like the Lego black pearl and the Lego queen Anne's revenge alot! But I only need one :/. I'm not buying it for pirates of the Caribbean just to have a cool pirate ship, which one should I buy? Quote
Captain Pirate Man Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 (edited) I don't personally own either, but from what I gather its 6 of one, half dozen of the other. Meaning both are nice, but both have flaws. QAR looks nicer of the two, but has a small Captains Quarters. BP is a little more bare overall, but has the nicer quarters. Can't go wrong either way IMO, just which ever floats your boat. Edited February 19, 2016 by Captain Pirate Man Quote
Actor Builder Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 As someone who owns Queen Anne's Revenge, and helped his friend build their Black Pearl, I think that they are both just okay. Neither is really good, in my opinion. Especially after building the Imperial Flagship, I think you should expect to be a tad bit disappointed with the lack of size in both Queen Anne's Revenge and The Black Pearl. Since you don't care about the theme, it would possibly be better to get an unlicensed pirate ship. I don't know offhand how expensive those are, but I do know that the Pirates of The Caribbean are quite costly at present. I guess if you want a ship that can "fight" the Imperial Flagship, you'll have to MOC your own. Otherwise, the pirates should just sail away as fast as they can. Nothing beats the Imperial Flagship in a battle. Quote
dr_spock Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 If you have the parts, you can make your own pirate ship. I did a LEGO Friends version of the Black Pearl with parts I got from my LUG, Bricklink and mostly my own collection. I prefer BP over QAR. You could make both to attack the Imperial Flag ship from both sides. Quote
azog Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 Interesting theory I like some of your ideas, thank you every one for your responses! My last question would be which ship has better qualities to classify as a pirate ship? We all know he queen Anne's has better pirate atmosphere but what about little details that make a pirate ship Quote
shaggysanchez Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 I have both sets and if you go with either I would go with the QAR, while I agree it is not a perfect set I like it much better than the black pearl. I also feel that the QAR has more detail than the Pearl. Quote
blackdeathgr Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 Imperial flagship QAR Black Pearl Quote
Actor Builder Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Interesting theory I like some of your ideas, thank you every one for your responses! My last question would be which ship has better qualities to classify as a pirate ship? We all know he queen Anne's has better pirate atmosphere but what about little details that make a pirate ship For this question, Queen Anne's Revenge all the way. It has skulls everywhere. What's more piratey than skulls? A lot of things, actually, but I think you get what I was trying to say. Quote
Robert8 Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 (edited) Personally, I'd get the 2009 Pirate Ship Edited February 20, 2016 by Robert8 Quote
VintageLegoEra Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 if you have the money and desire, then go for both. i have these 2 ships and they are Gorgeous! :).... Quote
azog Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 The hard part is that i just paid $400 for the imperial flagship XD, I have to see I really like them both but its just hard to justify Quote
Lego_Girl Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 If I were you I'd get the MetalBeard's Sea Cow ship or The Brick Bounty since the older models are pretty expensive Quote
Actor Builder Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Metalbeard's Sea Cow is really great. It's my second favorite, next to Imperial Flagship, but for the pirate feel, I would choose something else. Quote
Dreamweb Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Both the Queen Anne's Revenge and the Black Pearl are now ridiculously overpriced and it's not easy to find either one at a decent price. If you want a Pirate ship, I'd suggest getting the Brick Bounty. Or potentially wait for new Pirates of the Caribbean sets, there's a pretty good chance that they will happen when the new movie is out. Quote
azog Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 But when the new move sets come out again, would they remake the black pearl and queen Anne's? Quote
Dreamweb Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 (edited) Doubtful. If anything, the second hand prices of mint QARs and BPs will go even higher. But, I'm sure LEGO will release a new ship or two that will fit nicely with the two earlier vessels. That is of course, if they release more PotC at all. But considering the circumstances, I'd be surprised if they didn't. Edited February 22, 2016 by Dreamweb Quote
azog Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Has anyone that owned the queen anne's revenge "fixed" the cabin? Such by adding a door and stuff? Quote
Actor Builder Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Has anyone that owned the queen anne's revenge "fixed" the cabin? Such by adding a door and stuff? It's not much of a cabin, if I remember it correctly. I've taken mine apart by now, so I can't be sure. I messed with it a bit. To me the cabin wasn't even really worth fixing. I just sort of displayed the set until I didn't. Now it's all sorted in my collection. Quote
Kwatchi Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 I d think the QAR would be the better choice, simply because is expect a re-do of the Black Pearl if Lego gets PotC 5 license. But frankly, the price is beyond me ATM for either these days. Quote
Actor Builder Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Kwatchi is right, The Black Pearl is (probably, I'd need to take an actual poll to be sure) the most popular PoTC ship. If PoTC LEGO returns, I expect a Pearl. Maybe a bigger better one. Quote
azog Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Wouldn't that be something a imperial flagship sized black pearl....only one could dream Quote
