Pythor Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 I Do try not to be negative but im a bit disapointed and worried.Lego could do much better but seem to really lack imagination in this series. It almost looks kind of fake with the old moulds being reused and another robot, cheerleader etc... Roll on series nine , but for now better just keep buying series seven :D Quote
Redhead1982 Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 I wasn't following any predictions and speculations about the series 8, and I was pleasantly surprised with the pictures. I like most of them, except for the alien figure and the robot. It's great that CMs are introducing new molds for accessories, such as the pretzel, hair with headphones, Santa's bag. Quote
DraikNova Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 (edited) Austrian pretzel guy - Nice but not going to fit with anything I have planned. I'll bricklink the pretzel though. At first sight I also thought that was supposed to be an Austrian. Why isn't there a Sachertorte mold yet? Also, I think a lot of people will use the diver helmet as some sort of steam chamber for Steampunk MOCs. Anyway, can someone please tell me what the address for Thosk's (that's spelled right, right?) blog is? Edited July 14, 2012 by DraikNova Quote
Theo Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 (edited) Conquistador, Actor, Diver (Steampunk, yeah!), Pretzel guy are the best for me. Quite a lot minifigures bring nothing new, some of them are almost copies of previous seen ones (cheerleader, robot, football player, skier, pirate, santa) TLG could do somethin more original. I can't understand how some people are exited about the man-bat , I find it very ugly and disgusting...seriously it's not even scary... Edited July 14, 2012 by Theo Quote
Fuppylodders Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 The sooner everyone starts speaking english and uniting with a world capital city in San Francisco, the faster we embrace the future that is Star Trek. Kidding aside, I want to throw my two cents into the mix The COWGIRL beats out the rest because of the legs assembly. BOOTS! I'll end up buying extras just so all my cowboys have boots. I'm glad they didn't make them pink. Holy crap! you just made me realise something! Those cowgirl boots could also be used for a Luftwaffe pilots legs! brown leather boots with white fluffy top/inner boot warmer bit, the blue legs and the belt with the silver buckle in the middle!! Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 (edited) Thank you very much for these pictures! I must honestly say that series 8 is til now for me the less attractive series of all! The only minifigures I really like are the DJ and the Bavarian. Let's hope that the next series will be again more interesting. Klaus-Dieter Edited July 14, 2012 by Klaus-Dieter Quote
SilentMode Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 (edited) My weblog post about S8, will be primarily after Cheerleaders, cue personal attacks and mobbing. More seriously: this series isn't on the same level as S4 and S7, but I don't think it's that bad. There's something for everybody, and plenty of scope for trading figures, which is cool. Edited July 14, 2012 by SilentMode Quote
natelite Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 But we haven't had one from the collectable minifigure line A specialized original one would be cool But don't they? Eskimos I mean. But I still see the purpose in re-hashes. Complementing existing themes, ensuring Lego doesn't blow every good idea in one theme, army-building, etc. They don't always excite me, but they're fine. Again I ask, you guys are kidding right? You saw the designs of rehashes and the reaction to them and yet still insist on a rehash of the most plentiful minifigure in the Lego universe besides policemen. I must ask the question again. Why? Before you answer i need to ask how many of the forest firemen sets did you buy? I think they should have a law to force folks who make these kinds of mindless suggestions to buy the unsold stocks rotting away on the shelves. Quote
natelite Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 The CONQUISTADOR is goldgasmic. I don't have that helmet, so I'm happy there. That looks like a new armor piece with shoulders. It looks like a cross between the regular torso armor and the hockey player torso piece. The FOOTBALLER's shoulder pads would be alot more useful if they didn't have a number on them. Oh well. I like the helmet in that color. They should have gone with a football instead of the trophy. All you'd have to do is hollow out the ball and have a small bar handle inside of it like the pom pom. The PIRATE is low on the list because I have so many pirate minifigs and not a huge use for them. Still, the hook in gold would be nice. Most of your comments are valid and highlighted the points of this series being mainly a parts pack. I just want to address some of your points which were not quite valid. So don't take this as an attack. . The conquistador armor is your regular euro armor with new prints. It's not a new mold. You don't need a hollowed out ball. Just one with studs on both pointy ends. That way you can hold the ball in the mf's hands or place it down on the field for a punt. The pirate's hook in pearl gold has been plentiful enough. In the last pirates theme released in 2010, any hook has been in pearl gold. If they had made it in light bley or pearly grey this round it would be better. It's the same with the conquistador helmet. Metallic silver would be ideal but any variation of light bley or pearl grey would have been better than gold. I'm not quite sure what they are thinking sometimes. Quote

