Masta' Blasta' Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 That fairy isn't at all what I had expected, the colors clash and the wings look weird. And does the alien have lipstick? Other than those two nitpicks, this line looks lovely. I'll be glad to see it on shelves! Quote
bekindsorewind Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 Would TRU expect to see these in stores at early August? Quote
lifeinplastic Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 (edited) I was hoping that pictures would emerge gradually like Series 6 so I could stretch out the excitement! 1) Trader - nice to have the bowler hat in black. A great face although I would have thought he would have been wearing a pin stripe suit! I was hoping this would include a mobile phone too although probably as this is a historical trader it would not work so well. 2) American Footballer - A decent looking figure. I really like the sports characters. My only gripe is the numbers on the torso mean every player is a number 12! I would like more of each sports figure to build full teams and oppositions though. 3) Cheerleader - nice to see in a different colour. Hopefully there will be more in future sets with different colours/letters, etc. I quite like repeats. 4) Alien - not a sci-fi fan but nice to have some variety and this looks like a pretty cool character. 5) Conquistador - great face and good to have figures reflecting different historical periods. 6) Evil Robot - probably my least favourite but good to have an adversary for the Series 1 robot! 7) Bavarian - Great torso but I dislike the mouth. Hopefully there will be other Alpine characters in future - Swiss milkmaids, goat herders (Heidi) and an Alpenhorn player. 8) Cowgirl - looks like a fairly modern cowgirl but I like figures that represent other cultures/nationalities. 9) DJ - slightly disappointed with this mainly because it looks like the headphones aren't compatible with other hairstyles. Also the torso is a little dull. 10) Bat monster - will be good for people who cannot justify spending large amounts on the Monster Fighter set with the bat characters. 11) Diver - his helmet looks a little bulky but a good mould and this will be popular - I love scuba diving too so nice to see an old-school diver 12) Pirate - another of my least favourite figures and a real oppotunity missed to give the old parrot a colour change to become a blue macaw! 13) Skier - nice different coloured outfit. I want more skiers/snowboarders and winter figs. A shame she has normal hair rather than a woolen hat though. 14) Santa - at last a real Santa hat!!! Nicely done Lego. 15) Thespian - The bard would be proud. Will definitely buy one for my best friend who is a lecturer of English Literature. 16 I was expecting the fairy to be a little more pink. Not something I'm that interested in but good to have a new female face and a nice one at that. Now I have the hump I will have to wait ages for Series 9! *keeps fingers crossed for a hotel bellhop, UN soldier, Elvis, several Grand National jockeys, a cricketer, a guy with striped BBQ apron, a shepherd, Peruvians, a gondolier, kids in birthday party hats (coloured paper crowns), a tourist in a Panama hat, a barbershop quartet, members of a brass band, orchestra musicians and a mother with baby wearing glasses and closed mouth (the mother not the baby!)* Edited July 13, 2012 by lifeinplastic Quote
Captain Becker Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 Pirate captain, Actor and Conqistador are my top 3! My wallet is already empty, an soon it will be even emptier. Dont blaim me! Its no my fault that LEGO keeps releasing these awesome "Must get" minifigs... Captain Becker Quote
snefroe Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 I've always liked un upcoming series as the first pics surfaced, then I sometimes changed my mind (series 3) This time, I'm not so excited. Not as bad as the translated_from_Czech list, but surely half as bad. Trader: not bad, but far from exciting. Ameican footballer: interesting choice, let's see how different he is compared to the S4 Hockey player. The trophy doesn't scream NFL, but it would have been hard to make a proper ball. Cheerleader: Why? Seriously, Why? Female alien: far from interesting, but I only bought the two smaller Alien Conquest sets, so the head piece will be new for me, and the fig will be easy to spot thanks to the slope skirt. Conquistador: Outstanding. Robot: see cheerleader. Bavarian boy: Original, and lovely food piece. Fairy: I'm not sure I like hair piece and wand color, everything else is great. Cowgirl: way better than expected Disk jockey: see cowgirl Winged Monster: I'll only buy the two smaller Monster fighters sets, so it's not bad to have him here. Old style diver: see cowgirl and disk jockey Pirate: eye-patch, hook and wooden leg. What's his name, Captain Original? Female skier: let's say it's okay. I wonder if future (rumored) series will come with more opposite-gender counterparts to existing sports figs. Santa: at least he has a new hat and bag / backpack. Hamlet: best concept in this series, and one of the best in any series so far. you sum it up pretty well, imo... Quote
