KMOI Posted October 13, 2006 Posted October 13, 2006 Articulation-Sorry, but this sucked. Seriously, can Tahu at least bend his legs?! Disagreed. I had (and still have) serious issues with people talking about "articulation" in Bionicle. Firstly, articulation was NEVER the main objective of Bionicle back when it started. It's always been (but to a far lesser extent after the "Metru" era) about playability. Not about making everything ball-jointed, but making things practical and fun. You know why I still like the original Toa over most of the offerings in the Metru time? Because there was a sense of freshness to it. No explosive numbers of Toa, fun and interesting storyline, and sets that were made for everyone. From the progressive Lego fan to the kid looking for new playthings at your local shop, the original Toa were for the masses. And for kids looking for a more challenging set, you had the Rahi, which were by no means pushovers in the storyline. To be honest, I despise what the Metru saga did to Bionicle. Suddenly, fans no longer wanted things that felt fresh and unique yet had no 360 degree movements for joints. (But then again, after the horror of the Toa Nuva legs, I don't blame them!) Still, nothing ever prepared me for the sheer fact that new fans and some older ones suddenly went ball-joint crazy. Believe me, I have nothing against "articulation", but when fans turn down something fun and unique (ala Voya Matoran) because it isn't another Metru-crane-glider frame Toa rehash, I snap. Oh, and for those who really like "articulation", you guys should check out that 52-points of articulation Spider-Man. After that, you'll never want to hear the word "articulation" ever again! :-D And back on topic. Yep, I'm throwing a party! I ever likied the campaign, mostly because I didn't exactly understand what rap and rock music had to do with a tropical island. It's like watching that medevil movie with knights and rock music booming at every jousting match. Sorry, but my "artistic mind" has limits! I may be able to draw a link between tough, gritty looking ad campaigns with Bionicle, but rock music? Not so much, I'm afraid. Quote
JINZONINGEN73 Posted October 13, 2006 Posted October 13, 2006 Firstly, articulation was NEVER the main objective of Bionicle back when it started. It's always been (but to a far lesser extent after the "Metru" era) about playability. True, but a BIG feature in playability is being able to dynamically pose something. I don't want spinning discs flying off their back, don't want a LAME punching action when I turn a wheel, don't want to pretend my guy's INTENTIONALLY loose-fitting mask got popped off and is now being overtaken by a small piece of rubber... Playability, at least to me anyway, is being able to pose. Why have a figure with ANY ball joints if it's purpose is a figurine with which to execute cheap gimmicks from? Why not just cast it in porcelain and stick it in a glass case with mint-in-box Barbie dolls. : / Launchers-Yes masks would be better, but the rapid fire launchers (no pun) really hit the spot! In a few ways, too. No useless, one-trick-pony gear boxes to launch spinners, no messing with the symmetry of mold to accomodate said launcher. And balls are just more fun (and quick) to launch. The launchers themselves can simply be removed if you think they're wonky... the figure is then left whole and symmetrical, with none of his body parts specifically crafted for it. The launchers themselves gave 3 good building parts... a rubber hose and the connector piece & axle you press on. In comparison, what building parts did the spinners, discs, krana, kraata or other junk give? Not much, and as said, some also had things crafted just for the play feature. Look at the Visorak... they put giant circles embedded in their back then cut a notch out on one side of their faces! Criminal... Quote
Dino_Bot Posted October 13, 2006 Posted October 13, 2006 Save the band was a questionable move by Lego...VERY questionable. At the end I'm left with two questions relating to each one... Was this done to sell more Bionicle? Or more All American Rejects? Rhetorical...But still arguable. This is exactly why I despise what music has become. The artists aren't there to be artists but to make money, and obviously Bionicle has followed that path, even thought there's no music involved. But back then, when it was revolutionary and...awesome, and had all that mystery feel to it, this was to have fun, possibly making a profit out of it, but now...Its just...meh. All the best toys have already been invented. And sadly, the age of Action Figures is over. Fun isn't the aim of toys anymore. And I'm a huge sentimentalist. I yearn for the 90's and early 2000's. vahkimetru Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 Had Lego gone just one step further in the bad direction, it probably would have temporarily killed Bionicle and AAR's sales. Quote
Darkness Falls Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 And sadly, the age of Action Figures is over. Fun isn't the aim of toys anymore. A-WHAT?! The Age of Action Figures... over? Yeah right! Toybiz is creating some of the greatest Action Figures ever! I hope you mean that the age of Bionicle Action Figures is over, because I would totally agree. You see, the uniqueness of the original builds is what made Bionicle good, and ever since 2001(that's right, 2001) Lego has been unable to reproduce the effect. If next year's sets are all clones, I'll stick to buying one per wave, because the lack of creativity in these sets is wrong. I'm not saying the original toa were perfect, but each had a different catch to them... Kopaka's shield, Pohatu's reversed torso, Onua's double tools and hunched appearance... that's what I want to see, not the same Piraka with a different tool and spine. Quote

