Badsneaker Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 (edited) When I 1st saw pics of the TH Jamie did back in 2007, I have always wanted to build one. I started this back in December before we heard the latest modular was going to be a large Town Hall. I was a little worried LEGO would do this and was sort of relieved to see it ended up being totally different. As I posted earlier I did buy the instructions off the internet but after looking through them realized they were not designed the way Jamie actually built his so I scrapped them and mainly used pics from Brickshelf for reference. I'm not real good with interiors and decided this would be a County Courthouse. In hindsight it probably would have been better built on (4) 32x32 green plates with some greenery on either side of the building and full windows on the sides. I grabbed the 1891 logo from the new Town Hall. There are lots of obvious differences. I did the columns in white and I designed my own windows due to cost of the garage pieces used on the original. I also used the US flag design from the Fire Brigade, only slightly larger. Overall I would have to say this is the hardest, most complex building I have made. The columns were pretty difficult to figure with lots of jumper plates at the bottom and where they connect to the roof at the top. Well here are some pics. I'm hoping to post some more pics with other buildings for height comparison. For now I only have this one: Hope everyone enjoys, comments and criticism always welcome! Follows Closely Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 Looks like a nice build. I don't care for the front doors. The pillars are great, care to share a shot of how you built them? Quote

I don't have an actual pic of that part of the build but they are done as shown on the LEGO website under Building Tips I think. Jamie shows how its done there. The only difference is the rear of the colums you have to use either 1x1 round bricks or 1x1 bricks in order to support the 8 wide arches which are positioned 2 columns up. Quote
L@go Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 Lovely. Makes you wonder what would have happened if Lego had decided to go all the way with the Town Hall :) - it's huge! Do you have any idea how many bricks you've used? Quote
sonicstarlight Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 Great interpretation of the old Town Hall. I was also thrilled to see you put in full interiors, something I never saw pictures of with Jamie's model. Really well done. Quote

I hate doing interiors, I wish I had the patience to really take the time on them. Quote

But how on earth did you manage that? My modular bank has got more than 3000 pieces in it, and that's got a 32x32 footprint. This is much bigger... Quote
JackJonespaw Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 Very nice. I would change the doors to only brown. Quote

I placed over 30 orders on Brickilink and some of them were for other projects so I'm only guesstimating. Quote
LEGO Guy Bri Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 Fantastic building 'Badsneaker'! This is impressively large and very detailed like your other works. Great job Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 Great architecture and beautiful MOC! This town hall remember me the movie "back to the future"! Quote
Freddie Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 It's a fascinating building - that's for sure. I've been trying to build it myself, and find the columns to be somewhat frustrating - it's an unusual technique that's been used, and the placement is whacky, to say the least. But I bet it's a satisfying build, once it's done! Quote
HighFlyer Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 Utterly awe-inspiring work, absoultely brilliant! Quote
Locutis Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 Wow, that certainly is incredible! You've captured Jamie's building very well, and even applied some of your own touches. Very well done. Locutis Quote

But I bet it's a satisfying build, once it's done! The columns were definitely the hardest part of the build. Lots of trial and error once I got to the top where the roof meets the pillars. Because of the 3 wide base at the bottom of the columns, nothing lined up at the top so many jumper plates had to be used. Probably the most satisfying build I've done. Quote
Captain Green Hair Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 Wow, really great building! The colours and small detail are beautiful! I wish you would elaborate on the interior a bit, I.E. telling what is what. Since you took the time to make one, it is a shame we have to guess what it is IMO. Can somebody point me a link of Jamie's model? I haven't seen it I think... Thanks! Quote

The interior is basically a typical courthouse with judges bench, stenographers desk, and some seats for the spectators. There is a small bathroom at the back end of the hallway. The 2nd floor does not have much other than the balcony overlooking the court. Quote

scottwb2010 Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 Great adaptation Badsneaker of Jamie's Town Hall. I like the way you have done the windows. It fits and look realy good, plus it works out cheaper and easier than using the garage doors. I still think this is better than the new Modular Town Hall. Well done. Quote

I agree I like this version better than the official one. I think I may get the new one when it comes out, build it and place it side by side and maybe we can have a poll on it. Quote

I too got these instructions before we all realised that the person selling them was not the original builder so felt guilty. Quote
