Odin's son Fred Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 It's a shame that Lego Universe didn't make it as I always thought sets from that "world" would make great action/adventure sets (and it covers several themes). A Lovecraftian theme would be great, especially if they did something along the lines of the Arkham Horror Boardgame (it's worth your time to look it up on Google) where a team of investigators, set in 1930/40, try to stop the summoning of some elder god. Granted TLG would have to change some names and kids it up a bit (and since we live in a real world where plushie Cthulhus actually exist I'm pretty sure it is possible to kids up this line some without it getting too bad) but the basic premise would still be the same. You could also slip in some steampunkish stuff in there even though it is past the Victorian age. Could be the future of the steampunk idea and some are rebelling against science with magic and trying to raise an ancient evil to destroy the science. Here is someones MOC that does a great Cthulhu rising scene (see if you can spot The Doctor and Rose in the scene). It would also be easy to put a Holmes like detective with the investigators. Lots of potential there to build some fun sets that I think kids and adults could like. Quote
Arigomi Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 Captain Planet. I honestly didn't think anybody liked that show, and for good reason. It's more about the cheesy nostalgic novelty than actual fandom. The idea is quite reasonable. Playmobil introduced a new theme for 2012 based on similar concepts called Future Planet. Quote
Mr_Malfoy Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 Themes I'd like to see (some wouldn't necessarily be under Action Themes perhaps): Pirates in Space: I was only half-joking about that. I think it could actually be quite cool, and it's not like it's an unheard of idea (Disney's Treasure Planet did it, though poorly). Just imagine a pirate spaceship with sails made up of solar panels, portholes with cannons that fire lasers and whatnot. You could have a robot monkey on board too. Done right, I think it could actually be a really cool theme. Western: I imagine the reason LEGO hasn't tapped into this more than it has is because of political correctness regarding indians. But you could easily make a Western theme that has sheriffs vs. outlaws and no indians. One set could be a duel in front of a saloon, another could be the sheriff's office/jail. A larger set could be a train robbery. Yet another could be a small gold mine being ambushed (akin to the Kingdoms Mill Village Raid set). I'd love to see a stagecoach robbery set. The possibilities are endless. Vikings: Not a new idea, but it'd be great to see a "realistic" vikings theme more akin to Kingdoms than the dragons/fantasy stuff they did in 2005. Jungle Adventure: Some kind of historic action-adventure theme set in the jungle featuring Incas/Mayans, temple ruins and such. They've done some stuff like this before, but not an all-out theme just based on this. James Bond: Okay, it wouldn't necessarily have to be a licensed James Bond theme, but rather a more classy kind of spy/agents theme. Tuxedos, casinos and classy old cars rather than that horribly tacky stuff they did most recently. Even if LEGO obviously is meant for kids, I think you could make a spy theme that appeals to kids and older. Greek Mythology: With the minotaur in the most recent Collectable Minifigures series and Poseidon appearing in the next one it doesn't feel completely crazy to think that LEGO might already be thinking of such a theme. A whole bunch of classic monsters appeared as Collectable Minifigures before they announced the Monster Fighters theme, after all. Anyway, there are loads of strange beasts and whatnot you could use for such a theme. Sirens, minotaurs, poseidon, one-eyed giants, serpents, etc. Shangri-La: A wintry expedition in the Himalayas to find the legendary Shangri-La, with Yetis and snow monsters as villains (or maybe another human, villainous team trying to get there first). I think that both a new Western and a Greek Mythology theme would be a big hit. Just think, Medusa = female Serpentine for Ninjago! Quote
Zibdas Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Something with elephants. In space. Man, I'd like me some elephants. Picture all the ways you could trick them out.... Quote
Laura Beinbrech Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Did someone say Pirates in Space? Oh yeah, I'm totally down with that! :D I also wouldn't mind a Jake Raines version of the Jungle Expedition and Oriental Expedition as well (why, oh why did you have to come out when I was on board a miserable US Navy Destroyer, Oriental Expedition?! ).... Behind the Camera Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 Recently, I was on Lego.com's forums, where I was reading several petitions to revive older LEGO themes. This gave me an idea. Why not create a LEGO theme that teams up characters from past LEGO themes for one major story? True, this may be too similar to "The Avengers" sets that will be coming out this May, but a few years down the road, LEGO will have the perfect opportunity to release such a theme. Not only would it satisfy legions of nostalgic fans, but it would also result in sets that are entirely different than anything before. Quote

Now that's an interesting idea, but I doubt that a weapon-less martial arts theme would sell very well... Now if they had different martial artists with traditional martial arts weapons associated with their country/style (i.e. Chinese martial artitst with a guang-dao or meteor hammer, Japanese martial artist with Naginata, nunchaku or samurai sword, etc) competing in a grand tournament, now that would be awesome! For added Shout Out potential, one of the time-travelers is a chef; he would be a Thyme Lord, complete with a punny name of some kind. (See the webcomic Reasonably Clever for info on Thyme Lords.) Lucanik-san Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 A licensed (or not) japanese robot wars theme would be the real deal, imho. Try to imagine the epicness of a LEGO Mazinga, a LEGO Daitarn III (here's a little help ) or a LEGO Jeeg Robot, along with Tetsuya Tsurugi, Aran Benjo and Hiroshi Shiba minifigs. But I know this is a little too much to ask, so I'd simply like some original concepts, too: new mechas (not Bionicle-looking or stuff) with new attacks, new transformations, new villains, new pilots and new suits. CM4Sci Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 (edited) Hey, uh, guys? I found some odd stuff. It's about some of the recent action themes we've had, but here: Brickipedia member 'Lego lord' made a blog late 2010 posting theme predictions. The blog is here. The blog lists "Alien Invasion" (Alien Conquest), "Monster Catchers" (Monster Fighters), and now "Polar Rangers" (Polar EXpress). All of these themes have been made. There is also an idea for a Mythology theme. Toth has made some neat Mythology designs (I believe he works at LEGO..) The same user also predicted LoTR and Lego Batman 2... Are we getting a Mythology theme sometime soon? -Sci Edited May 11, 2012 by CM4S Quote
