Roger Rabbit Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 This happened so quickly I never got around to supporting it!! I will send an email Lego's way to let them know though. If this doesn't happen, I'll be extremely gutted as it such a brilliant set and idea. In fact, I want it. I want it now!! Congratulations on getting this far and good luck for the future. And now to go and watch the film in your honour. Quote
Yatkuu Posted March 31, 2012 Author Posted March 31, 2012 As somebody pointed out on the CUUSOO page, there is another reason to rejoice... the Win did better than Minecraft! Minecraft ended up with 10,005 supporters, the Win got 10,007!! Ooooh yeah!! (sorry, I could not help it ) Quote

It is amazing how many votes this got just in the past few days! Quote
Solscud007 Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 (edited) I think that the "bar" issue us only a matter of marketing spin. Rather than a "bar" it can be called a pub or "quaint British eatery" there is more to the Winchester than just alcohol. Now that I think about it, the name might have issues from a licensing problem. Winchester is a trademarked name. Even the movie makes a nod to the firearm manufacturer. Maybe Lego just doesnt call it Winchester. Another consideration is licensing "Shaun of the Dead". Hopefully Lego and the owners of Shaun of the Dead can come to an arrangement. I know that Superman has ownership issues and that is why we have yet to see a movie after Superman Returns. Warner Bros does not own Superman anymore. Macross has had its share of legal strife with determining licensing rights in Japan and the rest if the world. Anyway this is a stupendous moment really for us. Thanks to Yatkuu for sharing the experience with us. I don't remember this much insight with the other Cuusoo projects. Edited March 31, 2012 by Solscud007 Quote
lorax Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 Congratulations Yatkuu. You deserve to have this happen, your build was brilliant and I can't wait to see what happens next. Quote
LEGOMAN132 Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 This is great news also the pub might look great with the modular buildings. Quote
joeygunns Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 Congrats! I don't think it being a "pub" is the problem, I think because its a zombie movie with a high amount of blood and gore. Quote
zenda Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 Congratulations. It's very cool composition indeed. Quote
Larrynautik Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 (edited) Another consideration is licensing "Shaun of the Dead". Hopefully Lego and the owners of Shaun of the Dead can come to an arrangement. Notch, the creator of the "other" video-game, agreed to the CUSOO project, and permited to the Lego company to design and sell a set based on his universe. Do not forget that the brand company will gain 1% on each box sold... without taking any financial risk ! I see no reason for Shaun of the Dead to refuse such a deal. They only get to take the money and most of all, a lot of fans will thanks them. I'm really glad to see that this project I recently decided to support reached the 10.000. I'm a big fan of Lego City and this basement will fit perfectly in a city display. Figs and weapons are interesting too. (There is a problem with the name of the video game Notch created ? Every time I post something with its name in it, I get this ---> LEGO reports a loss ) Edited April 1, 2012 by Larrynautik Quote
goldfish Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 You know I think I am most pleased about this as I was getting a bit sick of the three line whip the lego community was imposing on voting for the Western Modular set. Yes that was a nice model and well done, but it was getting pushed from all angles and its nice something has come from nowhere and properly captured the imagination. Well done. Quote
caperberry Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 there is more to the Winchester than just alcohol. Try telling that to the English You make a good point about spin. Whilst pubs in south London are rarely quaint eateries, this could actually be made a wiener - that the lawyers won't let them call it a pub and they come up with a ridiculous euphemism instead. roamingstop Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 (edited) It is great to see such a good mic get so far. Hopefully TLG will mAke it as is: but probably it is better to split the set to make it appeal to more age groups. Adults would buy the 'winchester themed corner shop' which has same look and feel. The kfol would like a nice corner shop. An extension to the monsters theme could see a new realm of shaun and zombie characters. Those in the know would have no difficulty remaking their favorite scenes. Kids would love the slightly macabre theme of zombies and monsters... In the end 10'000 adults can't be wrong but this set has to also appeal to larger younger audience. HowEver it still worked for LEGO reports a loss - whatever that is (afaik some silly computer game about building blocks) Edited April 1, 2012 by roamingstudio Quote
Zzz Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 See you at the WInchester! Congrats, mate! Looking forward to get my copy of this! Quote
Darth of Soals Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 Really good MOC, Well done, And look forward to maybe seeing it on store shelfs soon! Quote
Sir_Basil_Ashton Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 Congratulations on your triumph. I've been quietly following this thread and I can't wait to hear the updates. Quote
The Blue Brick Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 Congratulations once again. After sitting down and getting the license, when would the set come out. How long does it take to do all the agreements and changes to the set if needed. Anyways, I love it and can't wait to own it myself. Blue Brick Quote

