Posted January 10, 201213 yr Probably a common dilemma... I'm just getting back into Lego Technic, and now have a few sets.. Thing is a. do i start mixing the sets together (albeit in a more organised manner than when i was a kid..) - or b. do i keep the sets seperate and try and keep tract of the bits i use from each for my own creations... ??
January 10, 201213 yr I agree, option is allows you to keep your sanity. Also there are various sites that allow you to rebuild specific sets if you want to put the right parts back together again lol
January 11, 201213 yr Um... If you have the instructions for the A models then I don't see the need to keep track of the pieces or any other organization. Just build the sets if you want them to be built or it doesn't really matter if the sets are mixed. They are yours, use them whatever way you like... Lego is about the possibility of mixing sets, that "feature" is the most important one Edited January 11, 201213 yr by Lipko
January 11, 201213 yr My young son has four technic sets. They were all dismantled and kept in their tatty boxes. We encouraged him to mix them and sort out the pieces. It has given him a lot more scope in building. If your stuff is new there is no problem, but I have put all my studded beams together by colour. It is now very hard to find the yellow beams which were used on the 8275 bulldozer among all the older, but still perfectly yellow ones. My nice sharp 8466 black beams are now lost in four tubs of studded beams of varying sizes. Basically to rebuild the Lego models with the original beams is well nigh impossible for me. You just have to weigh up what is important. My dilemma: When the time comes to dismantle my awesome, loved and well used unimog, do I mix it all in, or keep it separated?
January 12, 201213 yr I have got every thing sepperated in boxes. Every set an own box. When I am using parts for a big moc, I use Excel in my laptop. By braking up the model I can sort out all the parts of the different sets.
January 12, 201213 yr Mix them, sort the pieces, save the princess, (whispers) save your mind! Seriously tho I guess it depends how many sets you intend to get. I foolishly waited till over 100 sets before I started to sort mine a few years ago, still haven't finished sorting!
