Kai NRG Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 Are the new headphones attached to the hairpiece? I'm wondering that too. Judging from the pics, they are. But then again, they just might not be. . . - footballer: neat trophy, but the guy could use some more color, he seems plain, and the sleeveless arms don’t really do it for me - pirate: like I said before, too much gold. the torso is the one very useful part. Yeah, too much gold on the pirate. . . I don't really get the sleeveless arms either - they don't look that good on a football player - he should at least have short sleeves! Quote
Shroffy123 Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 The spanish knight looks amazing!!! I really hope I can get a lot of them, unlike with the Roman :/ Quote
Zeya Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 Looking at the pictures, it seems like they are using the same color/material for the metallic elements across multiple figs: Pirate sword Pirate hook Conquistador helmet Diver helmet Football trophy And if those are all the same color/material, is it going to be the copper color like the Gladiator had? Or will it be pearl gold? Because I highly doubt it will be chrome gold, and from these renders, those parts don't look chrome anything to me. My guess is that it's the same as the copper used on the gladiator helmet. Maybe the pirate isn't so gold-laden after all? Quote
Graysmith Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 Anyone noticed how American CMF is? Hockey player, cowboy, native American, native American, cheerleader, cheerleader, cowgirl, American football player, daredevil (With his stars and stripes), baseball player... must I go on? Canadians, Swedes, Finns, Czechs and Russians (among others) would beg to differ that a hockey player is "American". I'll give you the others, but I think it's merely a matter of America having a uniquely different history compared to most countries, and a distinct culture (that is also well-known around the world, i.e. most people know what a cowboy is). I mean, if I say Germany to you, can you tell me any famous German stereotypes/characters (beyond a guy in lederhosen and maybe an Oktoberfest bar maid) that would be recognizable to people all over the world? I definitely think LEGO could and should make more of an attempt to not be as America-centric though (no one needs another cheerleader) but I can't really argue against them choosing to do most of those characters you mentioned above. Quote
Ceroknight Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 I know many people will disagree with me, but I think this series is the worse.. Nothing really excites me here unfortunately Quote
Arigomi Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 While Santa isn't original, I feel like this version capture the spirit of the character the best. The pointy hats used previously always missed the mark. The DJ has a lot of personality and the printed record will be a nice for anyone that gets 10228 Haunted House. That set uses a sticker to create a record on a gramaphone. The Bavarian guy looks great with his lederhosen. Hopefully there will be a German barmaid in a dirndl holding a beer stein in a future series. I would've liked the cheerleader more if they didn't stick so closely to the original. The lack of a canvas skirt is fine but the printing on the torso could use an update. Most cheerleader uniforms are patterned like this: Another option would be to use long sleeves to represent the winter outfits used during cold weather. Quote
SpiderSpaceman Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 the Hamlet dude, the DJ, the Diver, and the Pretzel eater are my favorites. I love the alien queen but I think the lipstick will be a bummer to little blokes who couldn't get the ambassador dude (due to his only appearance in the mostly not worth it mothership) and I'm loving the robot on account of the many who couldn't get the first. I hope the helmet is solid metallic.. Quote
vexorian Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 (edited) Well... I might add a line. I hope no-one gets offended, this is just my personal view. I can see that there are people happy for this serie, which I state again, TO ME it's the worse ever, but I really can't imagine for neither a second people telling this is the best series ever! If you like Cheerleaders, Robots, "Alien Conquest"'s Aliens, Pirate Captains, ? We already had these guys! Cheerleaders and Robots. Sure, "we" already got them. Except that most people actually could not get much of series 1, as it was under produced or distributed terribly or whatever. The Alien Conquest queen is a very different thing from the other Alien Conquest dudes. Edited July 14, 2012 by vexorian Quote
Deathleech Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 I'm not a huge CMF fan since I recently got back into Lego, but there are generally 2-3 that I pick up from the last few waves because I really like the way they look. Howevere this wave doesn't seem to have any such minifigs. I'm not saying it's a terrible wave, it's just not really my cup of tea. Quote
