Since I am building upon an already existing MOC I have to just keep buying more. However one day a few years from now, I will take it all apart and move onto something else. Also we have to take into account collectors who never even MOC at all. Some people spend loads on LEGO just to keep the sets as they are. I couldn't do that, but I would think that us MOC builders are actually the minority of LEGO fans. It's not every day you see a model of that size. That's one heck of a castle! I have participated in building large layouts of several square meters, but they were collaborative projects. I obviously understand that not having models on-line doesn't mean you don't have them. I do enjoy sharing mine, although I too don't really enjoy photography. Thanks for the comments on my models. I realise that some people collect the stuff, but never quite understood got the attraction of doing that. From a very young age, any set that I'd get would be together for at most a couple of days before the bits were used to make something myself. The only sealed boxes I have sitting around are about a dozen -mostly 2011's acquisitions- that I haven't gotten around to parting out yet. I don't know whether builders are a minority among AFOLs, but I do have the impression that we're the minority on Eurobricks. Cheers, Ralph Quote

I have given a few pieces and minifigs away to friends but otherwise I still have it all. Where does my LEGO go? A majority goes into storage for future projects; my mind is always planning. I hope those plans come to fruition or else my car is sitting out in the snow for nothing. I'm the same way! I will give, but not sell... though I unfortunately haven't gotten to the same level or scale as building as you... but I hope to! that's a great castle. Quote

Luckily I picked up the entire PotC line, the new Falcon, 2 boxes of collectable minifigs and a few random sets. I'll say around $1000 plus or minus $100. Quote

Since the collection has quintupled in size, I decided it was best to get those that were NIB or not in the layout out of the attic, box up the layout and use that room for climate controlled storage until I can move them into a much larger room for a new layout. Parts from BL do go into small, relatively simple MOCs Quote

Well, let's see, I bought 10 $11 dollar sets, 6 $20, 6 $30, 4 $40, 7 $50, and about 7 over that price range, so (Drumroll), my grand total is: About $1,300. Not quite as large as some of the figures in this thread, but still large nonetheless. Unfortunately, that will just skyrocket this year with LotR, Dino, and Superheroes adding onto Ninjago, HF, and SW. Quote

As expensive as this year could be, I don't have to backtrack and pick a lot of older sets like I did last year, so this year could be significantly less expensive. But setting a budget and sticking to it would guarantee a more sensible year. But if people set up budgets, Lego might go out of business since no one would overextend themselves getting these awesome sets! Quote

We don't even know what is coming out in the fall yet. The one thing I never want to do is not buy sets that I later will pick up on the secondary market at a large markup. Mistakes like that make my LEGO spending that much worse. Quote
