Mark Stafford unfortunately wasn't there, (he was at work) but his girlfriend, Megan Rothrock was. I talked to her about the new Lego Space sets, and she didn't know about the ambassadors' involvement in the designing. However, she did meet a few of the other designers, and I think she saw a few of the sets, because when I asked her if they were any good she told me that 'because the last space line was Life on Mars, they had to build further from that '. hm... 'life on mars' was not the very best theme if you're asking me Quote

NASA-like, maybe she means to say that it is distant future space, where you'd have private individuals rather than organization? That quote has me confounded as to what it could mean.... Quote

Was it solely because of the fierce competition with SW ? or because of its crap (what a glorious understatment here) design ? I guess its because of a combination of those 2 factors (d'oh). I sincerely hope that this new line will depart as far as possible from Life from Mars or Space will have one of the shortest comeback in the history of TLC :-D This new line will suffer from the competition of 2 themes !! The world heavy weight champion SW and the pushy EF !! I know you will tell me that EF is mecha/story oriented and you are right of course !! However, kids and AFOLs will be faced with a monetary choice betwenn all that !! How many parents or AFOLs do buy the entire TLC catalog ? I also think it looked more like spaceport/town than space, so many spacers were not happy with it. The colours were most likely also not the best choice (some had this almost pink-like colour!). i guess we, spacers, prefer the classic colours for our space ships... We simply didn't connect with Life on mars... Still, i'm keeping several sets MISB, so i can just take them in my hands, stare at them from time to time, curse every one who comes near them and put them back in their plastic box afterwards... :-$ I sincerely hope that this new line will depart as far as possible from Life from Mars or Space will have one of the shortest comeback in the history of TLC :-D :-X indeed! :-X This new line will suffer from the competition of 2 themes !! It also has such a monumental history that many non-spacers will buy space sets because of childhood memories... Much will depend on distribution of the sets in the (smaller) shops, though. If the entire theme appears in the shops then people will buy them. After all, many adults and kids are attracted to space toys, it's only a question of availabilty/visibilty. My guess is that it will sell if they launch it at around this time of the year next year... Quote

I actually didn't come out of darkage till LoM was long dead, so I don't own any of them... But I have bought a few LoM Accessory packs that were on clearance a while back... And based on those... it fails because... lame alien stuff ugly printed tiles - only 2 out of 8 or so prints I can actually use wierd color choices red, blue and sandgreen detail bricks?? wierd combo... yeah... the printed tiles, and the aliens(also printed in the same style), too cartoony looking....a big slope brick with a button marked with a giant claw? this is supposed to be the control panel to control the mecha's arm? wtf... On the plus side I got some nice Astronaut helmets out of there.... yeah, based on the parts, and what photos I see... Im going to say that the astronaut aspects arent that bad... but what kills the theme is the ridiculous aliens and their associated stuff... Would have been better if they sold LoM as the human stuff only, and let the UFO theme be the martians, and that says a lot because UFO was horrible! Quote

EF robots vs humans vs aliens. this will be my starcraft lego extreme theme! wohooo.... Quote

The aliens were cool to me, actually, and I loved that the mechs could transform without deconstructing the sub assemblies. I did not like the astronauts shuttle though. Yuck, what a horible design! :-X Of course, with lego being like it is now, a space theme like Life on Mars would definately be a step backward! I have a fair amount hope, though, that TLC will pull off the return to Space nicely, just like they pulled Aquaraiders off great! ;-) Quote

Well, you add a little crack to my heart.... ;-) Weird (alieneted indeed!) colors, unique design.... I love all of those martian sets, they were (together with SW) the main reason for me to end my dark ages. Traditional brick builded mechs with cool transforming features and new parts used in a good way, the very first Lego "manga mechs". Sweet martian MFs and my favorite base station, the 7317 Aero Tube Hangar with these funny and ingenious playable tubes! The best space sets since original classic space sets (918....) IMO. It Quote

Space is pretty much as popular as castle, and Exo-Force is more considered Mecha than Space. Starwars, however, is only a licensed theme, and isn't really considered a "space theme". -l2k- Quote