xwingyoda Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 as the owner of bzpower eurobricks are a bunch of noobs how hang about trying to solve the quantum theory Care to explain yourself there ?? Try first to have a proper use of the English language to make your post easier to understand. Are you saying you are the owner of BZP ?? Who exactly are "noobs" and "noobs of what ?? OH well, I leave you with your failed humour attempt. *yoda* Quote
exo attack Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 I think this so called " Creator of BZpower " Is just a nobody with no friends or a sense of humour. *n* Quote
Zane Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 Heh, he sent me a PM trying to scare me. :-D For saying that the people on BZP seem to think this promotion storyline was real....I don't see how. Anyways, yeah, ban the little kid. *y* Or, y'know, whatever you want. Quote
Vader Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 Guys ignore this idiot, hes tillier under a new name and he wont be around for much longer. He can kiss his megablocks goodbye. Quote
GregF Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 as the owner of bzpower eurobricks are a bunch of noobs how hang about trying to solve the quantum theory That is not apropriate in any way as eurobricks is also a valid lego fan site. "Save the Band" is not any part of the official storyline. Quote
Lord Admiral Helden Ravensdorn Posted January 11, 2007 Author Posted January 11, 2007 Whoah! Greg-San! Let me be the first to welcome you to Eurobricks :) If you read about, you will, without doubt, understand my dislike toward the direction you have taken BIONICLE in, but do please try to understand that my feelings are limited to your work on BIONICLE and not to you as a person. Furthermore, I have, for the most part, moved on, and am working on my own version of the BIONICLE universe that I will publish to EB sometime this spring - a version that can suit my own tastes and content my own playing styule that does not need to tailor to any "Target Audience" ;) Lastly, please ignore that post made up top by the flaming troll, because that is all it is - a flame post made by a flaming troll :P Oooh... Maby he's a fire troll!? - Helden PS: Part of the reason I didnt like FTB was because it, like so many things 2006, WASNT canon. If theres 6+ different plot lines running in so vary many different ways, not only does it seem like NOTHING is canon, how is the fan supposed to know which is the one real storyline? Quote
Lord Admiral Helden Ravensdorn Posted January 11, 2007 Author Posted January 11, 2007 Since today at 12:47 AM, apparently ^_^ Quote
GregF Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 I am in a different time zone than most British citizens and I might not be very active because I am very busy. Quote
Starwars4J Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 Guys, this isn't the real guy. Since when would a "professional writer" consistently typo "busy" as "buzy" Sorry, not buying it. Quote

Zaktan of the Shadows Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 FTB was horrible I agree, but it is something you can get off your mind easily. Instead of bashing it, yoy should've ignored it. -ZotS Quote

Lord Admiral Helden Ravensdorn Posted January 12, 2007 Author Posted January 12, 2007 To the topic! Is it just me, or did the All American Emos (Yeah, we can tell why you're rejected) act kind of... um... embarrased in that last update? Quote
