WesternOutlaw Posted January 30, 2012 Author Posted January 30, 2012 Does that mean I have to revert back to my 'crashing' entry? Out of madness, TheBrickster updated your entry with your new EB Maersk. Quote
L@go Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 (edited) I'm trying to imagine how the train tracks can shift unexpectedly to end in a driveway :) Oh, it's entirely possible. Here's the recipe. Edited January 30, 2012 by L@go Quote

Legobrandon Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 (edited) Well yeah it's so simple -> Pshh... I've got that all memorized in my head. Easy peasy-lemon squezzy. (does anyone still use that term? lol) Edited January 30, 2012 by Legobrandon Quote

roamingstop Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 Anyone else trying to figure out what the letters represent? F = Force L = initial length A = Area E = extension (under force strain curve) delta T is the change in temperature So it fits copmikes picture pretty well. Quote
kyphur Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 I just wanted to warn everyone who has this set... Sebulba was apprehended a few hours ago and he cracked under interrogation! He admitted that the burning of my Maersk Engine wasn't just a simple retaliation over a lost job, it's part of a much larger plot to eliminate as many of the Engines as possible. At first he was trying to implicate the Hutts but his story just wasn't making sense so the detectives contacted Imperial Security Forces and they provided an Interrogation Droid. After the ID was finished we had the full story: A dark and mysterious figure known only at "The Brickster" had put out a bounty on Maersk Train Engines. He wants them destroyed! The police secured a copy of the Manifesto he broadcast to Bounty Hunters near and far. In it he claimed to be MAD that the value of his Maersk Engines wasn't up to his expectations and blamed it on the popularity of the set. He said the limited edition set must be off the shelves soon so he wanted alreay sold Locomotive destroyed which would in turn increase the value of his own stock! Now that's MADDNESS I tell you.... surrideo Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 Great competition and a good advert for lego as I've just purchased a Maersk train for my brother who does some consultancy work for them. Need not to open it before April when his Birthday is though................ Quote

kyphur Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 After the derail, really heavy equipment was called upon... I love that heavy crane, can we get some more details on it? Quote

Darkdragon Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 Since a couple people asked, here is how I set up the shot. Warning, obsessive photo nerd level of detail ahead :) ... Anyway, this contest was a great idea. I hope there are similar ones in the future :) It put two of my favorite things together. Excellent work. I don't know about you, but when I do a photo and everything is "in-camera", then get accused of "photoshopping" it, that's a total win. It takes a lot of skill to mold the light "on-set" and get what you want out of the camera with enough perfection and detail that you can actually fool people into thinking you spent days on the computer. Then you get to explain how you really did it and it's double-sweet. Anyway, just wanted to say great work (photo and the layout/idea). Quote

Thanks :) It also makes me chuckle when someone says "HDR!" to which I reply "correct exposure!" I've been doing low-light photography for nearly 10 years now, so I've had alot of time to experiment with different lighting techniques. I first started playing around with flashlight painting while photographing the big electron microscopes in our lab... I wanted very dramatic lighting on the instrument columns, with black backgrounds to hide all the clutter and associated equipment. There are many great Lego photographers on Flickr whose work I have been admiring over the past couple months :) I am still acquiring sets and building up my collection before I start on MOCs, but photographing my dioramas as dramatic scenes is a major part of my plan. Edit: as you can see in my avatar, the key elements of my sig-fig are: 1) Camera! 2) Backpack and travel shirt 3) Suitably scenic location 4) Beard and shaggy hair Edited January 31, 2012 by woolie Quote

woolie Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Great contest, everyone! Competition does sharpen the mind :) The next contest should be a MOC; I don't have enough pieces to compete there yet :) Quote