Blondie-Wan Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 I will note that the football player will probably be the first team sportsman from this line that I don't try to army-build a whole team of, thanks partly to my personal disinterest in American football, but mainly to it having a specific player number on the jersey. That said, I'll still go for a minimum 2, as usual. My personal "army-builder" picks here would probably be the robot, the Bavarian, the trader / businessman gentleman, the diver, the cheerleader, the cowgirl, the man-bat and the conquistador, though I don't think I'll go for dozens of most of those - probably more like five or six apiece, save for the robot. I think I'd like scads of that one. Quote
Fighter of Frizzies Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 (edited) you're kidding right? we need more firemen like eskimos need ice. But don't they? Eskimos I mean. But I still see the purpose in re-hashes. Complementing existing themes, ensuring Lego doesn't blow every good idea in one theme, army-building, etc. They don't always excite me, but they're fine. Edited July 14, 2012 by Fighter of Frizzies Quote
Brickity Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 (edited) Can someone please explain me where the alien's mouth is? I don't understand her face, all I see is a green pug. The DJ, I like him but I'm not that excited.. maybe something printed on his hair would've been nice... probably green highlights? (That makes the hairpiece less usable though) His headphones are awesome either way! Also.. Is the fairy's skirt actually a transparent blue or just green? In her stand she has that green skirt, but in the "graduation" picture it looks transparent to me... maybe the green is a prototype? Makes sense doesn't it? I would've liked the cheerleader more if they didn't stick so closely to the original. The lack of a canvas skirt is fine but the printing on the torso could use an update. Most cheerleader uniforms are patterned like this: Another option would be to use long sleeves to represent the winter outfits used during cold weather. That's exactly what I thought! Actually, if she had a better face print (Probably winking would've been nice!) I wouldn't mind the boring outfit, but she has that huge grin Alas poor yorick! Lego_Hero Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 The sooner everyone starts speaking english and uniting with a world capital city in San Francisco, the faster we embrace the future that is Star Trek. Kidding aside, I want to throw my two cents into the mix. I'm super excited that we now have some pics to go by. It sounds like the peanut gallery is split on the over all quality of this series, but I think it's just as good, and in some cases, better than previous series. I'm going to rank them from best to worst (in my own opinion) and add comments. Now keep in mind that the majority of any series is used as parts for my super heroes, so some of my choices may seem odd to you. The DIVER is my favorite for this series. I've beeen waiting so long for that helmet. The Steampunk implications alone are staggering. The MANBAT is next because of his arms and hair/ear piece. I wasn't about to drop that much money on the Monster Fighters set just for him, so I'm glad he made the series. The next three are in a dead heat. The EVIL ROBOT is my next pick because I just know there is a crazy-awesome face underneath that helmet. His torso is cool too. I can't wait for a better image. Getting the arm in black is also cool. The CONQUISTADOR is goldgasmic. I don't have that helmet, so I'm happy there. That looks like a new armor piece with shoulders. It looks like a cross between the regular torso armor and the hockey player torso piece. The COWGIRL beats out the rest because of the legs assembly. BOOTS! I'll end up buying extras just so all my cowboys have boots. I'm glad they didn't make them pink. The THESPIAN comes next in the pack with great torso and leg printing. I'll have to find a use for that neck piece as well. The rest of the series comes down to what parts they have that I would have use for. Of all the rest, what parts do I want the most? The FAIRY has wings. I want those wings. The wand is nice, but I think I already have a few. I'm curious about her torso print. Would it make a good toga? The hair in a different color is also nice. The FEMALE ALIEN is next because I don't have that head. I'm looking forward to seeing what I can do with the brains! The torso is not bad either. I'm not a big fan of the wedge dress piece, so there's that. How many of those space guns are we going to get? Let's move on to a new one already. The FOOTBALLER's shoulder pads would be alot more useful if they didn't have a number on them. Oh well. I like the helmet in that color. They should have gone with a football instead of the trophy. All you'd have to do is hollow out the ball and have a small bar handle inside of it like the pom pom. The CHEERLEADER is nice. The skirt in white and red could be useful. I actually like the red shirt A. I'd put some red arms on it and use it on a hero whose name starts with A. The