I'll try to be on around then, assuming something else doesn't come up. I've actually managed to live to Level 4 now, and I just picked up this sweet-looking gray robe thing from a random dude I teleported to, he got killed by a caveman looking thing and I picked it off. It's fan-maintained, but there is a very detailed wiki that has stats and drop rates for equipment, if you don't know what you've picked up. Quote

Yeah, my problem was that I could barely stand in one spot long enough to pick it up. There were a lot of baddies around that bag...I Nexus'd out as soon as I managed to stick it in my inventory. There were a lot of baddies around that bag...I Nexus'd out as soon as I managed to stick it in my inventory. Not a bad idea. Whenever I raid Red Demon chests (almost always requiring a second or two in lava), I have my finger on the Nexus key and I get out as soon as I get whatever's good in the chest. Are you on now? If so, which server? Quote

_JDB Posted March 25, 2012 Posted March 25, 2012 I remember playing this back in late 2010. I can't believe that the haven't added more characters since the Sorcerer. The new (to me) Oryx battle is pretty different than the one I remember (the round dungeon with the eight or so portals at the outer circumference with Oryx in the middle). (Aside) It's nice to see that the subreddit has grown too since I've played. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted March 25, 2012 Author Posted March 25, 2012 I remember playing this back in late 2010. I can't believe that the haven't added more characters since the Sorcerer. The new (to me) Oryx battle is pretty different than the one I remember (the round dungeon with the eight or so portals at the outer circumference with Oryx in the middle). The devs added Oryx's Castle to weed out the n00bs. The walls take a lot of Damage to break, there are Quiet grenade launchers everywhere, and the bosses are pretty tough. (with the Castle boss capable of throwing a grenade of sorts that can Paralyze and one-hit kill) It does a pretty good job of ensuring that the players who get to Oryx Chamber (which is unchanged) are mostly Level 20s who aren't dragging enemies onto you or spamming you with chat or trade requests. (though if you end up in a group that's nothing but n00bs and you aren't a pro, it's possible to get stuck in the Castle for so long that by the time you get to the Chamber, the players from the other groups have already killed him - Teleportation is disabled in the Castle) As for classes, there is talk of a Heavy-Bow class called the Ranger, but there's no sign of it being released any time soon. A lot of players were disappointed with the last three, I hear. (Sorc is basically an underpowered Wizzy with a spell that doesn't need aiming, Trickster is hard to control correctly without teleporting into a shotgun after the changes to its special, and Mystic is hard to harness if you don't know exactly what you're doing - personally, I'd rather kill an enemy that putting them in Stasis, anyways) Quote
Brickdoctor Posted March 26, 2012 Author Posted March 26, 2012 Skipper died of Blindness and shotguns, and I died of lag and stupidly running into three Medusa grenades not an hour later, so it looks like the EB guild has some leveling-up to do. So, should I still play Necro? I've got my training and Level 20 set ready, and I'll almost always turn a profit in Stat Pots playing Necro, but it seems more like I'm going through the motions than playing. Level up, get 4.75 Def, switch to T9/T4 set, hunt gods, Snake Pits, and UDLs, die, wash, rinse, repeat. The problem is that mine is an aggressive style that depends on long range attack, quick kills, decent Def, and healing in a pinch. Necro is the only class that fits the bill. I could always carry pots around with me, so...Archer, Wizzy, or Necro? Or give Mystic a chance for a change? Quote
K-Nut Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 I'd say try Mystic since I'm not a big fan of Wizzy or Archer. I'm keeping to my Necro for now, which you can always change back to. Quote
Bricksandparts Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 Ok, so I was selling some drops from oryx, and there was this n00b that kept trying to buy this great sword for a regular ring, and he had no business skills... After I sold the stuff, I got a robe of the master and a better skull from other people. So I've got some better equipment and got to laugh at a stupid n00b that could say nothing but 'nnnnnnnnnnnnnooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!' for 2 minutes. Quote

There are too many n00bs in this game. What'd you get from Oryx? I'd say try Mystic since I'm not a big fan of Wizzy or Archer. I'm keeping to my Necro for now, which you can always change back to. I gave it a couple hours' thought, and I remembered just why I like Necro so much: because Necro is awesome. I also realized that even though I can do godlands with any non-melee class, I have a very Necro-dependent strategy when I do Snake Pits and UDLs. (I circle-strafe while taking about 350 Damage total until the phase comes up where they spawn their minions, then I eliminate the minions by healing off them back to full HP - wash, rinse, repeat until boss is dead) So now I'm back to my beloved Necro. I did play Mystic for a couple minutes while I mulled it over - almost died because I put some ogres in stasis thinking I was healing myself. Quote
Bricksandparts Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 Oh wow, loved this: I got a Dragonsoul sword: http://forums.wildshadow.com/wiki/dragonsoul-sword so you know how that made a n00b feel to be turned down... Quote

Ah, I see. Was that from Oryx himself, or one of his minions? Oryx shouldn't drop T9 items, as far as I know. Quote

I'll have to admit that I wasn't so brave as to run up and fight Oryx. I just took what was left. Surprisingly, all but about 6 people died. The left entrance group was the only group that even got past the first stage. Quote

Oh, okay, then someone else probably got DSoul from the Castle or from somewhere else entirely, and decided to share the loot. All drops from Oryx are soulbound, requiring you to deal a certain amount of Damage to qualify for a drop, so if you didn't fight him, you can't get a drop directly from him. Quote

Bricksandparts Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 Arrr... After my long streak, I finally died. And we still need 22 fame for the guild hall upgrade... Fortunately, I have high tiered items in my numerous mules. Just 22 fame to go... Quote

Fortunately, I have high tiered items in my numerous mules. Just 22 fame to go... ...and, of course, my latest char finishes rolling with 22 Fame - but this one turns out to be the one with a good roll (a +26 HP roll ), so it looks that upgrade will have to wait. Is Guild fame just Fame from Guild members who die? If so, the moment my current char gets 20 fame (for the Class Quest), I'm so slaughtering him... Quote