More seriously: this series isn't on the same level as S4 and S7, but I don't think it's that bad. There's something for everybody, and plenty of scope for trading figures, which is cool. Nice blog, but I have to say I completely disagree with your opinion on Pirate, “Vampire”, Conquistador, Evil Robot, Female Alien as all of them fall under the three categories I focus on (Warrior, Mystical/Legendary/Monster and Sci Fi). As I'm not interested in getting the Vampyre Castle (to expensive for my tastes), the fact a black manbat is part of the CMF range is PERFECT for me. But then that's what I like about the CMF; just because I'm not after City/Realistic figures doesn't mean someone else won't want them to compliment sets they have, and as I'm not willing to shell out large quantities of money for loose Monster Fighters (as BRILLIANT as they may be), the fact there is a nice degree of crossover between CMF and MF means I can get similar characters for a more wallet friendly price. However, while I am happy to get a Pirate Captain, I do agree he's not as good as he could have been and in no way tops Brickbeard. And so I'm purely negative/come across like a douche, I do agree that the Fairy and Deep Sea Diver look brilliant and I'm also quite interested in the Skier as well (as I have been collecting the other Winter Sports characters as well). dyntar Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 So its not the most exciting series to me. I prefer the historical figures instead of sports or modern figures. The figures that i like are the bavarian, conquistador, pirate captain, actor and Santa. I really need Santa for my winter village display. Theres a few new and recoloured parts that I like. The Cheerleaders hair in black - nice colour for a villain. The pretzel, actors ruff and Santas sack. The conquistadors armour looks awesome even in the low res pics we have. The forestman hat in dark green is great. And I don't think Lego has made that feather in white for about 10 years. I'm not too sure about that fairy. The colour mix of green, white top, trans blue wings and trans pink seems wrong. If they had just stuck to different shades of the one colour it would have looked better. If she had a green top, green dress, pale green wings and maybe a clear or silver wand she would have looked better. Just my opinion. I'll still buy a box full anyway. Quote
vittorio Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 (edited) Quite a relief that I only want two figures from this series (cheerleader and DJ). I just hope they end this at, I don't know, maybe series 10. This whole CMS thing is just mind-boggling as far as value for money is concerned. Do you think TLG achieved what it originally wanted with the CMS line? Collecting, blind-purchasing, and swapping seemed such a great community-building scheme. Instead, from what I've experienced it's all just rabid hoarding and reselling, especially for countries/markets without a direct LEGO retail presence like where I am right now. My point with the armor was that the shoulders seem wider. More like the hockey player's. Now, you can clearly see the midline crease that is customary of the normal armor on the black package, so I'm sure you're right. Your football wouldn't work for carrying. We don't carry it by the tip. Your way would work for the kickoff, though. You meant kickoff instead of punt right? Putting the ball on the ground for a punt would make the coach really mad. LOL! I don't have a golden hook, so to me the pirate's golden hook is a reason to buy it. I think they've been going with gold lately for the wow factor. Silver or pearl grey would have been much more accurate. Put the conquistador next to the Aztec. Notice a pattern forming? Did everyone run around in gold armor back then? Maybe Lego is making a political statement about the exploitation of the native population by European fortune seekers... I mean explorers. Of course I wouldn't be here if not for them, so thank you gold conquistador helmet! Edited July 14, 2012 by Lego_Hero Quote
Blacktron Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 (edited) I'm into the classic monster figures and Space. So I will buy: The Man-Bat: This guy is cute and very dark at the same time. Fantastic design. I will buy at least 3-4 of them. I can't understand why there are so many people who don't like him. I think the vampire hunters line is one of the coolest und best designed lines lego has ever done. The evil robot: Okay, he's a rehash. But I don't own the robot of series 1. But this one is far cooler then the first. I'll buy 2-3. Let's see of some parts will be useful for Space MOCs. Female Alien: I'm a little disapointed about this one. I would have prefered a female companion for the series 3 space villain, with black helmet and blacktron logo on the chest. But this one is not a bad design. Perfect for Alien conquest fans and I like the trans-purple. I'll buy 1-2. Santa claus: Simply a cute and well done figure. Much better than the previous santas. A rucksack would have been perfect. I'll buy 1 of them. Conquistador: I like it. Just a well done figure. I'll buy 1. I don't care about the rest of them. I've read so much complaining about the monster/space figures. I just wanted to say that there are collectors like me who are focused on these types of figures only. I find figures like the business man, bavarian guy, skier very boring. I've never bought some of these city figures and I never will. Edited July 14, 2012 by Blacktron Quote
Palathadric Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 I love the guv'na with his frilly neck piece. The conquistador is really great to. But I...must...have...that...pretzel. Quote
Graysmith Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 To those who are disappointed, look on the bright side: You can save your money for other things/LEGO! I mean, seriously, imagine if every single thing LEGO released was a must-have. You'd end up poor and homeless! Quote
KotZ Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 Seems like an ok wave. Definitely need to get the actor figure. I do like how they "rereleased" older figures for those who didn't get them before though. Well, maybe not like exactly. Quote
Gryphon Ink Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 Not the greatest series ever - even though it has lots of new parts, you can also see clearly that cranking out a series every few months is leading to a lot of unnecessary repeats. But there are several figures in here that I really, really want - man-bat is awesome, and that Alien Queen is a must, must, must-have. What an awesome present for AC fans! (And should be really easy to find her, too, since she's the only one with a skirt piece.) Quote

I mean, seriously, imagine if every single thing LEGO released was a must-have. You'd end up poor and homeless! You're right! Atfer seeing the new Superheroes pics, I find it a good thing that IMO half of the figs are terrible. Need to save up money for Superheroes, LotR and Hobbit sets. Quote
Kai NRG Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 Cheerleaders and Robots. Sure, "we" already got them. Except that most people actually could not get much of series 1, as it was under produced or distributed terribly or whatever. The Alien Conquest queen is a very different thing from the other Alien Conquest dudes. Not only were their not very many, LEGO didn't originally retal them since the rataling stores didn't see how popular they'd be. So when they saw that they were going like hotcakes, retailes jumped on LEGO for some, and LEGO had to take them straight from their stores. That's what I heard happened, anyway That's exactly what I thought! Actually, if she had a better face print (Probably winking would've been nice!) I wouldn't mind the boring outfit, but she has that huge grin Yeah. That grin just doesn't look too good. . . Quote

I am underwhelmed massively with S8. Sure, I'll get some but I don't particularly love any of them. I know we were both looking forward to the female alien but I thought it would be similar to the S6 alien. I suppose you like the cheerleaders for a zombie moc? I don't have the S1 zombie so their no use to me. Quote
Laura Beinbrech Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 The must-haves on my list are: Conquistador Shakespeare Pirate Captain Diver Alien Queen(?) Evil Robot Oktoberfest Guy Man-bat Quote
