-A Steampunk theme. Lots of clockwork robot monsters and nifty imaginative vehicles, and a blimp base for the good guys! Lots browns and golds, with a primary color or two for the kids. Minifigs that look like the rocketeer and vehicles that look like the giant spider from Wild Wild West(yeah yeah, I know, not the best example)

I wish Lego would do something like this. I've mentioned before that I think the Ninjago Destiny's Bounty ship is very steampunk inspired, and it seems to be very popular with kids from talking to my local Lego store worker. He said they are having trouble keeping it in stock at the moment.

*edit: I don't know you guys, but I was a kid in the 80s and even then we all hated those old sci-fi concepts because they felt terribly outdated. Only as an adult I was able to give them some appreciation

Speak for yourself. I liked all the old sci-fi stuff as a kid in the 80s. I also liked a lot of the new stuff during that time as well.

I think a theme not unlike Godzilla would be cool. You could have brick-built giant monsters attacking cities. Then you would have various groups similar to the Alien Conquest ADU with specialized equipment to fight them. I'm thinking giant mechs that the humans can pilot as well as helicopters, hovering spaceships, tank type vehicles with laser cannons, mobile HQ, etc. In fact it could have been a continuation of Alien Conquest with a new faction of aliens bringing giant space monsters to do their fighting.

Definately a new secret agent theme

I was thinking a Top Secret Goverment Agency vs a corrupt agency.

Agents was a good theme :cry_sad:

I would be a huge supported for something involving any of the aforementioned:

Cavemen: it would be brilliant to reuse some molds from the Dino theme. Plus, it would help out with them doing them in the CMF.

African savannah: Brilliant again. The different animal molds would be awesome. I like my daughter's Duplo animals. If only they weren't as cartoony.

Adventure-esque set in a different time/region: Again, this would be great to get some variety.

Jungle: Anything for more foliage! But with the new forest fire sets, you get maybe a tree trunk and some flames. So I doubt TLG would be willing to give us easy access to foliage pieces.

First off you have a conflicting title and opening statement.

Title: Action Themes

Statement: Licensed Themes

For Action Themes, I’d love to see Steampunk. Simply for piece selection. If you translated that into Licensed Themes you’d looking are Jules Verne, Sherlock Holmes, and/or Firefly/Serenity etc.

Other Action Themes, I think 1492 series would be cool, a little Inca & Spain action. And of course go further back and do a Romans vs. Persians Theme.

Licensed Themes though I’d still love to see Lego do X-Men, Star Trek, or Battlestar Galactica, G.I. Joe would be killer, and The Chronicles of Narnia.

The Chronicles of Narnia would be a smart move personally because the movies are in production and they’re only on book 3 or 4 out of 7.

I'll hop on the bandwagon here and agree that a steampunk theme would be FANTASTIC - provided it was done correctly. I've noticed that modern non-licensed themes seem to carry a friendly, child-like atmosphere. Alien Conquest was full of cheese (which was fine, for that theme), Space Police had a distinct cartoony vibe, Dino and the upcoming Monster Fighters have generally cheery atmospheres given how dark those sci-fi worlds usually are.

So that kind of begs the question, how the hell do you make a steampunk theme kid-friendly in the same sense? More importantly, how would you explain the marketability of a cartoony steampunk theme to LEGO?

Unfortunately, I think a steampunk theme is pretty far-fetched. Much as I'd like to see one. :sceptic:

They could conceivably do this theme since they have deals with Disney already in place. They also have the new minotaur mold. They would need to do a centaur mold (which I would really want!), but they already have a horse mold, so a centaur mold couldn't be that difficult. And it has a castle like feel to it all, so that seems to do well with Lego.

I have wanted a centaur mold for soooo long! I don't know why LEGO hasn't done it since it'd be so easy to modify the horse mold to accomodate minifigure torsos.

I'd love any theme that would introduce centaurs into the LEGO universe.

Oh, Smallpox Arrives to the Andes would be a killer set! Or not? Considering how many civilizations fell and millions of lives were lost, it would not be an easy theme to depict... Who would be the bad and the good guys? I don't think TLC would be ready for a completely morally ambiguous theme.