PIRATE is low on the list because I have so many pirate minifigs and not a huge use for them. Still, the hook in gold would be nice. The BUSINESS MAN has a black bowler hat. I almost painted one of the clown's bowler hats black not too long ago. Glad I didn't. The SKIER has nice hair, face and torso. I really like the legs because, again, there are boots printed on them. The BAVARIAN... well, ther's the feather in his cap. The DJ may ove up my list with a higher resolution picture. I think the shirt has those sound level bars in the shape of a minifig head. I guess the hair piece would be useful for a military radio operator. Finally, there's SANTA. none of that is useful to me. I know there are alot of Santa fans out there, but as a minifig- humbug. If he'd at least had BOOTS printed on his legs, he'd have shot into the middle of the pack. Imagine red legs with black boots. Those would be some popular legs. Army builders? Obviously the conquistador. From then, the manbat, diver, and football player. More than some series, less than others. Quote
Haltiamieli Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 (edited) What's strange about the red cheerleader is that it doesn't seem to have the normal thinned waist print like modern female figs more or less always have, nor does she have any indication of breasts. Compare to her blue rival: I'm surprised that the hair piece hasn't been released in black before. A new mold would have made the fig a lot more desirable, but a recolour is better than nothing. With the general consensus being against this fig, I suppose her hair will be rather cheap in Bricklink. And hopefully her head too, I think I'm going to use it for my female jester. Looks loony enough. Edited July 14, 2012 by Haltiamieli Quote
TrumpetKing Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 What's strange about the red cheerleader is that it doesn't seem to have the normal thinned waist print like modern female figs more or less always have, nor does she have any indication of breasts. I was actually thinking the same thing! Quote
Darth Caedus Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 And here I was worried there would be nothing to army build! That's the fun of the CMFs and while I won't be purchasing Spartan/Roman levels, there are far more figures in here than I would have expected to strike my fancy. Old Timey Businessman: Classy with a cool bowler hat, will grab 1 or 2. American Footballer: Yeah, don't care. Red Cheerleader: Appreciate the demand but no interest. Alien Queen: Disappointingly stupid. The cape is worth buying 1 - complements the Sorcerer's Stone Dumbledore body to make the ultimate Lego Pimp. Conquistador: Would have preferred a musket or pistol, but the rapier is fine. Golden armor is no new mold but looks nice. Probably 3. Evil Robot: Cool enough to grab 1. Lederhosen: Pretzel for cheaper than Bag End, and useful components, especially the hat for Forestmen. Fairy: Talk about disappointing. Bland and disjointed, an epic 0/10 uberfail by Lego. Easily in the top 10 worst CMF ever. Could have had an epic Fairy like in the sketch designs but this? Ugh! Looks like bad cosplay. Cowgirl: Worth it for 1 lasso, otherwise too hokey. DJ: Nice hairpiece. A good one for City freaks, probably nab 1. Not my focus. Man Bat: Epic Win! Surprise of the wave. Cooler than the MF Manbat and a definite armybuilder. Unleash the Vampire Hordes. Diggin' it. Want half a dozen at least. Old Timey Diver: Thank you Lego for giving us the diver we want. Let the Bioshock MOCs begin! Grabbing at least half a dozen for steampunk compatibility. Pirate King: Gold Cutlass and Gold Hook. Yes Please. 2-3 minimum. Skiwoman: Haha no. Sports figures...the bane of the CMF. Santa: Never had an issue with the other Santas but it's a free beard and satchel. Perhaps 1. William Shakespeare: Awesome, unexpected. Grabbing 3-6 at least for that awesome neck fringe. Opens up an entire century of MOCs. All in all, probably going to get more of 8 than 7. Hope 9 gets back to what makes CMF shine with some good historical military figures. A Saladin-style Arab warrior, a Mongol, a Maharajah and a Terra Cotta soldier, perhaps? Orient represent. Quote
Faefrost Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 Can someone please explain me where the alien's mouth is? I don't understand her face, all I see is a green pug. These might help. These are some of the other Aliens in the Alien Conquest series, which she is very clearly a member of. (Actually I take it as a hopeful sign that AC may be viewed as a more lasting Evergreen line. Either that or they are just clearing out produced but unused figs from when they last minute cancelled it for Summer.) (all pics from the Bricklink catalog for demonstrative purposes) In the females face that small triangle on her chin is her lower jaw. She just has her mouth closed. You can see it a little better in the Alien Leader fig that has the same head, but from a different angle. The Alien Pilot with the open mouth will give a better idea. What's strange about the red cheerleader is that it doesn't seem to have the normal thinned