custard_farts Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 Fantastic effort by the creator. Read about this proect a lot of places and celebrity power has shown a way in this. I know that iff it does get made the model will be much changed but you can't win if you don't play the game. Very well done. Quote

Thanks to Yatkuu for sharing the experience with us. I don't remember this much insight with the other KOOOZOOOO or however the megabluck you spell it projects. There's a Superman movie coming out in 2013 starring Henry Cavil as Superman and Russel Crowe as Jor-El. I really hope Lego approves this set because this probably the only KOOOZOOOO or however the megabluck you spell it I would buy. Quote
The Fezter Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 What has been accomplished with this set has been amazing. Credit to the creator. Alas, we were discussing this at work yesterday (work being Lego Shop Bluewater) and we are worrying that Lego may not put it forward into production because of their stance on violence etc. We do want it though, because I'm sure we would have many customers interested. It would give the stock range something nice and interesting for the adults. I really hope that Lego just get it straight into production. Quote

mrklaw Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 - cuusoo is designed to allow smaller runs of community builds - it doesn't need kids to buy it or to sell large volumes. - I don't see a pub being an issue as other sets have taverns/inns - I don't see zombies being a problem, other sets have zombies - licensing will most likely be more of an issue, but fingers crossed Simon Pegg has the rights to this and can get those cleared. Yatkuu Posted April 2, 2012 Author Posted April 2, 2012 Hi guys, I quickly wanted to thank you all for these great feedbacks. I am truly honored to be a part of this community. The debate around this project is certainly not over and I'm trying to keep an eye on the various discussion forums or on the CUUSOO page that still gets a lot of comments and hits due to the media coverage. I know that some of you are helping me defend the project and I also wanted to thank you for that. - licensing will most likely be more of an issue, but fingers crossed Simon Pegg has the rights to this and can get those cleared. So far I did not get any direct contact with Pegg, Wright or anyone behind the production of the movie but I would just like to mention what Simon Pegg said on his twitter: “By the way, if by some miracle the Shaun Lego did go into production, me and Edgar do not stand to gain anything. We have no stake in merch. » « By that I mean, there is no ulterior motive other than the sheer coolness of it. It ain't the Benjamins, it's the bricks. » On Brickset we can read today the "Winchester Dilemma" or the fact that LEGO would be "damned if they do, damned if they don't". It's a healthy debate and I understand that - we - as LEGO passionates, feel concerned about these questions. Just to clarify my motives, I never did this to corner LEGO in a difficult situation. When I posted this on CUUSOO back in January I almost immediately took contact via email with the CUUSOO rep to get a pulse of how they felt about it. Their message has been pretty much the same all along – no guarantees, but go ahead. So I did, and I got (very) lucky. I was discussing the matter with a friend and this came out: “"No point in making the project phase only for adults if they're going to apply the kid filter on the product stage." – That’s a pretty good point IMO. I consider myself a true LEGO fan, always have been. My creations simply grew up with me, I am a fan of the zombie genre and sub-culture associated with it so I mixed my passions. I know very well that it’s on the edge but I tried to do it with taste. In my opinion CUUSOO is a platform to pitch for new ideas and catch the new trends. So yeah, it’s different than what LEGO usually does but it’s the point. Explore new territories, not do the things as LEGO would, they do that very well on their own! Quote