robotimms Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 Heck Yes! The old-style deep-sea diver has been on my wish-list since this line started!!! This series, like every other, is must have for me. Like all of them, especially the Alien Queen, Evil Robot, and the Diver. It's cool that TLG made some of these pieces more accessible - alien head, man-bat,etc. Looking forward to these. Quote
Walter Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 That fairy isn't at all what I had expected, the colors clash and the wings look weird. It's better then no fairy at all, but yeah it does clash. I think the Ice Skater from series 4 has a skirt piece that would fit pretty well with the figure. Quote
Dr Leg O Brick Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 I need a pacemaker after seeing this! I have just made four new pirate ships and will be all over these figures. Don't have much to add to the positive comments, but is The Pirate Captian's hook chrome? The skier looks like Lady Penelope to me for some reason. All in all a good series. Quote
Fighter of Frizzies Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 About the same "meh" to "awesome!" ratio as I've seen with other series. Though I have few unlicensed sets so I'm probably more excited about some like the Alien Queen and Vampire Bat than others. Keep up the great waves Lego! Quote
Weil Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 I don't really agree with those saying that the aliens body could be used as a dress such as for a witch. The big metallic thing round the neck means the torso wouldn't work as that if you ask me, so at most you could just use the bottom half. (Repost of pic for people to see) I'm excited to see what the conquistador's torso looks like under the armour. Quote
DaleDVM Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 I really want to see what that sack looks like up close. It is impossible to make a good looking minifig scale sack out of any current parts. I just hope this one will fill my needs. The lack of a true army building figure is a relief for me. Finally a series where I only need to collect one or two of each. Quote
Lightning Dragon Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 (edited) The diver being old-style is a nice change from the usual repeats. The pirate, Santa, and conquistador all look great. The army builder in this series is probably the Conquistador, or maybe the Santa(just kidding!) The enemy robot looks to much like the old one to me, which is why I don't like it. Fairy, football player, and bat all look OK, but I always have imagined the old-style diver helmet's opening in the front as having bars, rather than being a solid piece of glass. It's still a wonderful figure though. A terrific series overall, I can't wait for it to come out! Edited July 13, 2012 by Lightning Dragon Quote
Fighter of Frizzies Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 Actually, given that we are starting to see some re-designs of Series 1 figures (diver, robot, cheerleader) I hope Lego decides to do another zombie for the next series (I know, getting ahead of myself!) Quote
Lightning Dragon Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 Actually, given that we are starting to see some re-designs of Series 1 figures (diver, robot, cheerleader) I hope Lego decides to do another zombie for the next series (I know, getting ahead of myself!) I personally would like a Greek hoplite from another city, maybe Athens, or Corinth. I don't like repeats, but I guess they're OK, as long as they're not to similar to the original figure. The robot was too similar, in my opinion. The diver isn't really a "re-design," because it's kind of too different, but the cheerleader and robot definitely are. Quote
305Bats Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 Just a couple of black bats and Santa for me! Quote
Nightshroud99 Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 Anyone noticed how American CMF is? Hockey player, cowboy, native American, native American, cheerleader, cheerleader, cowgirl, American football player, daredevil (With his stars and stripes), baseball player... must I go on? To me the 'football' player is just a recolour of the hockey player, and the cheerleder also a relcolour. More consumers in America, it makes perfect sense. Besides, you listed Native American..twice. What about the highlander? Bavarian boy? Viking? Valkyrie? There are plenty of European equivalents. Quote
GuntherThePenguin Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 I would have more sympathy for you normally, but you just had a set of CMF that came out exclusively in your country. Also, I think the London banker screams U.K. in this instance, as did the Highland battler, the Bagpiper, and the Palace Guard. You don't see any of us over here screaming about how "English" everything is, do you? *Wild Applause* Quote
