Though I don't have much use for that piece it's still great that LEGO is keeping it and the EN drivers available. Now if we can just get a proper steam train set again.

Amen! Following TLG's logic though, after having given us a steamer and a diesel hauler, I would guess it's time for an... electric exclusive? Not big on electric trains myself - unless it's a tram, in which case I'd be over the moon.

Reimagine of the Crocodile would be great - electric and using the big wheels - but I guess that would be too expensive.... but some of the decent electric shunting trains could be a good candidate on the rumour mill.

Hi I'm new to lego Trains and I just picked up the Ghost train and I'm looking for a way to get it motorized so it can run on an oval train track. Does anyone know a good way to go about doing this? Should I buy a train set that already comes with a motor and track? or is it easier to just buy the track and motor parts separately?

Thanks for your help in advance

Welcome to Eurobricks!

The train carriages don't use normal train wheels and would need to be replaced. Then motor and then track. The cheapest option is probably the 7938 red white train which comes with many bits, but you will still need to modify the model somewhat. The trainheads are probably not going to buy it until later this year

Thanks for the info. The 7938 looks like it should to be a good starting point with the motor and track, but I wish it didn't use so many batteries. Do they have any train motors that run off of an outlet power source?

I was also thinking about picking up the Toy Story Western Train set for extra parts to make the Ghost Train Rail ready.

The 12V and 9V 'mains powered' systems have long since stopped (fortunately / Unfortunately) and new items are only possible with the PF system. Hence batteries. The advantage of the PF motor blocks is they take technic axles, and hence the larger wheels of the ghost train.

Actually since you have the model - how many large train wheels come 4+2 (where 2 dont have rims?).

Anyhow I digress. If you can afford the rechargable battery solution from Lego S@H direct - then it will last easily 3 hours continuous pulling. Even a PP3 9V battery will supply modern PF motors with about 2 hours continuous charge. You could also use LiPO batteries in the normal case (from the 7938 set). However... just be warned - that once you start, you wont stop.

If you need a source of the 9V solutions then Bricklink or Ebay are your best bet - but it will become expensive.

Edit: The Toy Story train whilst it contains useful wheels, has no track or motorised elements.

Im no fan of fantasy and or hero lego like I was when I played with em back when I was 10 (now 23)...But! your bricktober transporter and the Wild west theme train stuff is really neat!!!! thanks for sharing

I figured sooner or later, as speculation about the new Monster Fighters theme continues, someone would bring up the Ghost Train. This is right up my alley as I've always wanted to see LEGO offer a Ghost Train. Unfortunaly, it reminds me a bit of the old Twisted Time Train for the kiddies. It does looks a whole lot better and I like the darker overtone. There is always the balance between the amount of play and appeal for the kiddies with cost and quality design that we AFOL are interested in seeing. It definitely is a kiddie train, but that doesn't make it bad. It certainly is not the Emerald Night but it's fun and the kids will probably love it. I can see a lot of modification potential and for a spooky village scene, this would probably make a fantastic little train.

My humble attempt to make a fun Ghost Train a few years back:

I don't usually get worked up about fantasy themes but... must... resist...

My thoughts exactly.
