Something tells me this isn't Markus' field: IMO he's more into construction machinery. Uwe Wabra is more into trucks, so I'd guess this is a work by Lars Krogh Jensen (who, by the way, also designed the similar-in-spirit 8297).

We'd know if it was wabra. He puts stickers with his name on them on everything! Oh, on Lars' bio

it says, "I am deeply fascinated by helicopters and aircraft." This might mean he is doing the helicopter!

TLG have really eased on the functionality of the flagships. The Unimog and the rock crawler are not that strong in functions (like cranes and arms and stuff), they are more in the drive train and suspension while the flagships of 2009 and 2010 were more into functions (the folding crane arm and the excavator arm). Really what I am trying to say, I am not "very" impressed with the rock crawler, it's just an rc car.

I very much welcome the "change". I would pass on any construction/digger set, this is exactly what I have been wanting.

The unimog has:

realistic 4WD

realistic Live axle suspention with portal axles

inline 4 engine

steering

motorised compressor

PTO's and PPTO's for swapping things round/adding MOC attatchments

crane arm slew

crane arm raise/lower

crane arm bend

crane arm claw open/close

motorised winch

So yeah, it's very strong on functions, more functionality than either of the previous two flagships, and each function is done with much more realism and it's crane arm can actually lift something. 2009's flagship is great, but not a patch on the Unimog.

I do agree tho that the crawler is pretty light on functions and is pretty much just an RC car, but personally, whilst I would have normally ripped the set apart by now in these forums (as is my way with mechanicly unrealitic RC toys cough8043cough), i'm just very happy and grateful to see the servo motor and L-motor i've been asking for. I just hope that they really are the motors i've been asking for (ie servo motor is properly proportional, not just left/middle/right, when used with the right controller and the L-motor has a very fast, low torqe output, like the motors from 8485 control centre 2).

I,m such a jerk. It's just that I miss them construction vehicles and 9398 isn't my "favorite" and now I have to wait till 2013 to get another flagship (if it is a good one).

It's great I got 8466 too so we have the wheels for the crawler but will need gear reduction.

I've just created a MOC using the 8466-wheels and the Unimog parts. It has 2 XL-motors, 1 for each axle and 4-wheel steering. The total gear reduction is 20-28 (for the dif) and then 12-20. Surprisingly it works very well. It makes a crazy and pretty fast monster-truck. And I haven't broken 1 part yet.

Hmmm, €139,99 (the discounted price) equals USD $185.13. The list price of €169,97 equals USD $224.77, which is a few dollars more than Mo_'s original prediction of USD $218.04 on this Eurobricks Topic ("Potential 2H2012 Lego Technic Set Prices -- Budget Woes for All").

I still have official confirmation for 169,99 eur for crawler, so lets hope it stays the same (prices for existing sets have since gone up, so I have bad feeling about this).

Ya.

The seal doesn't really mean that much imo. And a site that has a longer FAQ about their debt collection methods than everything else combined seems really sketchy. In addition their prices for the other technic sets aren't really great.

But their prices are a good indication on how prices for the 2h2012 are going to be on other webshops in Europe.

What about Mr.Toys? Its Australian and the prices seem to match the official prices on the Lego website. Here is the website and 9398 seems to cost $$289.99 AUD.

$289.99 is cheap compared to other flagships in Australia which cost over $300. Seeing as our dollar is almost the same as the US one it is not really fair.
