Hi guys!

I was wondering if any of you has found any difference in performance between those two pneumatic mini-pumps:

Pneumatic Mini-Pump 6 L ----------------------------------------------------------- Pneumatic Mini-Pump 5,5 L

The left one is the newer version, which was released in the 8110 Unimog set. It's longer by half a measure, which in my mind means it has a bit more displacement volume.

I was wondering whether that additional "umph" in each stroke results in any significant improvement in its performance? Please share your personal experience in the matter. Thanks!

Best regards,

It's all discussed in detail in the TechnicBRICKS TechReview 13 (1/3 of the way down the page). Both pumps have 2-studs-long displacement; the design was changed to allow for mounting on the Unimog. To summarize, "Although the old pump cylinder is capable of a 2L displacement, it doesn't fit within a linear setup over a Technic beam."

Thanks for the information! I saw the review, but didn't pay enough attention to the part of it you mentioned.

there's also this article:

8110 Seeking for answers @ TB

In order to achieve a 2L displacement (double stroke) and optimal pump efficiency, some other arrangements might be used, like a bent liftarm (6-4) or even some old school studmore designs. However such arrangements wouldn't fit properly in the Unimog and would also require more space. This was likely the reason for this re-design as the 2L displacement would be very important to achieve maximum power and enough air supply, for smooth operation of the grabber arm.

The newer pump has about 0,5psi lower pressure.

Did they change the release valve so that it cant handle as much pressure?

The newer pump has about 0,5psi lower pressure.

Where did you hear this? If you found this out for yourself, how many of each pump did you test? 20? 30?

Hello everyone,

Pneumatic Pump is widely used in all type of factories equipped with huge machinery. These machines are bound to make pressure and pneumatic pump makes it possible for them. machines like heavy industrial press & sheet molding presses use the pneumatic technology to function.

Hi Marc,

Welcome to EB.

Not a very good first impression to bump a two year old topic, just to add a copy & pasted description of something we already know.
