CMP Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 So who'll be brave enough amongst us to point the first finger to someone? Unless someone screws up like a black monster cue artist or a feline felon in some futuristic novels I've read, we'll surely have a difficult time picking a random sacrificial lamb amongst us today. But I'd rather follow this strategy rather than to let this day pass without gaining valuable info on people's behavior. [*] Any reference to previous games or “games... of life”, potatoes, books that people may have read, and films or plays that people may have seen will be treated most harshly. Well excuse me, greaseface. You know we weren't supposed to bring novels on this trip. Perhaps we should try examining behavior like others have mentioned. Random lynches sacrifices aren't a guaranteed help in this situation. You act as if doing so will give us valuable info on people's behavior. It has a chance to get a cultist, but I don't think it would be easily noticeable who they were, since I'm sure at least a few would be against random sacrificing in the first place. If we were being forced to vote or die, yeah, a random sacrifice would be necessary. But it's not here. We can choose otherwise. Whether we will or not has yet to be seen, clearly. As for myself, standing to the side isn't a viable option. But choosing one of us at random isn't easy. Likely somebody will screw up somehow and the votes will pile on them. I almost half-hope the gods aren't lenient with you, it'll make a random sacrifice easier to decide if somebody has penalty votes already. Perhaps I'm being a bit harsh here, but honesty hurts like a scorpion sting to the balls. What are everyone elses' thoughts on all this? I'd like to get somewhere today.
def Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 So who'll be brave enough amongst us to point the first finger to someone? No worries, I'll do it if nobody else gets around to it. I may just start with Stools, just for the heck of it
Brickdoctor Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Who the heck is this samurai-alien that keeps talking from time to time? What is this, Halloween? Do we have Halloween with all the costumes in 1936? We've known of people celebrating Halloween with costumes since 1895. Characters from literature and radio are popular right now. I'm with those in favor of a lynch Today. We're not going to succeed if we don't take risks. Do note, however, that a majority vote isn't needed for a lynch, so even if we aren't unanimous in our voting designed to test behavior and responses, chances are that someone's going to get lynched, if not only because I doubt everyone will be awake in time to unvote. In light of that, choosing a random person to vote for, even if it is only to test behavior and responses, isn't the best idea.
def Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 We've known of people celebrating Halloween with costumes since 1895. Characters from literature and radio are popular right now. In Egypt? On an expedition?
Brickdoctor Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 In Egypt? On an expedition? Probably not. I'm just pointing out that the practice of celebrating Halloween in a costume is not unprecedented. I do find it curious that you've chosen to respond to the portion of my statement that has little to no relevance to the task presented to us.
Zepher Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Patrick Fitzwilliam probably doesn't find a need to respond to your talk of who we are feeding to the stone. He seems to have people in mind, and he seems certain he is accusing someone. Do not mistake me, I agree with him in this regard, but I don't think he feels that he needs to restate his opinion on the matter over and over again.
def Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 I do find it curious that you've chosen to respond to the portion of my statement that has little to no relevance to the task presented to us. Maybe because I was one of the ones who helped start all the talk about voting today, I've made a number of clear concrete statements on the position, and I don't need to repeat myself. But feel free to find that curious if you think that's detective work I don't think he feels that he needs to restate his opinion on the matter over and over again. Great minds think alike

