Yes, seems like we have our local super heroine !

ROFL :-$

Unfortunately (well, fortunately really!) I'm off to France in 2 days time and working until late both days that I'm still here - so I'm not going to have time to remain glued to ebay. But if these fake listings are still appearing when I get back.................

I probably should point out that I'd normally be against bidding on ebay items with the intention of not actually paying for them........but in this instance my usual principles don't seem to apply!

Yes indeed - funnily enough I've been daydreaming about taking my revenge on the scammers. I've got it all worked out. What I'd do - if I was going to do it - is re-register on ebay using my hotmail account. Then, next time they list a load of sets, I'd use BIN on all of them - and obviously not pay for them. That would remove the listings before any unsuspecting genuine bidder could bid on them. I could just keep doing it until they get bored........

I've even got my username worked out - revengeissweet >:-)

Holly ;-)

Great idea! Do it! BTW if anyone wants to talk about LEGO on MSN add me at: turagaofforce@hotmail.com

Well I'm back and, so far, I haven't seen any sign of any suspicious LSW auctions - but I'm keeping a look out. Sadly it has made me a bit more wary on the Buy It Now front...

I'm still waiting to hear about my Paypal claim - does anyone have any experience of how long these take???

On a happier note, I do have a Republic Gunship!!! The one below has arrived and is absolutely wonderful *sweet*

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=280032197346

I didn't post this before as, after my experiences with the fake RGS auction, I had some fears that this one might be the same - but the seller of this "real" RGS has been nothing short of fantastic and has restored my faith somewhat.

I suppose I was being greedy in grabbing the fake one as I already knew I'd won this one - it just seemed too good to be true as my son (in true male fashion!) would love an "army" of Republic Gunships. Oh well, we are VERY lucky to have the one I know ;-)

3 months for my refund (less 25$) from eBay (3 years ago)

2 months for my Paypal (100% refund) (last year).

Be patient- they usually get it right in the end, but it can be frustrating with the wait.

Thanks gylman.

I actually got my refund this morning - it only took 2 weeks which is impressive.

Perhaps the fact that it was obvious fraud and there were many other "victims" helped the decision making process!

Anyway lesson learned......:-/

Wow, that is impressive. Paypal has gotten increasing aggressive about bad vendors, and no doubt the obvious nature of the fraud here helped.

A lot of vendors actually have been victimized by PayPal because some buyer claims a fraud even if one did not occur, and PayPal may simply take the money from the seller, without sufficient proof.

Still, certain it show that PayPal is aware that fraud is a problem, and threatens the credibility of the system, so they are agressive keeping things happy for buyers.

5 years on and this is still rife, last few days been hundreds people doing buy it now on deathstar for £129 and ucs falcon for £178, you'd thought after 5 years ebay might have sorted this scam out, some people have bought x40 deathstars :hmpf_bad: that is some serious money to have wasted.

I have to disagree with your last statement of "so they are agressively keeping things happy for buyers"

PAYPAL only care about money and profits for themselves, the only thing this scam had going for it was

that 200 stupid people fell for it, but had it been a 1 on 1, or 1 on 10 lower amount then you may have

found the decision to have been very different!!!!!

Especially since PAYPAL do/have screwed over buyers who have lost money because they accepted the sellers

dispute over the buyers (ie: me). I lost over $200 from Paypal because they made the wrong back and their

decision is final, so keeping buyers happy isn't their strong point! Making commissions is!

I've seen this with computers and many other high-priced items.

The Chinese have TOTALLY ruined eBay.

Western hackers would obviously never do such a despicable thing!

Didn't know this was happening. I have been on the lookout for a Sandcrawler too. Makes me hesitant to jump on any really good deals.

Just be sure to check the sellers feedback - not only the amount, but also the type of items and the prices, and the dates. If it's a hundred 0.01c items in the week before he posts 99 star destroyers for sale, well, decide for yourself ;)

It looks like there may be a problem with the hacking of UK Ebay accounts, which everyone should be aware of.

A couple of nights ago a UK seller suddenly advertised 6 x Falcons as a 'Buy it Now' for about £180 inc delivery. I immediately thought it was too good to be true, but when I looked at the feedback it looked very convincing (longterm seller, occasional reasonable value sales over a long period) and I'll admit that I was really tempted. However, within a couple of hours Ebay had pulled the plug on the listing; I was so glad that I resisted temptation!
