I have 2 questions, is it easy to put power puller wheels on it?, and does the B model use the same driveline, and steering as the A model?.

The only difference between the A and B model is the top. The chassis is exactly the same

Just bought it this morning. If someone from Switzerland would like to buy it, there is great discount for all lego’s in Migros shops, 30% on all products. So basic price is 200chf, with discount ended up 140 chf (around 110eur). Btw same price for unimog, if someone missed it.

Nice price!

I am picking mine up at Bart Smit this weekend. They have a 10% discount on all Lego (till Oct 28th), so it ends up at 135 euro, which is probably the minimal damage for Dutch buyers. If not, let me know

I am really cheap, even were contemplating to wait for bigger discount :) But since that is highly improbable, decided to buy it now. I'm only uncertain should I take unimog, since I never was fan of pneumatics but maybe unimog could change that. And price of 110eur is quite tempting.

I am not big fan of pneumatics (or the Unimog) either. However, overall it is a nice set with great parts (tires, hubs, etc), so I would definitely recommend getting it for 110 euro.

A bit off topic, sorry for that.

Obviously there are two versions of the crawler. :sceptic:

I just got mine for birthday  and I found out that in the instructions something was modified.

At the end of the axle, that comes from the driving-motors (L) there is one of these mounted on my model 44809.gif instead one of these 6536.gif.

On the cover of my box, the old one is still visible, in the instructions and the part-list inside the instructions the other part is mentioned.

So, what might be the purpose that TLG changed that part?

The funny thing: While building, I was wondering, why TLG was not using the old one! Later I found out, that they obviously were doing that in the beginning.

Regards,

Gerhard

Strange thing indeed. I followed the instructions and I went nuts trying to find the part I needed. First time I actually missed a part. Until I figured out I needed the other part. So the instruction was wrong, but the box art was right.

Or the other way around

Seem like an enhancement to prevent further damage to the grey axle when head on any hard object. Yes, I was confused during building and they actually missed out this part.

Hmmm, I bought one of these, mainly for the motors, and although it is a great model, I think I might sell it. The design and functionality is great, but piece wise there is too many red pieces for my liking. I will try selling, maybe on eBay.

It looks like a safeguard against installing the original part backwards and locking up the drive train, which is impossible to do with the alternate part. I'm living dangerously with the one on the box art, albeit properly installed. :classic:

Good job Paul! I never get to explore the potential of the original shell. After completing my first build, I dismantled the top shell and started to design a new body for the Lego Challenge. 8110 (not modded) put out of sight of a while : )

The early 9398 had the part that the instructions show, this was commonly put in the wrong way, which would lock the axle, and it wouldn't work. Once Lego had found that people had built it wrong, they then made another page in the instructions, specifically to make sure it didn't get built wrong. As they get built in batches, the next batch was obviously changed again, as it will be cheaper to change instructions slightly, and change the part than adding another 4 pages.
