August 6, 201212 yr What else would you have called him? The soccer player fig is called the Soccer Player, and not Football Player. I have to admit that American Football Player would be a rather long name, though more accurate/exact, so I suppose they didn't have better options.
August 6, 201212 yr I have to admit that American Football Player would be a rather long name, though more accurate/exact, so I suppose they didn't have better options. Well no reason to differentiate it from another fig since he is the only football player. :P -Omi
August 6, 201212 yr Well no reason to differentiate it from another fig since he is the only football player. :P Ok, now you are just being silly. But this isn't probably the best place to argue on American cultural imperialism, or whatever, so maybe we just agree to disagree.
August 7, 201212 yr Ok, now you are just being silly. But this isn't probably the best place to argue on American cultural imperialism, or whatever, so maybe we just agree to disagree. I'm being serious. :P Lego called the soccer player the Soccer Player, not the Football Player. Therefore no reason to call the Football Player the American Football Player. -Omi

August 7, 201212 yr I'm being serious. :P Lego called the soccer player the Soccer Player, not the Football Player. Therefore no reason to call the Football Player the American Football Player. -Omi Actually, it's interesting to see what they've done in some other (non-English-speaking) countries. The German site calls the Soccer Player "Fussballspieler" and the Football Player "Football Spieler", borrowing the English name of the sport. Quite curious that the site didn't localize the name for the Soccer Player since they have done so with most LEGO soccer things in the past. I wonder if they were deliberately keeping the name "Football Player" available for if they wanted to introduce an American Football player. If so, I'm surprised they didn't localize the name anyway and then call the American Football player something like "Linebacker" or "Quarterback". Though I guess the actual terminology of the sport is probably pretty obscure in countries that don't play it.

Hi, as far as I know, there is no german word for (american) football, and I´m from Germany myself. So no need, to make a difference between football and american football here.
August 8, 201212 yr [bloggedcp][/bloggedcp] I don't get it. Edited August 8, 201212 yr by legomaniac83
August 9, 201212 yr I don't get it. That's ok. We are writing about the two new Pirate themed series 8 figs on the www.classic-pirates.com blog.
August 9, 201212 yr Series 8 has appeared in a sales catalog here in Hungary. Going to look it up tomorrow.
August 10, 201212 yr My views on each minifig. I will say right at the start that this is the series I've been most looking forward to. Santa: Ah nice. The old boy deserves a proper minifig, and looks utterly fantastic to boot. No complaints about the look, but honestly, how many of these would you actually want? As soon as I get a second Santa I'll be sighing with disappointment. Diver: I love this guy. He looks the part, and would be a perfect addition to a Victorian/Steampunk set. There's a spot on my Imperial Flagship waiting for him already. About time they had a purpose in their voyage. Vampire Bat: Can't say I see this guy as anything but ugly. Still, a cheap way to get those arms, so it's not all bad. Evil Robot: I missed out on the first version of this fig, but I can understand why he'd be disappointing to a lot of people. Personally, I think the deco job on him is a big improvement, and I wouldn't mind having a couple of these clanking about. Businessman: Yeah... there's a good chance this guy will be series 8's Graduate, and I end up tearing my hair out on the number I end up with. Still. Love the bowler hat. Conquistador: Love love love love love love this guy. God, he just looks fantastic. Brilliant deco, brilliant concept. Perfect for inhabiting my 17th century town, perfect for re-jigging as the Watch from Discworld, and it's ABOUT TIME we got that helmet again. And in gold! Just amazing. Can't have too many of these. Actor: Again, the more of these I get the better. I adore the deco, and the ruff is just fantastic. It'll be interesting to see where it gets re-used, in fact. The disappointment here is with the very common hair piece, but I can put up with that. Cowgirl: Ugh. No. Just no. Probably my least favourite fig of the lot. She's far too modern to fit into any western scene, and would only fit in perched on the back of a truck in some rodeo diorama. Can't help but feel the concept on this fig started as "re-use Wonder Woman's lassoo, then work out a fig to go with it". Lederhosen Guy: Um. Right. DJ: Looks good, and that headphone hair will be nice to have. Again, makes you wonder how it'll be re-used in the next wave. I think they missed a trick with those headphones actually - they're designed to look like Lego studs, but look too small and shallow to attach things too. A shame. Red Cheerleader: Yeah, a complete copout. Don't want this girl at all, have a feeling I'll end up with too many. And is that the long ponytail hair again? Grrrrr. It never stays on. Fairy: Not much of a looker, sadly. Something about the skirt and the top just doesn't click for me. Still, the fairy wings could come in handy. Football Player: Got to stick my oar in and say yes, should have been called American Football Player or even better, Quaterback. Actually it makes no difference as the only place their names appear is on the website, not on the packaging at all. Anyway the fig? Boring. Like most people, I don't live in the USA so my interest in this guy is limited. Alien Villainess: I didn't realise until recently that they've actually put a cute little print on the face there, with eyelashes and a bit of lipstick. In case you ever forgot she was a she. I didn't really care for the Alien Invasion line, but I guess she'd make a unique addition to them. For me, it's a chance for another cloth cape or two, but something tells me she will be one of the rarer figs. Pirate Captain: Oh look another pirate with a hook, pegleg and eyepatch. Never seen one of those before. Ah well, he'll still be welcome, thanks to a handy torso print that I can re-use all over the shop. Oh, and a white plume. Nice. Downhill skier: Snooooooooze. I think this is one of the first occasions where two historical figs in the same line come from the same era (Actor and Conquistador), so that's something pretty nice to look forward to.
August 11, 201212 yr Series 8 has arrived at my TRU in New Jersey. A few cases came on the truck yesterday. They should be on the sales floor sometime today. Grabbed the bat, fairy, alien, robot, cowgirl, and diver for me this time. I'll probably get some other ones at a later time.

What's the pricing on them?
August 11, 201212 yr Not to excited about this series. I just want 2 or 3 from this one. Yeah, at first I thought Blah. Actor - Awesome suit and neck thing Lesonhosen guy - cool pretzel and the Dj, Pirate Captain, Santa,American Football player (just too be safe ) bowler guy and some other are very nice.

August 11, 201212 yr I might need to call my TRU, just in case, despite living in Washington state. I may get a case, so be prepared for a box breakdown soon, if WhiteFang's review isn't up yet. Only maybe though.
August 11, 201212 yr The conquistador armor is pretty fantastic. It's very detailed, but without any specific emblem so it can fit into any faction or army. Perfect for elite guards, golden knights (other than crownies) and so on. I picked one up from the member here who got his hands on some early, and I'm very happy with it. Oh, and the rest of the figure is nice too! But really, just the breastplate is my favorite part of this whole series. Thumbs up for the actor, diver, and alien queen. Other than that, most of the figures are kind of "eh" to me.

August 11, 201212 yr They had two boxes out at my local TRU (Charleston, South Carolina) picked up seven: Diver, Man-bat, Actor x2 (my favorite), Santa, Conquistador, Pirate They were $3.49 each so I might wait for a Bogo 1/2 or see what their prices are once they start popping up in Wal-mart or Target Not sure if it is the product code but the number on on my receipt is 673419163002 Edited August 11, 201212 yr by MikeyB
August 12, 201212 yr Interesting. I guess I'll check my local Toys'R'Us tomorrow to see if they have any. Edited August 12, 201212 yr by just2good
