How well does it work or will it leave strain on motors?

If one wheel out of friction - all torque tends to go to the non-frictioned on-the-air-wheel, but rubber "dont want" to fast rotation central gear, so part of torque goes to wheel-on-the-ground. Of course rubber eats some power of motor at turns and when one wheel on the air, it is middle between opened diff and fully blocked. First is 100% good at turns but 0% effective when one wheel in the air, and second is very bad at turns and 100% effective at bad surface. Friction ring is the middle: balance is only depends on friction power of rubber.

It seems that (among the regular members of this Eurobricks Technic forum), the "lucky few" who have the 9398 set are efferman, Sariel, Blakbird, & Conchas, & Anio....

Here in the scottish highland's we have nothing to drive it on...........:cry_sad:

May I suggest sheep?

I have already swapped differentials for knobs and increased gear reduction in my 9398. Seeing as you continue to discuss the limited slip differentials issue, I guess I'll film how it handles without any differentials whatsoever - it's practically the same, even with PP wheels. The only noticeable difference is that when turning, wheels on the inner side lose some grip.

Because of negative castor?

Over on the Eurobricks Digital Designer Forum, P4trickvH created a Lego Digital Designer (LDD) LXF file (with this LXF file improved upon by Zblj) of the 9398 4x4 Crawler set. He wrote that it has a few

"errors" (mainly parts missing from LDD, noted here).

If one was thinking about RECOLORING their 9398 with a different color scheme, the LDD model is perhaps the easiest way to see how it could be done. :classic:

I dont see why u would change the colours it looks great and nice to see something different rather than all the one colour.

And who wouldn't be? Lol! I have a couple in mind for mine although there are limited options if you want a solid color. It seems like we are always a part or two away from opening up a lot more possibilities. :classic:

Is it possible to swith the first two gears which power the driving? It's going a tad to slow for my taste. If it's possible to make it run faster this one will actually be a nice addittion to the collection.

More speed means less torque , it's plenty fast as we were expecting it to be slower.

Has anyone else got it bar Germans?

Yes, at least Anio (French), Blakbird (American), Conchas (Portuguese), Jetro (Spanish) and Sariel (Polish). They received it from TLG to review it.

I wish it was true. I bought mine at eBay.

Some great news for those at Brickfete, or who happen to live within driving distance of the Sherway Gardens Toronto Lego Store. I was here today and they have the Crawler :classic: , Helicopter, and Tractor. Now I have to decide between the Unimog and Crawler. :cry_sad:

Maybe I ask, if you think the deal was overpriced? And do you know why the seller had the possiblity to sell it off so early(there could be a few quit reason, e.g a tlg employee, or stor that don't care about lego's supposed "official" release day )?

Has anyone else got this model or is everyone waiting impatiently like me :)

My preorder should arrive first week of august, don't want to wait, but also can't justify the additional costs of buying it now vs preorder prices.

It has been available on e german lego store, i could buy some and sell them on ebay if i wanted to right now. Which is probably why that seller offered the sets so overpriced. I think he watned 189 or 199€ for the crawler?

Ya they were on (german) ebay for 199, ever since they were available in the lego stores. However the seller must have gotten them cheaper than retail, because ebay auction costs end up being something like 10% of the selling cost, and that would leave 10-20 euros profit.

Can I ask was is conchas fasinated with driving up that wall in every video and repeatedly turning the crawler upside down? A real test can't be done on a desk!

Also them custom tires look horrid and too narrow, maybe there good functionally but they don't look good or even out of place on the crawler, are they available a bit wider?

Thanks for the video conchas and hopefully u might do an outdoor test with power puller and custom tires :)

@ davidmull: Do a Google search for "RC 1.9 Tires" and look for widths in the 37mm-48mm range. There are plenty of custom tires that will fit on the 9398's wheels, and they are sure to out-perform those hard Lego balloon tires (Power Puller or not). :classic:

Conchas' video shows that the WIDER STANCE provided by "negative offset mounting" of the Lego Power Puller wheels helps keep the 9398 4x4 Crawler from tipping over so easily. The Power Puller Wheel/Tire combination (Lego 22969+32298) weighs (20.56g + 170.00g) = 190.56g total, while the stock 44772+54120 wheel/tire combination that comes with the 9398 set weighs (15.40g + 43.60g) = 59.00g total (according to the Russian Bricker website http://en.Bricker.ru/parts ) -- 322% more weight.
