timslegos Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 I like the "snow" idea a lot. The carnival ride is interesting to, i guess i will have to research. tim Quote
Siegfried Posted February 11, 2012 Author Posted February 11, 2012 I suggest that the Eurobricks Technic Competition THEME be a "Carnival Ride". It's not something that you see modelled in Lego Technic very often, but it lends itself to the use of GEARS. I like the idea, but to me it's too limited in what people could actually make. Too many rides are just a spinning thing with balanced cars, with the Zippper... ...being one of the more complicated. I don't see a lot of potential for people add a lot of function other than a spinner and maybe a ram of sorts to lift an arm. an other idea for the challenge would be: "Ships, diving vessels and offshore working platforms" That's actually similar to what I wanted to do, (my idea was anything without wheels) so I might actually go for a derivative of that. But feel free to add ideas; this won't be the last Technic contest! Quote
Fugazi Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 Not that I have the talent to take part in a Technic competition, but I do have a theme suggestion -- everyday objects. Recreate a toaster, a washing machine, a typewriter, a vynil record player? There are many opportunities to integrate power functions and approximate the actual workings of common objects, and it would be interesting to see how Technic builders manage to recreate non-automotive shapes with the available parts. It would be a change from the sempiternal 4-wheelers! Quote
Technic Gearhead Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 Build your best version of a Lego 'flagship' model. Leave the theme or subject up to the builder. Have a maximum of 2500 pieces since that is just above the part counts we have seen in the past. Give the participants plenty of time to create some masterpiece MOCs and then we can all enjoy rebuilding them after the competition is finished. Quote
AndroTech Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 As you all know, some of the best MOC'ers on this forum, had made different kind of animals in the past, some of them more, some of them less technically sophisticated. I think you all agree, that every one of them was unique on it's own way. So I suggest, that the competition should be, to make any kind of animal, to be as live looking as possible. Quote
timslegos Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 I like the idea of anything without wheels. It allows for very broad entries. Although will it be to broad for the judges to compare say a working toaster oven to a bulldozer? tim Quote
Matt The Tuba Guy Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 personally, I would count tracks as a kind of wheels, so I don't think a bulldozer would be allowed. A Technic competition sounds great! I also like the idea of something with no wheels. I would probably make a tower crane. Quite difficult to get the balance right. I would also try and make it a 'kangaroo crane' that can automatically raise its height. The C model idea is also good. If everyone has exactly the same parts to build with, that would make the competition quite fair. Quote