Tobias_Jay Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 Santa Hat? Pretzel? BLACK BAT? This is perfection! they all look like winners to me. And now we have an all new look for the phrase "look out for the big black bat". Quote
DraikNova Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 Well, the sack seems to be just a crumpled sack, which, like the Santa minifig, is thinner than the classical depiction. PS: Can we please not start up the whole "Europe VS United States" thing again, we already had that in the Dino topic, so please, can we just not argue? Thanks. Quote
Tanotrooper Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 Although this series as a whole isn't that impressive, certain figures are excellent. The conquistador, Shakespeare and pirate captain are perfect figures for my 16th-17th century warfare project. Shakespeare is perfect, I'm glad the collar will be removable, outstanding printing aswell. The pirate captain, although not as impressive as a whole, has a fantastic torso for armybuilding. (I'm thinking 18th century redcoats.) I'm happy and disappointed with the conquistador; the figure itself is perfect but I (and I think the Pirate/historical comunity aswell) REALLY needed a silver/metallic helmet. I can't think about a single example, both historical and fiction, when someone wore a goldcoloured Morion. Even kings and nobility wore heavily decorated silvercoloured or darkened helmets. The figure is a succes on its own, but it's a missed opportunity for the MOC community. (Btw, didn't the Spanish and Portuguese go to the Americas looking for gold instead of wearing it? ) Guess I'll have to dress my pikemen in black and gold armour... The alien queen's skirt should work great for some noblewoman's dress. (With a different torso though.) Love the cape on that one aswell. The English gentlemen is perfect, the much needed black bowler has finally arrived! TLG did a marvelous job on the diver and cowgirl, both look great! My two personal biggest letdowns are the manbat and the cheerleader. The manbat will allready be released twice soon (both monster hunters and batman I believe?) so making a third one for the CMF seems a bit overkill. The cheerleaders would've been better if they didn't make her EXACTLY the same. Besides the colour, everything just looks the same. (The same hairmould is what kills it I believe.) That being said, there's one thing I really like about the cheerleader: red and white pompons = minifigure pokeballs. All in all, quite a few figures to 'army'build. Gaetano Quote
Legonardo Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 (edited) best series yet! Edited July 13, 2012 by Legonardo Davidy Quote
Piranha Posted July 13, 2012 Author Posted July 13, 2012 Oh, we finally have the pictures. My favorites are: Cheerleader (Missed the first one, alright with me) Diver Cowgirl Pirate Conquistador Bavarian (Love that pretzel!) Renaissance Poet Businessman Most from any series for me. Quote
DraikNova Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 The English gentlemen is perfect, the much needed black bowler has finally arrived! I think you have just creeped me out completely. Where is that image from? PS: There will be riots about that awesome "Female Alien" fig, I tell you. Quote
David Thomsen Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 Ooh... nice. Although in one of the pictures I couldn't figure out why the robot was holding a croissant. I collect pirate, western and space themed minifigs, and this is the first series that satisfies all of those collections. I'm going to have to swap out the lasso for a gun, though. I think I'll start an 'age of exploration' theme as well. That would give me an excuse to pick up the Aztec from a previous series, the conquistador here, and if you take the skull away from the actor he could easily pass for Sir Francis Drake. I would love to build some older style ships for them. I probably won't get any of the others, but they have some great accessories. Santa's sack has a lot of uses. Hair with headphones, vinyl record, black bowler hat, various wings, newspaper, suit, diver... this is an excellent series. Quote
Rogue Angel Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 Good thing I bought 4 man-bats off BL I could've just waited if I'd known they were going to recolor them for $3 a piece. Best: Thespian, Conquistador, Diver, Bat - 4 VERY solid figs IMO. I will be picking up the evil robot, which I think is a much better recoloring than some of the other one's they've done - at least it's a unique mold I see the appeal of the pirate, since I liked the evil knight from S7 Bavarian Boy has potential depending on the coloration and printing Worst: Santa Claus (really?) Female Alien (bad alien when it first came out, why bother with second?), Fairy (this had SO much potential, but this is so blah...) so overall, a solid series. Quote