JimBee Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 So when's lynch lunch? Aloysius is getting hungry again. Nadir is also in favor of voting for someone, though just like everyone else he doesn't know who to start with. The chef did volunteer himself, though Nadir hopes he has enough Fiber One bars to last the rest of the journey with no cook.
XimenaPaulina Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Well excuse me, greaseface. You know we weren't supposed to bring novels on this trip. The reference was supposed to be a joke, and was not meant to take advantage and/or pin down someone (metagame) milady. I apologize if you felt (surprisingly) sensitive about what I said Ms. Stools. I could surely tell by your ravishing looks accentuated by that sexy little mole in your supple pinkish cheek that you have nothing to do with those weird novel characters I've mentioned. I'll whole-heartedly take whatever "harsh treatment" the gods decide to put on my head. I maybe grease-dirty but my conscience is clean. And I agree having the penalty votes on me would somehow move us forward in reading people's behaviour so I very much welcome such penalty. And did I say you look hot? Even hotter than this damned weather in the desert.
Hinckley Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Sounds pretty clear to me. It'll end at the set time, unless we're unanimous. And we shouldn't be unanimous on day one unless this town is full of sheep But you're adding the word unanimous. I don't see it in there. See the difference? My fear, which my be complete paranoia, is that Is and Ossie will just toss the wrong person in Imhotep's mouth because we've reached a majority (I realize it's not a majority vote, but the question is since the most vote is the lynched one, is a majority vote the end of the day??? Or can we have as much time to overturn it as would be afforded to any day). The difference between what you're interpreting the rule to be and what I'm asking is "What do Is and Ossie consider agreed upon?" Do they mean a majority or do they mean someone has the most votes but the topic has gone stale. What if we're quiet for 24 hours? Do they close it even though there's time left to vote? Or does that majority cinch it for them? I'm asking Is and Ossie for clarification anyway, so thank you for helping me clarify the question, but I hope they can swoop in and clear it up before any of us any each other over the question. Obviously, we're going to be taking a risk if we vote for someone to be fed to the rock. However, I'm confident that if someone has a 'Nocturnal Skill' as you called it, and that person has quite a few votes on him or her, then he or she will definitely reveal it to the public in hopes that we can all overturn the bandwagon in time (which is something I'm pretty confident we can do). No responsible townie with a 'Nocturnal Skill' would take it to the grave without telling anyone. I'm not sure how but we need to be careful about that too. Forcing a townie to reveal their Nocturnal Skill could result in them being blocked the entire game and not able to help. So if we choose a townie with a fantastic Nocturnal Skill, they may be doomed either way. We want to keep those skills as much as we want to see voting patterns. People are bound to learn things during the night even if there is no lynch. On the other hand, even if a Nocturnal Skill is revealed, the Cultist blocker will be focused just on one Townie leaving all other Nocturnal Skillers to do their Action freely. I should take a break...
Hinckley Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 My, this is ever so fascinating! Though I have to wonder: why would someone construct a face out of rock that's specifically designed to eat people? I'm not sure how that would benefit anyone. Unless it's a supernatural being that has always existed on this rock face. But then why would someone build a temple around his face? Did he demand they build a temple around his face? Or did the people build a temple around his face in order to - Oh look! A pebble! I think I'm in love! What do I say to her? I should play it cool. But what if she starts looking at other guys? Maybe I should offer to make her some balls. Scorpion balls of course. Sounds weird, though. Maybe I shouldn't say it. Wait...am I talking out loud? Unless someone screws up like a black monster cue artist or a feline felon in some futuristic novels I've read, we'll surely have a difficult time picking a random sacrificial lamb amongst us today. But I'd rather follow this strategy rather than to let this day pass without gaining valuable info on people's behavior. Someone didn't read the rules very carefully. Maybe because I was one of the ones who helped start all the talk about voting today, I've made a number of clear concrete statements on the position, and I don't need to repeat myself. I didn't mean to make it seem like I was overly annoyed - I'm sure that whoever those characters were knew how absolutely idiotic they had been going about their situations. And yes, I'm sure some reactions could at least be gauged from this event. Least of all, mine. And yes, I am quite aware that it is very hot here. And in several other places I shan't mention outside of behind that rock over there. Meet me over there in an hour and you can show me all about those engine lubricants you kept speaking of the whole ride here.

Making accusations is a safe place to avoid the vote from... I think it's safe to say this guy has a good chance of getting my vote day one, for a few reasons: starting off with a bunch of spam posts; when he starts talking about things, he mainly obsofucates the rules for everyone, rather actually ask the host; making stuff up about me, since I haven't insulted anyone (yet), so I think that's a weak attempt to irritate me; and jus generally looking like he's out front enough to be town without being useful But there are others worth looking at. Not me of course, I'm utterly innocent, in case you haven't heard

You assume I'm too stupid to understand the assumption in your head about the day length rule when I had a legitimate question and you took it personally for some reason, deciding to continuously answer my concerns as if they were some affront to you. Yes, you are smug and you are finding a lot of people to be suspicious of over nothing. Being suspicious of you is totally legitimate at this point. I don't expect you to agree but as long as we are discussing who to vote for I do believe people should consider that you may not totally be on the level... I'm spamming and out front to look town without being useful? Tell us, oh useful one, how should useful people behave? And I'm a spammer too? OK, everyone no more fun in this game. This is serious business. Fun and jokes annoy the high intellect of Fancypatrick FitzWilliampants or whoever. Whatever. I'm going to go eat my balls.

