Hey Joe Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 All of these look interesting and worthwhile to me with the possible exception of the athletes. We've gotten so many athletes now, how are we to incorporate them into our sets? They'd look a little odd walking down the street in my Town/City layout. Anyway, great fun! Quote
Cutty Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 Having seen some of the clear resolution out of package pics now I must reinforce my initial statement: The Man-Bat creature is by FAR my favourite of all CMF monsters right now! A cheap alternative to his brown counterparts from MF? Sold! Cool furry chest print? Sold! Vampyric appetite monster grin face print? Sold! What's not to love here? And the conquistador is even better than I hoped! The armour is generic and reusable in many contexts, the face is fit for many themes and it's a second chance to get some more rapiers. Cool stuff! Even that black-/evil-robot grows on me. As does the actor/thespian. Especially his clothes will be seen in many historic MOCs in the future, that's for sure! Good stuff TLC! You have done it again! Be well! Cutty Quote
Phyre Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 All right, here's my take on the series now that we have pictures. First of all, I think it's a nice step up from S7. Not as great as S4, S6, or S5, but probably tied with S1 for my fourth favorite series. With that said, here's my take on each of the figures, in order of how much I like them. 1. Conquistador - An awesome figure. The clear army builder for this series. True, he's not really historically accurate with all that gold, but since my LEGO collection is castle and heavily fantasy oriented, a small army of these guys will fit in just fine. 2. Manbat - Another great addition to the line-up. Another army builder for me. Unlike others who are really fond of this figure, I actually do plan on getting the Vampire Castle. Then I can use the brown manbats as generals and the black ones as the main bulk of the vampire army. 3. Diver - Although I don't have any use for extras of him, he's still a very cool figure and one we've been wanting for a while. LEGO really did a nice job on him. 4. Shakespearean Actor - A very pleasant surprise since he was originally labeled as an "ancient thespis." I was not expecting this, but I am very pleased. Extras will be very useful for minifig customizing. 5. Santa Claus - Very cool figure. Finally a proper Santa! He's awesome and a great addition to the CMF line-up. 6. Cowgirl - Very nicely done figure. She's very cool, and although I won't be getting any extras, she'll look very nice next to the other Wild West CMFs. 7. Alien Queen - I wasn't sure what to expect with this one, but it looks like LEGO did a really nice job. I wish I had some Alien Conquest figures for her to go with, but she'll still be nice on her own. I'll probably get an extra for the cape and dress piece. Too bad the torso has some alien technology on it or else I could use that as well for an evil medieval/fantasy queen. 8. Bavarian Guy - A very unique figure. He looks pretty cool, and even though I won't really have use for him, I'll buy a couple extras for the parts - especially the pretzel and forestman hat. 9. DJ - A lot cooler than I was expecting. 10. Pirate Captain - Pretty nice, although a little to similar to Brickbeard for my liking. Will probably grab a couple extras for parts though. 11. Businessman - With a bowler hat, just like I was hoping! I'll buy a couple extras just for the hats. 12. Evil Robot - He looks pretty cool, and even though he's similar to the S1 Robot, his printing is different enough to make him stand out. I think he'll complement the S1 one very well. 13. Football Player - It's a figure we've been wanting for a while, but I can't help thinking LEGO could have done a little better. For one thing, I don't really like the color scheme - too much white. And like others have said, he should have a football instead of a trophy. Not horrible, but could be better. 14. Skier - A little boring, not nearly as cool as the S2 skier. 15. Red Cheerleader - The S1 cheerleader was better, but it's nice to have one from an opposing team. 16. Fairy - This has to be the biggest letdown of the CMF line since they started it. When the list first came out, this was the figure I was the most excited about. But now that we have pictures, it is clearly one of the worst CMFs of all time. Why on earth did they not use Toth's design? This thing doesn't even look like a fairy except for the wings. If it weren't for the wings and wand, I'd think it was a really poor remake of the S4 figure skater. I'll be grabbing one just to complete the collection, and only one extra for the wings - combining the wings with the green princess from the Kingdoms Joust set should produce a much better fairy figure that's much closer to Toth's design. So all-in-all, aside from the fairy, this series looks pretty solid to me. I can't wait for it to hit stores, as my S7 collection is finished save for a few extras I still need (mostly Evil Knights). Yooha Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 Have a look at http://www.flickr.com/gislandertrading Is the manbat-s arm attached to the body in the bag, or are they separated? (just to know, what to feel) Quote
Bizzy78 Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 Is the manbat-s arm attached to the body in the bag, or are they separated? (just to know, what to feel) Its a complete arm with wing. Molded in one piece. Quote
natelite Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 Its a complete arm with wing. Molded in one piece. I think he's asking if the arms are attached to the torso. He wants to know how to feel for them in the blind packaging. Quote
Wardancer Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 Does anyone know how the divers feet are made? Simply a 1x1 plate or something else? Quote
Bizzy78 Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 I think he's asking if the arms are attached to the torso. He wants to know how to feel for them in the blind packaging. Attatched to the torso. Divers feet are 2 pc 1x1 plate Quote
