Alex the Great Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 Well that is a great MOC to conclude the first part of your guide! I really don't have any criticism for this at all, I think you did all the small details brilliantly. Would be a nice spot to set up an embassy I think. Quote
MikeyB Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 Good reply ZCerberus, Like Z said, I only started building MOC when the guild project started. I have been a long time fan of lego and lurked here and other forums for years, admiring peoples creations. I guess I always knew I wanted to build and even though the closest Lego store is four hours away, whenever I found myself near a lego store I would fill a Cup up with plant leaves, brown tiles or the like. When DC started his guide it opened my eyes to the techniques behind some of the great builds and I made a couple small orders through bricklink and was on my way. I often just look at others builds online and get some ideas or try to recreate a technique. Right now, there is a fabulous gazebo that I would love to rebuild but I can't figure out the roof. the other issue I have right now is I have literally years of ideas in my head and it is hard to build them all considering time, money and . I love hearing comments and constructive criticism on my builds. People take pride in what they build (rightfully so) and they can take critics very personal. I think that I found out long ago in my other life (I was a combat photographer in the military and we did lots of Critic sessions on photos) that peoples critics are just their opinion and aren't directed toward me personally. With that said, it is always better to offer a solution with your critic than just say 'I don't like it." Another good tip I have found is details really can make the MOC come alive. For my Durham the Beekeeper build, I came up with the skeps (beehives)then added the barrel shed and the jars of honey and go from their. that seems to be the way I work now. come up with some detail peices and then build around them. An not stray too far off topic, Z is right, what can you say about DC stuff other than "Awesome!" Too often people don't have the time or energy to share their ideas. Others want to keep their techniques to themselves. In the end DC guide has inspired many people Quote
Niku Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 I would like to have an extended vocabulary to describe this MOC wich surpass the word awesome¡. Quote
The Undo Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 (edited) I always lurk on these forums, rarely write cuz i'm not a man of many words, but i have to say that this village, as all of Derfel's mocs, is astonashing. So beautiful, detailed and alive, it's surreal. Edited January 4, 2012 by omerai Quote
ZCerberus Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 After looking through the building guide topic again, I have to say the "shop" is by far my favorite build in the village. Really cool layout there! Quote
Gabe Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 A masterpiece and a masterclass all in one! Thankyou DC for sharing your skills with us mere journeymen and women (journeyfolk?), your guide will be an invauable reference for many a MOC to come. ps.
