technicfan Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 I have 2 questions, is it easy to put power puller wheels on it?, and does the B model use the same driveline, and steering as the A model?. Quote
Jetro Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 I have 2 questions, is it easy to put power puller wheels on it?, and does the B model use the same driveline, and steering as the A model?. The only difference between the A and B model is the top. The chassis is exactly the same Quote
technicfan Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 Does anyone know if Lego makes the 2 door panels in white?. Quote
JunkstyleGio Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 The no 13 and 14 panels aren't available in white yet. But they will be in march when the Formula car comes out. The no 17 and 18 panels are available in white. Quote
wildboar Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 Just bought it this morning. If someone from Switzerland would like to buy it, there is great discount for all lego’s in Migros shops, 30% on all products. So basic price is 200chf, with discount ended up 140 chf (around 110eur). Btw same price for unimog, if someone missed it. Quote

They have a 10% discount on all Lego (till Oct 28th), so it ends up at 135 euro, which is probably the minimal damage for Dutch buyers. If not, let me know Quote
wildboar Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 I am really cheap, even were contemplating to wait for bigger discount :) But since that is highly improbable, decided to buy it now. I'm only uncertain should I take unimog, since I never was fan of pneumatics but maybe unimog could change that. And price of 110eur is quite tempting. Quote

I am not big fan of pneumatics (or the Unimog) either. However, overall it is a nice set with great parts (tires, hubs, etc), so I would definitely recommend getting it for 110 euro. A bit off topic, sorry for that. Edited October 24, 2012 by Gekke Ted Quote
legomuppet9 Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 I'm not sure whether to get this or the Unimog... I already have RC parts, so I'm just looking for the range of parts... Quote
tripletschiee Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 Obviously there are two versions of the crawler. I just got mine for birthday and I found out that in the instructions something was modified. At the end of the axle, that comes from the driving-motors (L) there is one of these mounted on my model instead one of these . On the cover of my box, the old one is still visible, in the instructions and the part-list inside the instructions the other part is mentioned. So, what might be the purpose that TLG changed that part? The funny thing: While building, I was wondering, why TLG was not using the old one! Later I found out, that they obviously were doing that in the beginning. Regards, Gerhard Quote
Jim Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 (edited) Strange thing indeed. I followed the instructions and I went nuts trying to find the part I needed. First time I actually missed a part. Until I figured out I needed the other part. So the instruction was wrong, but the box art was right. Or the other way around Edited November 27, 2012 by Gekke Ted Quote
camaudio Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 On mine it came with the old part but a sheet to make sure you didnt install it backwards and lock the axle. i guess thats just a better fix. Quote
Gene Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 Seem like an enhancement to prevent further damage to the grey axle when head on any hard object. Yes, I was confused during building and they actually missed out this part. Quote
Brickend Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 How can it be an enhancement when the 5L axle cant secure the newer part in place? Lego would not do that. I am sure that it is an error. Quote
DLuders Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 Maybe it's meant to be some sort of trailer hitch, to be able to tow things. Quote
Paul202 Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 Hmmm, I bought one of these, mainly for the motors, and although it is a great model, I think I might sell it. The design and functionality is great, but piece wise there is too many red pieces for my liking. I will try selling, maybe on eBay. Quote
Technic Gearhead Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 It looks like a safeguard against installing the original part backwards and locking up the drive train, which is impossible to do with the alternate part. I'm living dangerously with the one on the box art, albeit properly installed. Quote
Matt The Tuba Guy Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 I got two 9398's and one of them had one part and the other set had the other part! I got two of them, mainly for the motors (especially the servo motor!), but from different places, so they were obviously made at different times. Quote
Paul B Technic Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 Blog post on some changes I have made to this set. http://mizibunktechnic.blogspot.com.au/2012/12/lego-technic-9398-modification-to-hood.html Quote
Edwin Korstanje Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 (edited) Great that you made the opening hood on 9398 Edited December 24, 2012 by VFracingteam Quote
Gene Posted December 25, 2012 Posted December 25, 2012 Good job Paul! I never get to explore the potential of the original shell. After completing my first build, I dismantled the top shell and started to design a new body for the Lego Challenge. 8110 (not modded) put out of sight of a while : ) Quote
Paul B Technic Posted December 25, 2012 Posted December 25, 2012 Thanks all for the feedback, I am quite happy with how it turned out. I have also made a video of it climbing over some boxes. http://mizibunktechnic.blogspot.com.au/2012/12/video-of-my-lego-technic-9398-4x4.html Quote
technicfan Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 Here is a pic of my crawler, let me know what you think: Quote
Robert M Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 The early 9398 had the part that the instructions show, this was commonly put in the wrong way, which would lock the axle, and it wouldn't work. Once Lego had found that people had built it wrong, they then made another page in the instructions, specifically to make sure it didn't get built wrong. As they get built in batches, the next batch was obviously changed again, as it will be cheaper to change instructions slightly, and change the part than adding another 4 pages. Quote
