I checked the forum index and couldn't find anything regarding this issue with my EN. It's motorized with PF the way TLG wants you to in the instructions. But when the engine goes over switch track, it derails, everytime, it can run backwards over them but not forwards. The tender also de-rails sometimes when it goes around curved track, but it doesn't happen everytime. I'll try and upload a video as soon as I can if anyone can see what the problem is.

Try watching the train derail at a very low speed to see exactly what is happening. Anytime my EN derails, the position of the cord connecting the engine and the tender is the culprit. Make sure you have enough slack and it isn't twisted.

It almost sounds as if you didn't use the 12:00/3:00 wheel configuration, although that seems to cause sputtering. I don't believe my Emerald has ever derailed. Have you tested any other trains on your layout? Soc's idea to watch the train at very slow speed might help you determine what is causing the problem. That Emerald is a "testy" train.

I have had problems with mine derailing the tender when running backwards over the points. I think it was down to the cable though as fiddling with that seemed to fix the issue. It took a while to figure it out though as I was looking for a wheel thing until someone here mentioned the cable.

Which wheels are coming off the track? As others have said watch at slow speed and it might help to diagnose the problem if you could indicate whether all or just some of the engine wheels are coming off?

Hi There,

It is a while ago but I found something about derailing the Emerald. It seems a combination of facts. The motor of de RC and de driving rods. The driving rods can get stuck in the cilinder in curved tracks. On the internet was a small article about that with a modification of the cilinder and driving rods. Unfortenately i'm forgotten where it was on the internet.

The engines wheels come off in the middle, the middle wheel and the last one in the set of three comes off first, then the two front ones turn to the side and clomps it`s way around. I`ll probably take it apart and try it again later.

Try checking your surface. I had a derailing problem for an event and the culprit was a slightly curved table surface. This was enough to keep derailing the train on one side of the layout until we figured out the problem.

I definitely recommend pursuing the fixes that were discussed in railbricks (can't remember the issue...) Both worked beautifully for the other problems I've had with the EN.
