On his Flickr photoset, BricksOnWheels posted 8 photos and wrote that this is "My first build of 2012, a classic Peterbilt 359. This is a Lego model build in 1:13 scale. I wanted to keep the color scheme simple but efective. I love the dark grey which I started to use last year. I used some new techniques on the chassis and air suspension, and tried to bring the detail to the next level on the engine and drivetrain. Another new detail is the flip bumper on the front, to keep the truck low when the strees are bumpy. The model consist of about 4000 bricks, where some were retrofitted with chrome plating. The wheels are since many years out of Lego production. The ones on this truck have been in my posession since 1984."

"December 2011 saw a very nice anniversary competition from Lugnuts, a group of Lego carbuilders. I entered a 32'Hot Rod, and won 2nd price. Within the price package was Mater from the Cars II movie. My daughters build it before I could even look at the box. I thought it was fun to take a picture of it in 'action'. Thanks Lino and Nathan for the nice contest! Here you can read more about it: http://lugnuts-cars.blogspot.com/2012/01/stuff-dreams-are-made-of-roundup.html ."

What a lucky guy, I'm always looking for new things to do but he can build trucks without getting bored, what a truck lover with a impressive talent  . I have those wheels the truck is huge...

the airsuspension is working?

I was wondering that to. I love all of his trucks! he posts on these forums from time to time so maybe he can enlighten us.

Thnx all for the comments!

About the suspension. I have made real airrides in the past, and to be honest i started of building this one with the plan of mounting a battery box in the sleeper (like with the Optimus Prime truck), and not make a pneumatic airride as it should be, but a mechanical variant, together with working flip bumper. This was pure for the reason that pneumatics will be of a too big influence of the look and detail i want to create. With actuators and small gears you can still create functionality. But i skipped the idea later on, because i have two other builds lying to be finished before the big Modelshow Europe event end of March.

The Hot Rod i made a while ago triggered my thought on this subject too. I will make a fully functional ride sooner or later again.

thanks for the info

Great truck! He must've spend a lot of time to build that Peterbilt!

Extremely good looking!

But the wheels are a tad "small".

Did you consider using beams on tubes as fenders? Sure it would make gaps but you could get the round fenders instead of the square-with-round-corners ones.

I think the wheel size is fine as-is, since one needs some room for the suspension to work up-and-down over bumps. BricksOnWheels is already using one of the largest Lego tires ever made -- the foam-type 3740 "Tire 24 x 43 Technic":

3740.jpg

I held it against the 8110 Unimog U400's 92912 "Tire 94.3 x 38 R" just now in my basement, and the 92912 tire is ~1.5 studs wider and ~1.5 studs greater in diameter than the 3740 tire above:

You are right Dluders. The wheels are scale 1:13, recalculated from real tire dimensions. The rest of the truck is rescaled based on the wheel size, as that is one of the few parts you cannot influence. There is nothing wrong with any of the dimensions, they are converted from chassisdrawings and on target.

I looked at the new Unimog tires, but they don't really look to belong on a lowrider US truck to me.

My bad than, thought it looked like a lot more height from the top of the wheel to the top of the bonnet on the model as compared to the real thing:

Probably the photo angle and colours that play tricks on my mind.

No, it is the angle i think. There are two things deceiving here. First of all this is a standard hood 359, and not the extended exhd one. This looks more compact.

Secondly it has a standard sleeper, and not the higher and longer version i am using on my chassis. Here is a picture of a lowrider 359:

But, nonetheless i like it when people look more sharp into my work and have fundamented comment. Things can always be impoved!

Always loved those American rigs, especially like the one above, customized.

And your Lego version ... really cool. Nice and smooth. Also like the color.

I must say it's one of my favorites because you've build a lot of those cool trucks.

You are bumping an almost 4 year old topic, just to say it's cool. Please only bump old topics when you have useful information to add.

Sorry, I was just looking for some topics related to things like 'trucks' and 'Peterbilt.

I didn't looked at the date actually.

Okay, no worries. Thanks for your reply