Reminds of a book I've read about.... Oh wait, I better stop now.
Ricecracker Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 While we are in a most unfortunate situation here, I do have faith that God will guide us through this. I understand we have not much to go on, I believe that we'll be able to figure out what to do later today.
Zepher Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 ...little mole in your supple pinkish cheek that you have... Why would you mention that?! Oooh... things are gettin' tense over here eh? Fitzwhatever and Mehmet gettin' feisty over each other this early! Reminds of a book I've read about.... Oh wait, I better stop now. Reminds me of EVERY book I've read. Dolts. The two smart folk always take each other out instead of working together. There can only be one and all that. Whatever. It's their funeral when they fight over nothing, though they sure ain't doing the rest of us any favors by doing it.
Hinckley Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 The two smart folk always take each other out instead of working together. Flattery will get you everywhere... Where did you want to go? Fitpatrick Williamson is acting suspicious, in my opinion. He has expressed suspicion of me. If nobody else sees either one of us as suspicious, then we'll move on. Just observing and reacting. If he votes for me, so be it. If others join in, I'll do what I can to make the best decision for the Town. I have no solid leads. I have vague suspicions based on ghosts of past lives. My religion believes in Kharma and reincarnation, whatever I am, so I'm not metagaming, just listening to the whispers of the past, which isn't necessarily a good idea. Definitely not strong enough to mention at this point.
CMP Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Someone didn't read the rules very carefully. I bloody well- ...Oh. I'll be there sweetie... And oooh, oils and lubricants certainly are my thing, they don't call me Slick Gordon B. for nothin'. Oh...I thought 'Slick' was short for Slickingstein the Second or something. Some people here have very odd names. Reminds me of EVERY book I've read. Dolts. The two smart folk always take each other out instead of working together. There can only be one and all that. Whatever. It's their funeral when they fight over nothing, though they sure ain't doing the rest of us any favors by doing it. I couldn't agree more. This is day one, Mr. Gerald. Everyone is entitled to a bit of tomfoolery. When it comes down to it, yes, most conversations should have a point. Everyone is certainly thinking about today and the days that will follow, even if they don't say it. Let's all just calm down some and listen to some of my poetry while munching on scorpion balls, yes? From what I've seen so far, most of us are edging towards a random lynchifice. Unless something terribly important pops up, I think we should consider those who've said nothing so far. Of course, I DO know some of us have things to do around the camp, so I'm happy to wait a day or so, but being proactive is healthy for all of us.
Sandy Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 I do believe that we will have to make a sacrifice today as well, but how exactly would we ensure that a random lynch is actually random? How are we going to draw the lots? Oh, and in case we're doing the "not it" thing, then... Not it!
fhomess Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 There seems to be a lot of discussion about rules and whether or not we should vote to sacrifice someone. I'll point out that Is and Ossie have stated that we may vote and unvote as many times as we like. Therefore, if someone wants, they can vote and unvote immediately. This seems a bit pointless to me, and would kind of defeat the primary purpose of the vote, but it's a potential for people who feel that a vote is stronger than just a stated opinion. That said, I will be casting a vote when the time comes. I don't yet know for whom it will be, but I just feel that an actual vote is the strongest and only way to really get people to have the level of discourse needed to draw the best conclusions from. At least, I believe that will be true to a large extent for any cultists, who are likely to want to avoid answering anything directly unless they absolutely have to. Lastly, I'd like to point out that while the rules do not state that there is a penalty for not voting, they also do not state that there is no penalty for not voting. In light of this, I am not going to assume either to be the case until Is and Ossie state one way or the other, or someone actually puts the ruling to the test by not voting.

Votes have many uses beyond lynches, and I wouldn't underestimate their power. Unlimited unvoting is definitely a plus. I doubt anyone's going to go around voting and unvoting lots of different people just because they can. Wishy-washy voting is a Scum tell that's easy to spot; players should recognize that they risk being killed if they do it, so they should have good reasons if they continually vote and unvote.
badboytje88 Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Could Mr Patrick Fitzwilliam maybe explain how he got us in this mess and how he will be getting us out of this mess. I'd like to remind you all that he is here for his expertise in organizing expeditions like these. Makes me wonder if all his expeditions ended with human sacrifice...

How can you tell Mr. Fitzwilliam is being suspicious over nothing? Perhaps he has indeed picked up on certain traits associated with those dasterdly Cultists hiding in our midst. Whatever he may have observed, it seems you are quick to religate them to paranoia. As to this business of the end of the voting period, I find your incessant repition of the matter bordering more upon a facade of concern than true usefulness and thus agree with Mr. Fitzwilliam in his appraisal of your assistance in solving the difficulty at hand. I have full confidence that Ossie and Is will settle the matter I due time. Now, if there is some murderous no-good-doer out there just waiting to 'any' me during the night, then I am not going to let them waste our precious time with fun and games fiddle faddle.
