You have to remember that there are three years worth of new children who were too young for the 2009 pirates line, so this might very well be their first pirate minifig. So why not give them something classic? Three years is about how long it takes them to 'renew' a theme, so it makes sense that there would be a new pirate captain minifig now.

Also, the figure came just in time for the Pirate subtheme of Ninjago next year. They probably wanted to get out a standard Pirate before the specific Ninjago pirates. :sweet:

Wow.. I can't believe the similarities. They have these at the local mall and I hate when they take the CMF's place

I KNOW this is going to be the best series

I must ask - is your avatar NUDE, and what is she doing? :) :) :)

I know, I know, it is not cmf 8 related, but I was astonished with that minifig :)

Mostly everyone at the Ninjago Discussion Thread is 90% sure it's true (based on TV listings), but keep Ninjago discussion in the Ninjago Discussion Thread.

Those TV listings are 100% unsourced. The episode descriptions are almost certainly bogus, since they fly in the face of what we know about the show so far. And even if the episode titles are correct (and we have no primary source for those, either), pirates could easily be just one faction of next year's antagonists, or even TV-exclusive foes who won't appear in sets. It's too early to say for sure, but the information we do have is so unreliable we might as well have no information at all.

Even though Playmobil is clearly following in LEGOs footsteps on this, it's not like LEGO invented blind-bagged collectable figures. I see no problem with this.

The problem isn't the blind packaging, it's the same figures. Even the little circles that say "series 2" and "series 3" look like TLG's packaging.

It's true they have some figures LEGO hasn't done yet, but it's also true that most of them are figures already done in LEGO, and others are actually very much like the ideas of Boudon Alexandre.

As far as I'm concerned, though, immitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and if parents want to buy their kids that garbage, they can feel free to do it.

EDIT: sorry if I'm OT. I did come to the thread looking for something more than the pirate.

At long last, a picture has arrived! Whilst the pirate does look nice (I will get one for sure), it is a shame that he only has a printed beard rather than a moulded one :hmpf_bad: and that he doesn't have a parrot, also TLG seem to have gone over the top on gold, which looks daft on the hat and just plain wierd for the hook hand. Now it's just time for us to see the rest of them. With the time we've had to wait so far, I hope that the rest of the series are extremely special.

Lego has already done more than a hundred figures, it would be mindless for Playmobil to try to avoid using the same ideas. All things considered I think there's surprisingly few figs that could be construed as copied from Lego. Even the ones that are based on similar ideas (punk rocker, mariachi player, Cleopatra, geisha, ice hockey player, grenadier guard, Statue of Liberty...) are mostly realised in an original way that doesn't look like direct copying.

Besides, Playmobil is one of the very best toymakers around and quite far from garbage.

Not a fan of Playmobil but I seriously hope that we get a Lego Elvis in a future series like they released!

I might normally agree with you, but after looking at the image again my opinion stands... cheap, rushed knockoff that is obviously derivative (especially considering the "feature" they can be taken apart and reassembled with parts from other figures).

I know there has been discussion on those designs before, but I have to say, I'd especially love to see either the little goblin or the undead knight in Series 8.

Yes! YES! I've been waiting for a torso like this forever!

Now I can fulfill my dream of making Disney's version of Captain Hook. :cry_happy:

Thanks for sharing.

This might actually be Captain Hook, might it not? This may be more of a faerie tale or literature sub theme instead of simply a pirate.

I don't know of any Capt Hooks with beards though. Other than that perhaps...

The forestman from series one could very easily have been Robin Hood, instead his official name was 'Forestman'. I'd bet all of my pearl gold ingots that this character's official name is 'Pirate Captain'.

His beard is not nearly luxurious enough to have the name "Pirate Captain"!

Also, there's a lack of dodo and, most important, ham.

Unfortunately the upcoming Series 8 pirate doesn't look as cool as any of these:

How come I keep looking at this and expecting them to break out in a rendition of "In the Navy"? :sceptic:
