Paul B Technic Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 I have made a slight change to the front of my 9337 due to me not being happy with how the hood was opening so far. Photos on my blog: http://mizibunktechnic.blogspot.com.au/2012/08/21082012-9397-hood-modification.html Quote
Cwetqo Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 I was commenting on DLuder's youtube video which shows the original model functions hidden behind a switch, what he could have done is fix another PF IR link in there instead. Would have made the model much more functionally cool :) And it's not even DLuders video, but one found on youtube so hopefully that youtube user reads this forum as well :) If you're feeling attacked, i'm sincerely sorry. Miscommunication is common on forums If I get the choice between the unimog and this one for virtually the same price, which one should I get? I'm liking this model very much but the possibilities of the unimog seem to be better with the pneumatics and all. I've got to choose between the crawler, which I'm getting later, and then this one and the unimog, which I can get such a discount on that it's virtually as expensive as this set. Get Unimog. Its much better set with a lot of functions, pneumatic, large tires etc... Quote
jadedomg Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 I put this model together last month and really enjoyed it. I liked the boom/crane as a alternative to the way the unimog crane was done with the pneumatics. More pneumatics would of been nice but I liked the way it functioned and it was the more interesting part of the build for me. I also love the tires they use on this set, they look to me the most realistic out of all the technic tires and the other set I have with them they just look good. My only real complaint is the front hood doesn't have a stop on it but I saw another thread here on EB where someone fixed that issue with a few parts. When I sit down with it again I will try to do the same thing. If I had as many spare tires as you guys, I defiantly would make the rear tires double stacked too! Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 If I had as many spare tires as you guys, I defiantly would make the rear tires double stacked too! I never did any thing other than mod the tires to mine...... And I have not done anything to my unimog ether than motorize it. My simple mod to fit double tires. Quote
shiretu Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 Hello guys, I'm totally new to lego technics world. I little bird told me that I will get this 9397 monster for my B-day. Needless to say, I'm already having wet dreams about it :) Now, I would like to have that awesome double rear end wheels with double differential. But, as i said, I'm new to lego technics. So I have a very basic question that no one else answered yet, nor I could find any answer for it on mighty google. And I did do a lot of search... So, if any of you knows, what is the *complete* list of additional parts needed? I would love to order those extra and get busy with it. I see that there is a PDF describing what needs to be done, bot not the extra needed parts. It would be nice to have that list with lego serials so I can actually order them Thank you for your help Quote
DLuders Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 @ shiretu: Designer Han has a PDF instruction (with list of additional parts needed) to perform a "Twin Wheel Modification" to the 9397 Logging Truck. Quote
shiretu Posted October 23, 2012 Posted October 23, 2012 Interesting. I saw that list of items, but, for example, it requires an additional 8 wheels. I don't think that is true. It should be only 4, right? Same goes for differentials: 2 of them required, instead of only one (we already have one). And I bet there are many other things in there duplicated. Any thoughts? Quote
stefan_betula_pendula Posted October 23, 2012 Posted October 23, 2012 You're right, with the parts list you can replace the original part completely. If you won't gather any spare parts you have to dissemble the rear part and check which parts you already own. Then you can order just the missing parts. Maybe someone who already built this modification can publish a list with the missing parts. That's the same case like the twin wheel modification for the 8258 he created. Quote
shiretu Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 @stefan_betula_pendula: Thank you for confirming my thoughts. So, there is only one way to do it: get the monster, build the front part of it than do accounting on the remaining parts for the back of the truck. I was kinda hoping that I could order the missing parts before starting to build it. Off topic: Are you from Romania? Quote
davidmull Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 Sorry old topic not by much tho :) is this set any good I'm thinking of buying as its one I missed? Quote
Samanen Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 I lke the set, but then again I pretty much like all sets that resembles a truck Functionwise it's not the best set and the design has some flaws but they are easy to fix. You get lots of gears, 6 wheels, panels and of course the m-motor and a LA and a mini LA. I think it's worth getting. Quote

They are at same price on bricklink. I am really getting a liking to Flatbed, because of the panels alone. Its like panel goldmine if you ask me. Quote
jadedomg Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 If I had to chose between one, I would chose 9397 just because I love the american style the truck has but 8109 is fairly neat with its functions as well, the rear wheels go closer to the ground as the flatbed tilts to pick up a vehicle and I enjoy that function more than the crane on 9397. It does have 6 black panels though which is nice but 9397 has the narrow long black panels which are also good! Overall I prefer the part selection in 9397 and the truck looks great. Quote

If you are looking for panels you should definitely go for the 8109. As jadeomg said the functionality of the bed is fantastic. However I don't like the wheels on the smaller trucks, they seem somehow out of proportion. Otherwise I like the looks of the 8109 better. It's a tough call as they are both nice trucks, I really can't decide which one would pick first if I had to choose. But I wouldn't like to be without either That was a relly good answer wasn't it? I guess you just have to pick the one that you like better. Edited January 18, 2013 by Samanen Quote

On the other hand logging truck has some nice parts. Bah.... ill just buy a set of "friends" and know my place! Quote
Interceptor Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 Sorry old topic not by much tho :) is this set any good I'm thinking of buying as its one I missed? I was thinking about the same too since it was released by TLG. Until today. I've just ordered it from a Hungarian toy shop because there was a discount on it. I know that it won't be as magnificent as 8868 Air Tech Claw Rig but I just could not resist. I like american style trucks and the functional part is not that bad... Quote
jadedomg Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 I tried(and failed lol) to make a dumper bed to replace the logging portion of the truck a while ago. I have a wanted list at bricklink that I need to buy some more stuff for so I can work on building my own mocs and modding this set is one of my first plans when I can get too it. I also wanted to buy more 'logs' because it does look kinda silly with just one log in it. Quote

Both of them have pretty good parts selection for a fairly low price. You just have to find the right place to buy them from because prizes vary a lot. I,ve seen the 9397 go from 74€ to 150€ depending on where you look here in Finland... So here's my best suggestion: BUY BOTH! (find a good deal first of course) Quote