natelite Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 I think it's a missed opportunity with the DJ. The headphones should have been removable and made to attach to the hairpiece like visors. It will also ensure compatibility with the friends ladyfigs since the hairpieces also have tiny holes for accessories. It was the right direction to start making accessories which are separate from hairpieces. There would have been a lot more uses for a separate headphone piece. For e.g. he could wear it with the strap down at the back of his neck rather than over his head. We could have recycle the headphones with new hairpieces when they become available. You could also use it as a visor on a helmet. Quote
Kumpelkante Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 Hey Guy, i took a look at the pics. And i agree, there are not as many hits as in series 6 or 7. But there are still some hits. I think i get more than one conquistador, because the breastplate seems to be very useful for golden knights, that do not wear crown or lion insignia. Also the shakespearian actor and the bavarian guy seem to be useful for castlebuilders, the latter because of its dark green hat. Also for fantasy builders, we have a nice variety of the bat-thingy (hmmm batfig, what do you call it?) and the alien has a purple cape that could be useful for evil wizards. Santa is just nice to habe, but there might be uses for his sack. I am a bit disappointed but not much surprised by the fairy. It kind of looks much too disneylike to me, i even do not like the wings (they do not look good, but thats just my taste). Also just not my cup of tea: the cowgirl, just to cheesy. The rest is just generic, maybe town-collecters like them. Quote
Rogue Angel Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 Attatched to the torso. Divers feet are 2 pc 1x1 plate NOT attached to the torso - unless they are planning a new mold for some reason. The brown Man-bat has separate swiveling arms that are removable. Quote
jonwil Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 NOT attached to the torso - unless they are planning a new mold for some reason. The brown Man-bat has separate swiveling arms that are removable. I think what he was asking was whether the arms are loose in the bag or if they come pre-attached (but still movable) like regular minifig arms. Quote
Itaria No Shintaku Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 NOT attached to the torso - unless they are planning a new mold for some reason. The brown Man-bat has separate swiveling arms that are removable. Well, I IMHO think that what they wanted to know is if they will come in a piece already attached, like other minifigs, it's easier for feeling. And he confirmed that. Then, it's obvious they will be removable. Quote
legoliam Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 The minifig I want from this series is probably the football player Quote

And he confirmed that. Then, it's obvious they will be removable. Yes I wanted to know if the arms are attached to the torso in the bag, or not. Normal arms are attached, but I didn't know what was the case with others. I don't remember the robot's arm in CM1. For me "attached" means that they are on the torso in the bag, but can be removed of course. If they were molded together, the arms wouldn't be "attached" but "part of" the torso I guess. Quote
Rogue Angel Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 They should be attached in the bag, just like a normal torso. For the monster fighters fig, the torso with arms attached was sealed in a small bag but I doubt they will package it that way for the CMF. Quote
Nagyzee Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 Looks like my list was correct! Mo, it wasn't. Sadly I don't see any ancient thespis in there. At least the figure we got instead is also great (especially the collar piece). This series is a bit underwhelming altogether with quite few new molds, several remakes and a few simply boring figures. There are still some gems in there though at least. Quote
ETAV8R Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 I'm still stoked for the evil alien queen. Her brain looks translucent even though she has a pink head underneath. Winner in my book but I'm also a big AC fan. Evil robot is a winner too, there are quite a few good figs here and something for everyone. Quote
Haltiamieli Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 16. Fairy - This has to be the biggest letdown of the CMF line since they started it. While I too hoped that they would use Toth's design, I wasn't really expecting it. I don't think Toth's design really corresponds to the most usual stereotype of fairies (in fact, strictly speaking Toth's design seems to be a wood elf, despite the wings, cf. the labelling of her tiara), so it's not that surprising that the designers decided to channel some Disney Tinkerbell instead. Considering this I don't think the result is that bad (if not great either) except for the cloth skirt, the sort of which I dislike inherently. I do remain hopeful that someday we might get an elven lady with a likeness to Toth's design, sans wings. It's possible. Quote
Lightning Dragon Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 (edited) I was hoping that the fairy would be like the S3 elf, but a female version, sort of like a long hairpiece with the "ears," and with a wand or some sort of elven weapon, a cape, and a dress-piece. The elf was one of the best CMFs ever, so I thought TLG would make another one. The fairy doesn't look horrible, but it does look a little too pink and girly to me. The colors do clash and make her look a little weird I wanted and expected something better. I'm just saying, it could've been awesome, but it is a little disappointing now. As Haltiamieli said, it looks like a "Disney fairy." At least there are some other good figures, but in my opinion, none are as good as the elf or spartan. Maybe the conquistador is almost as good. The diver's helmet material and color makes the entire minifigure seem a little cheap. Edited July 16, 2012 by Lightning Dragon Quote