Rufus Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 Are we getting a Mythology theme sometime soon? I'll merge this into 'Possibe new Action Themes'. Quote

Admittedly that is quite a coincidence if he was just guessing. Not that stranger things don't happen, but... Especially as both AC ja MF are quite novel themes for Lego, not simple rehashes. Quote
Algernon Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 There have been a lot of "mythological"-themed minifigs in the recent CMF releases. Reminds me of Monster Fighters, and how many of the monster figs are just modified versions of the CMF ones. I'd say this is pretty plausible, although it's far too early to know for sure yet. Quote
thornie Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 (edited) I will say this in every thread discussing new themes until I am blue in the face... TLG needs to make a Roman Empire theme. I know they never ever make historically accurate sets, so call the theme "Empires" or "Legions" or something like that. That would solve the problem of having an actual historical place being attached to the sets. They can can make the combatants the Barbarians, or Prince of Persia styles Arabians. Or, even cooler they can do Greeks, Spartans, or maybe even the mythological Gods. A Clash of the Titans styled theme. I know this might fall under the historical umbrella, but I feel these sets would work better with action like features. Things like catapults, balistas, or undersea or sky palaces for the Gods and what not. Edited May 11, 2012 by thornie Quote
Peppermint_M Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 I'll merge this into 'Possibe new Action Themes'. You sir! When did you have time to moderate! Who knows how people "predict" themes, but most companies have a four year plan and some employees love the anonymity of the internet and the noteriety/kudos one gets for breaking things first. Quote
Puck Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 (edited) Maybe a theme based on The Hunger Games...I just want to see a Doctor Who theme thats all... :'( I know I would buy them... Or maybe even a theme based on Dungeons and Dragons? -Puck Edited May 11, 2012 by Puck Quote
Zergos Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 I want to see Greek mythology like the Percy Jackson books! I think it would be cool to have all those different monsters and gods. Quote
Peppermint_M Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Ok, so speculation is great, but Media properties have to be lisenced. Seeing as the Hunger Games are a pretty brutal concept I somehow doubt TLG would make sets based on it. Secondly, Doctor Who toys are the domain of Character Options, hence their Character Building line of toys. Quote
DraikNova Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 I would want a theme completely about dragons. That is something we have never had before, and would obviously be EPIC! Quote
Faefrost Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 (edited) TLG traditionally likes at least one unlicensed action line. So I can easily see some sort of Heroes of Mythology type line. I am not sure what else is left that they have not delved into? Maybe some sort oh high tech scientist line? Think Fantastic Four or Challengers of the Unknown? So long as it didn't get to overtly political / environmental there could be something new there? Or we could always lobby them excessively for an Agents 3.0 line Edited May 14, 2012 by Faefrost Quote
adventuresinlego Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 I recently got an idea for a female-orientated Action series for Lego which I put up on Cuusoo, unfortunately no supports thus far, but that's ok, when I get more time (and over my sickness) I will make some more prototypes for it... Regardless, the story revolves around an agency of female Spies, not unalike Charlie's Angel's but instead run by an older woman with a prosthetic arm. I thought that this would be a great female alternative to Ninjago but a male alternative to Friends, whilst still giving us plenty of new female minifigures, also being spies they would have a couple of cool, new clothing options, and possibly even multiple options per set for the game play. I called it FEMME FORCE Super Spies, which is a dumb name, sure, but so is Star Wars when you say it enough times in a row haha. Heck, so is Buffy the Vamp Slayer and look how good that was, I digress. Anyone who has any ideas for this series, feel free to post a message to the project - http://lego.cuusoo.com/ideas/view/17422 Any supports will be warmly received with a *high five* haha but I'm not here to canvass, simply to share what would be my ideal Action series as it would give our collection a heap more female options. (too much testosterone in Legoland) Quote
Omega X Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 I would like something totally original. Not a remake of any theme, although that would be literally impossible. Perhaps an Egyptian theme. But with gods. The best option is to create a licence with the Kane Chronicles. Omega X Quote
Faefrost Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 I called it FEMME FORCE Super Spies, which is a dumb name, sure, but so is Star Wars when you say it enough times in a row haha. It may or may not be a dumb name. But it does have the ring of a name dreamed up by old white guys in an attempt to make a female centric comic series in the 70's and 80's... Which is what it sorta kinda was. Marvel Comics already owns that one. It was about a secret team of 5 or 6 female SHIELD agents working for Nick Fury, and led by his girlfriend the Contessa. As you can probably guess, Stan Lee Gave the book that name. Quote