waist print like modern female figs more or less always have, nor does she have any indication of breasts. Compare to her blue rival: Sooo we are getting an underaged Junior High School Chearleader? Now I feel creepy for wanting one you're kidding right? we need more firemen like eskimos need ice. Personally I wouldn't mind a new Fireman, so long as they did it appropriately different from what we currently have. Case in point. the Modular 10197 Fire Brigade. Beautiful American style mid century Fire House. Staffed with the finest British style Firemen you could possibly find. A more Americanized classic fire fighter would be nice, with long coat and distinctive leather "New Yorker" style helmet. (And yeah the newer Fire fighter figs are American types. Just the wrong coast and time. The yellow and red forest fire firemen are modern California types.) Quote
jonwil Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 I suspect the female (given the design) is most likely something they did for a possible second Alien Conquest wave that never got released and then they took the fig and changed it a bit so it could be sold as a CMF. Great that we are getting 1 x 1 round tiles in trans-purple, now if only TLG would do 1 x 1 round plates in the color :( Quote
PhaTic Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 Wow! I think this is one of the best series of Collectable Figures TLC has made so far. It was hard to pick my favorite, but it would probably be the Pirate or Actor. Quote
Vindicare Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 Ooh, I'm really liking this series. That DJ is awesome, headphones! Still a bit too much recoloring/remakes. I suppose that's going to be the norm from now on. Quote
Miss Kyle Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 Lovely series, can't wait to get it! Mr. Holmes from the earlier series finally gets his dearest companion. This Holmes fangirl is pleased :D Quote
Cutty Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 Whoa! Series 8 looks better than I anticipated! That "female" alien is pretty nice, given I never got all the AQ sets! Pirate captain, diver, dark robot, victorian era actor, fairy, bowler hat businessman and red cheerleader look awesome! Not so keen on american footballer, Lederhosen-man, female skier, cowgirl and DJ... Some have nice accesories though: Lasso, pretzel (!), gold trophy. Santa claus is nice for looks, but I don't like him. Would have preferred him having the new Gandalf-beard in white... But here's the top crop: "Bat-Man" and conquistador! Those are definitely fantastic and serious army building potentials! Imagine a huge swarm of those bats in a fantasy layout! Awesome! And they look even better in black, opposed to their first release in brown. Way to go TLC, well played! Good thing there are so many figs I don't want multiples of, so I can focus on gem hunting again! Be well all! Cutty Quote
Lego_Hero Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 I didn't realize the cheerleader's hair was a new color for that mold. All the more reason to pick one up. I don't mind that the contours are not evident in the torso. It can be used more that way. Had they given her red arms, she'd look like she was wearing the team's sweater like some do when the weather turns cold. Quote
Dorayaki Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 (edited) Honestly I do think even though the series 8 minifigs themselves look cute, but it's alittle sad to see some duplicative themes from series 1 or ideas in this sets. Evil Robot: Similar with the original Robot, though maybe new face inside. Red Cheerleader: Rather than recolor, maybe she chould have new outfit print and new hairpiece. I guess LEGO would make a male cheer member in the next series. Santa: Nice redesign from the traditional Santa, although I'm not sure if LEGO should make it in future Advant Calendars. Pirate King: Also a common role in past LEGO sets, but I can't feel much progress as Santa does. Footballer: Simple nice redesign. Manbat: UH....he is indeed cool, but I don't know if LEGO just made recolor from Monster Fighter and save their time. Conquistador: Nice design and gold helmet, though alittle like traditional Castle theme. Alien Princess: Okay to me, even though it's sad not a new head piece. Bavarian Boy: Cute pretzel, but from the small pic I'm not sure if he's in a Bavarian style. But it's possible LEGO would go with Bavarian Girl in the next season. Gold Diver: Interesting gold outfit, though I don't know their idea to make another diver Fairy: Uhm... okay to me, but in face of the other fairy keychains, I don't feel too much new idea in this minifig. Cowgirl: Actually better than prediction since she doesn't remind me of the previous cowboy or Jessie from Toy Story. DJ: Umh.... not sure if the style do feel like real DJs. Ancient Thespis: I don't really get the concept, or it can be an interesting minifig. Skier: Somewhat cool, but seems like many duplicative snow sports in this series. Trader: I'm not sure if LEGO wanted to make an aged style businessman, or it can be cooler. Edited July 14, 2012 by Dorayaki Quote