The Chronicles of Narnia would be a smart move personally because the movies are in production and they’re only on book 3 or 4 out of 7.

AFAIK the film series is in the production hell at the moment, any continuation being somewhat uncertain. And Disney backed off after the second film, so that wouldn't help in the licensing. Not all of the seven books are as easily done as movies either (and the last one is horrible, in my opinion). But I certainly agree with SilvaShado on centaurs – any theme introducing them into Lego form would be great!

Maybe excluding that characters tend to often appear only in their underwear, I think for example Girl Genius is quite kid-friendly and rather light-hearted steampunk (or "gaslamp fantasy", as the authors would rather call their work). Also I've understood that the sequel series of Nickelodeon's Avatar: The Last Airbender will be markedly influenced by steampunk, so if it's not a popular theme with the kids at the moment, it will soon be...

Remember everyone, action theme...space stuff belongs in the sci-fi arena right ?

My suggestion, secret agent...only one though....a Bond style character or two male and female perhaps, but lot's of other spies wanting payback.

Remember, shaken not stirred !

How about a Lego INSANE ASYLUM to lock up anyone who thinks Ninjago was a good move?

First Ninjago 2012, then Future of Ninjago, and now this :hmpf:

Dude, Ninjago was a good move. Kids aged 7 plus, even into AFOL-hood like the theme. I know it's a mods job to say this, but you really need to stop this. Your offending a lot members, not to mention bumping threads to insult people. Seriously, please stop now before you upset even more people and their kids.

Back on the subject, I think maybe a new Orient Expedition type thing would do nicely. Plus, it can incorparate steampunk into it, too :cry_happy:

Thing is with this troll, is he feeds off people who ignore him :look:

But your quite right feeding him may not be the best idea.

Well, i'm pretty much out of ideas for action themes. Maybe i'll come up with more soon

I would love another Avatar Airbender series. I totally missed out on the two that were released. I did manage to get the ship at a decent price, but the air temple is way beyond my price range. :sceptic:

I like Narnia, but there must be a reason why they never get very far into the movie when they try to make the films. It may just not be that translatable to the big screen. Don't get me wrong, I love the book series and read it several times as a kid. I just don't think it does well on TV or movies. I do think it'd be fun as a LEGO series, but LEGO only licenses off TV and movies, not books - which is kind of sad because LEGO could promote reading with their toys.

I'd like any theme aslong as they bring out some new animal moulds, but hopefully not in the new style bear, that's so ugly

If it's a jungle/orient theme then the old elephant and a new tiger would be good.

I really wish I didn't miss out on Orient Expedition. I would love a new theme similar to that idea. And new animal molds would be great. The more the merrier. They should just release a lego zoo and be done with it hehe.

Is it too detailed ("un-Legoish") for your taste or is there something else wrong with it? I'm interested as I am myself quite liking the design of the bear, but haven't yet acquired it. I agree with you on the general principle that it would be great to get more Lego animals :)

I  the bear, but then I love bears.

Anyway, I think we might see a new Spy theme next, as the pattern has cycled through Underwater, Underground and now that Dinosaurs and Adventures have arrived (and also ended) it is due to appear. What we need is a new Bond film, that always excites people for spy toys.

Ninjago and Monster Fighters are the ones that do not fit the pattern as it was, but they are under the Action banner in plotline/theme. I suppose we will see what Monster Fighters brings to Action, but Ninjago looks to be a long runner.

I would love to see some more World Race like sets, but with Planes or even weirder vehicles to race. An arctic based adventure of some kind (Spies or Adventurers. Maybe something new?) but I can safely say that Underwater Action has been going on since I was a little 'un, we'll get some more soon enough.

A Lovecraft theme would be awesome, but will most likely never happen. I would love to see a Cthulhu idol in lego.

Maybe a detective theme though? A little Sherlock Holmes? That could even turn in into a late 1800's town theme, witch I would like very much.
